How'd you meet your significant other?

So, how did you meet your SO?

I met mine through OKCupid.com. We met in person two or so weeks later, after she came back to school for the semester.

I met several women through OKCupid previously, but in my experience, most were only looking for flings. My SO was too, at first, but after some time, we got rather serious. We've been together for eight months now and live together.

I can honestly say I really like the idea of online dating. I think it's a much more productive use of my time than going to 'speed dating' events my school organizes, or through friends or "friends", or just being out in public. Gives you more control, in my opinion.

I changed houses. She greeted me upon arrival, love in her eyes , tail wagging ... a most adorable and loving stray dog.

our eyes met as i was picking the bill from her garter, using my teeth. After the inevitable private discussion in the dark room, we havent looked back since. We spend all our time together. Except for weekends 9pm-3am when she is performing.

First day of class in Uni walked up to her after it was over and asked "Hey what was your name again?"

House Party, spent the whole night talking music...didn't know until the first date that she played college ball too. Only thing on our TV for the past week is the USO.

Co-ed softball team. She played right field and I was rover. She couldn't catch a cold so I spent a lot of time covering for her, lol. From there it was a 'hit'.

I was just married 3 months ago. Met my SO on a tennis court, and we ended up having a tennis theme wedding, right on the courts that we met on. Suresh started a thread about my BIG DAY:

Of course, this wouldn't be TT if someone didn't photoshop one of the wedding photos posted :)

Met her working in the campus observatory at NAU. She was still interested after the first insult, so I kept after her. Turns out she's into cavemen, so I was good to go.

That is kind of unfair. You live in a condo next to the tennis club, and she plays there. How could you NOT meet?

Glad to hear that OKC has worked out for you! I've been on there for a quite a while & I've been on quite a few dates, but so far nothing has gone beyond a second date. I have 2 friends that both met girls that they've been seeing for over a year in both cases, so I know that it works out well for some people. I think that online dating is a good way of screening a person & seeing whether or not they could be a good match, but you can't tell if there's going to be any kind of spark. It's still nice to have a way of meeting girls for going on regular dates, which gets tougher once you're out of school.

I don't have a SO but my best friend met his wife through an on-line dating service. I remember he went on a few dates with other women before blowing off one date to be with his now wife when she called for a second date. :D

Hey -

Keep trying! Girls get A LOT more messages than guys; it's the nature of online dating. The best thing, other than having a decent profile (and I'm positive answering those questions helped me in my case) was to be persistent. Girls have told me they can be overloaded with guys sending them messages.

I am the first one to admit I casted a very wide net. I would take whatever first date I could, and go from there. Was dating several people at the same time at the time my girlfriend came along. After the first date, I knew I wanted to pursue a relationship with her, so we did.

(She didn't respond to my first email. She did respond to my IM though and we began talking then.)

In sum, be persistent. I know how difficult it is to meet people (I'm extremely busy with my schooling: I rarely meet people outside of my program.) It took me about five months, until I met my girlfriend.

We have mutual friends, but she's bi and was actually looking to meet women at the time we first met. I managed to convince her to stick with men :)

really?! lol, so did she?

Yeah, really. We made a date to play the next morning. Neither thought the other was going to show up as we were both very hung over and it was cold and windy. Well we actually did play, and i ended up out in front at the end of the match. She was good though, playing for a community college team at the time. Great having a wife that loves tennis too!!

She worked for the same company as me at the time, although in different departments.

One day I saw her in the restaurant, and she'd left her purse in her office. I lent her £1 for a bottle of water.

Obviously my generosity made me irresistible, although I'm still annoyed that we've now been married for nearly 5 years and she's still not paid me my £1 back.

;-)
