Huge news about Federer's racket!!!

Ty for the info

I had 5 .95s and had to place some lead at 12 to get some confidence hitting back heavy balls, i got 3 .90 and they are perfectly weighted for me

Im no customization wizard but i guess if i try these new .95 with this new design ill have to again place some lead at 12 :)

When this market hits the market there will probably be lots of posts with guys comparing customized setups and such. You don't have to be a wizard these days - you just have to know the original specs, especially the swingweight, of your frame. If you know that and have a ruler and some lead tape you can use TW's customization engine to match it to your favorite racquet, or whatever you like. Once you get the racquet-geek ball rolling customization is really easy.

Actually I think the new 95 is 16x18 where the current BLX90 is 16x19 so that's actually a slightly more open pattern over a larger head size.
Nope, the new PS BLX 95 is 16x19, just like the 90. :)

Here is the photo to reinforce those specifications. This is taken from the Wilson catalog for 2012.

Curious; Is the mold the same? Or like the last 95 Pro Staffs, where the frame is flat at the throat/head connection?

The 90 appears the same mold as the current K/BLX line, but that 'Juice' looks dead-flat, so I'm wondering if the 95 might be from the old ProStaff mold?

I don't know. This would have to be one he!! of a frame to make me leave the BLX 90. Hitting the best ball of my life right now with this frame.
No, can't be the same mold since the old PS 6.0 95 Original was 20mm in beam width and this new PS BLX 95 is 18mm.

Loving the ps 100. Throw some lead in the handle, get it up to about 11.1/11.2 oz strung with a nice headlight balance and you have a modern game spin machine. You guys know what I'm talking about.

Did the one you got to fondle have 18mm beam or wider?

That's a very good question. I find it very hard to tell these things without direct basis for comparison but if I had to guess I would say wider, probably about 20mm or even slightly more.

That said given the 289g weight listed on the specs on the throat, the balance point and 16*18 pattern I'm honestly beginning to think this might have been the 100' headsize that I had in my hands though I wouldn't have believed it bigger than 95 visually. Fit very close to my Prestiges (a Head 98 so a 95 really) when placed one over the other.

Wilson....now with Amplifeel

LMAO....gimme a break. I can just see racquet ads coming up....

But wait....there's more.....

TennisChannel - Roger, can we do a bag chedk?

Roger Federer - Why sure, these are my racquets. Not only do they give me more power and more control, but they have AMPLIFEEL.

TennisChannel - What does Amplifeel do for you?

Roger Federer - Well, it really amplifies the feel of the frame. I can actually feel individual strands of felt on the ball, so I get more feedback.

OK, I give...Amplifeel.....sheesh ;)

Can someone please provide an objective reason why a "box beam" frame is so desirable?

I honestly believe the feel is different on impact. It's just how it flexes.

I also believe from an engineering standpoint that it allows you to make the beam thinner while retaining the stiffness but I have no evidence for this, merely a comment from an engineer friend of mine a while back. I wonder if it's true.

While I don't necessarily worship the box beam as I feel some do I do tend to prefer it. It's just one element of a frame (for example the PSC6.1 was amazing without it) but overall I think it's a good one from what I've tried.

So they have abandoned the PWS? It was one of the best features of the Wilson racquets. Can anyone confirm that they have dropped the PWS on the PS BLX 90 and 95?

Nice paint job. Looks like a Head Extreme Pro. What happened to classic simple paintjobs?

PWS is still there .. see:

15-0- Was the information you posted listed on Wilson's facebook site? If not, do you have any other additional information? Thanks

The image was posted in this thread by another user several pages back. The image has now gone from Wilsons Facebook page but it seems legit. Wilson buttcap, Wilson pro overgrip, no pws, seems like Jankovics new stick to me?

so...i thought the Prostaff 6.0 was going to come in in the Fall. Is that a no go now?

It's the only frame left that doesn't have Federer's signature on it. I refuse to buy anything with that d-bag's signature.

TW started selling the Pro Staff 85 again in August. They are currently sold out.

There are hundreds of racquets on the market that don't have Federer's signature on them. Why don't you buy one of those? Because if you buy any racquet that Federer uses or has used, people are just going to view you as a Federer wannabe anyway. Is that what you really want?

TW is getting more in on October 24:

Hey, at least the PS85 has enough of a player heritage that doesn't include Federer.

The swingweight of the 95 will be the deal breaker for me. Hopefully its around 325 so that it's still stable since the beam is so thin.

its pretty cool that as i get better swingweight of the racket really begin to matter a lot. even more than headsize i think.....

I agree. But still, they should have made it 15-20 grams heavier. As it seems not that headlight, adding a leather grip might help. Hope so too the SW is not too low. Until then, I stick with my kblade tours, I am lucky to have one that is on the heavy side. 330 unstrung, very sweet..

I actually hope its fairly stiff (65-67ish). I tried the Dunlop 4D 200 16x19 which was pretty similar (330g, 95" head, 20mm, sort of box-beam)- nice feel but zero punch unless you leaded the crap out of it.

So... do people think the racket Federer used in the first set in his Davis Cup match is the same as the BLX PS 6.1 95, or the 93 Dimitrov allegedly uses?

That one pic looked like a 95 to me, even considering the camera angle. It was clear enough to judge the ball size relative to the head, and I think it was the 95.

I don't believe there is a 93. I think Dimitrov uses the 90.

Drakulie's confirmed that Dimitrov uses a bigger racket (see quote below), only thing that we don't know is whether it's a 93 or 95. Seeing as how it indeed still looks like a 90, it's probably a 93 because the difference is hard to spot.
That would make it a frame that's not in retail though. So did Fed try out this one or the 95? (It would make much more sense if Dimitrov's is a 95 as well of course...)

A friend of mine strung his frame and actually had to replace the grommets. When he tried putting the grommets of a 90 on the frame, they did not fit. (too short). It is either a 93 or 95.

I just saw the BLX AmpliFeel Prostaff 90, 95 & 100 yesterday. They all look great, 95 & 100 DO NOT have Fed's sig on them. I just might switch to the ProStaff 95

Hey fms,

Thanks for the post man - I did not know that. Dmitrov's racket looks closer to the 90 than the Davis Cup 1st set pics we are referring to. I thought those were noticeably different than the 90. Just my intuition based on the pics as presented. :-)

I reckon Fed's using his time off during the Asian swing to play test his new 95' frame !!!

not likely. I heard the new Federer model for 2012 is actually 90 square inch like his old frame. but i have heard that he was testing out the 92 or 93 sq inche frame. Not sure what happened to those. I don't think there is any Patent infraction here but Wilson was hesitant to go into this topic.
I think Roger is still testing out the 92 sq inche racket but not sure how that playtest is going. Everything right now is top secret as always with these matters..:???:
