How you guys handle topspin high and deep the FH corner

High ball to the corner of FH side, after you get to it, it is usually head or above head height running away from you because of the topspin and pace. Will never be fast enough to get complete behind the ball. I usually just hit a topspin shot back to the middle (high %) or deep x-cross (lower %) or higher to lob if oppnent comes to the net. So basically I hit defensively. I have seen people go all out and hit flat but it is a lower % all or nothing shot.

How you guys handle this?

I hit it hard back with heavy topspin and usually pretty high net clearance. Just keep an eye open for them sneaking to the net and if so hit a strong dipping topspin that barely goes over the net.
 
I'd run towards the shot, take it on the rise (at a higher height than I'm usually comfortable with) and well in front for a sharp cross courter.

Like what you stated, you are basically hitting defensively. If you are already on defense mode, your first priority should be to keep the ball in play without hitting a sitter your opponent can easily put away. To this point, it doesn't matter what shot you hit as long as you get the result you want.
 
if you can get to it in enough time and its like around chest height, I really like to flatten it out and go straight down the line.

Other than that you don't have many choices usually a slower higher ball cross court to give you some time
 
Thanks guys. I was just wonder if there are other ways to handle this. I basically hit open stance and reverse FH (because it is usually beside me), probably similiar to what ZPTennis does. Now I think about it, I could probably flatten it out a little more to control the placement better, but if I hit shallow and flat, I might be in trouble. Instead of shallow but heavy, which sometimes it happens with the running open stance reverse FH.
 
usually i switch to continental and snap my wrist, the ball goes either crosscourt or down the line with enuff pace and net clearance to land past service line, but its easy for the other guy to return it, so i sometimes go for the lob
 
I try to hit a loopy and heavy topspin forehand to his backhand. He gives you topspin, you give him heavy kicking topspin too. Personally, I would hit heavy topspin to his backhand and take the net.
 
I usually try to hit a heavy topspin shot deep as I can to my opponents backhand to buy myself a little time to get back on the offensive. If I can't get behind the ball, I'll go for a forehand slice aka the squash shot to keep the point alive and scrabble like hell to get better court position.
 
Reverse forehand in the air. I usually try and direct it deep crosscourt, but sometimes I flatten it out down the line if he's coming in or I'm on that day.
 
I usually slice it back (doesn't always work cause I don't have the slice forehand down yet especially with the new racket) or hit it back with even more top spin but slower.
 
high topspin to my forehand? I pray for those. Someone hits to my forehand its pretty much over. I take it on the rise and i drive it down the line to BH with heavy pace and regular topspin, or crosscourt to a leftie.

If i am scrambling and its high topspin depending what position i am in, if i am just a little late, i'll usually drive it crosscourt with pace. If i am scambling for my life, i'll defensive lob to give me time to get back.
 
Defense

I'm thinking the shot you describe chasing down is because you are trying to recover from a backhand you hit from the other corner. That is, I don't think a loopy topspin would cause you to not get there from the middle of the court. That said, you are out of position. Your choices are (1) go for an offensive shot to force a weak return, or, (2) play defense.

You have said you've been opting for number 2. That is the smart move.
 
The problem with going down the line to the guys backhand with the shot mucat described (heavy deep topspin into your forehand corner) is that unless you take a big chance and go for a winner or near winner down the line, a good player will have the whole court open to hit his backhand crosscourt for a winner on you.
 
I have hit a few of those FH DTL winners, but the % is against me by a huge margin. I don't know how, but I was hoping someone here can hit a flat sharp x-cross shot. One more thing, when hitting this semi-running FH, it is impossible to use the lower body at all, also it is difficult to use full shoulder rotation, even if I hit as hard as I can, the ball sometimes is kind of shallow (service line or a little further down), although with good topspin, a good player will probably comes to the net and finish me off, unless I hit a lob of course, but even a lob is a difficult shot to hit accurately in this situation, however, it really depends on my opponents pattern.
 
LOL, why makes this harder than it has to be? Just hit the ball on the rise. If you get there late, lob it. Getting there EARLIER is the key. Your poor selection of shot or their strength in executing this shot well should be changed or neutralized. If they don't hit inside out often, just camp there when you expect that shot.
 
LOB. Hit up on the ball to give yourself time to get back into neutral position. Once the opponent has you on the run like this- trying to attack him is a pretty dumb idea. Admit that you are on the defensive at this point and play a defensive shot. Wait for a weaker ball to attack.

this happens to me on good returns kinda where I get caught to far foward after I serve and am caught moving backwards on a deep return. I need to get my feet of the ground to turn my body and hit.

in your position I would definitely just hit high topspin to the forehand, either that or like I said before sometimes I like to flatten it out and go for the winner down the line.
 
Reverse forehand to the short angle crosscourt or down the line.. high ball opens up the angle to clear the net for it. Or Lob.
 
if you are not in the position, you don't have many choices.

if you are in the position, you can try go for cross court and deep. u have more margin this way.

Thats a good question, way too high, around shoulder level spinning away from the court... I'm still working on flatting my stroke out a bit and still being able to produce the angle but I'm just not good enough to do it consistently. This isn't a shot that I would take against an opponent who is extremely quick to the forehand side (right-hander) from the center of the baseline. Otherwise if they are on the backhand side of the court it usually produces a easy volley or a winner. I almost always approach the net when I take this shot.

I have the same problem, I found too high going sharp xcourt is bad idea. In theory, it was a high ball, like you said, I should be able to use the height to create sharp angle xcourt hitting down, but with the body running the other way and the ball trying to run away from you, it is a difficult shot to hit.
 
I just started doing this so it seems to be working pretty good. I just whip my racket straight up for heavy topspin, and aim for the middle. I used to hit it more flat, but that never worked too well for me. Now I don't fear high balls to my fh.

Yes, I hit reverse FH as hard as I can, it usually lands at the middle (I think I just instinctly rally it back to the middle like practice...). It lands around the service line but it bounces quite high. I think the high topspin reply gives me time to move back into position but I would like it to land deeper consistently. However, it is not causing too much problem so far.
