In WTT, it's on the TTC right now
it's is an upmost disgrace for Shapranova to play with the greatest ugly malbehavior in the tennis history. NO children allowed !!!
hahaha. i got to see that. i could not imagine him loosing his cool against sharapova! hope he wins, for his sake.
Masha is gonna win....for sure
Money on Sharapova.
NO WAY does shriekapova beat the Mac I recently witnessed dismantle Courier on the Seniors circuit. He just has way too much game not to mention a serve that most of the top men players would have plenty of trouble handling.
I'll take your money, and even give you odds
so who is winning?
maria never had to deal with top notch S&Vers...she's gonna get creamed if Johnny was serious.
I'd expect Sharapova to win. She's much younger, trains daily, and has a Soviet drill seargent for a father.
....LOL! You Cannot Be Serious! No way in hell is she going to beat Johnny Mac. I saw Johnny Mac play Mardy fish a year ago for WTT and it was a close match with Mardy winning the last point. Johnny Mac could beat any of the top women any day of the week.
Her serve was clocked as being faster than his at a WTT event I saw on tv, but something about mac just makes me want to think that he'd win.
who won the match?
They did not play each other in singles. They played against each other in doubles and she did hit a lot of winners past him.
I saw the doubles match, I thought you were referring to a singles match they had or something.
so who won or is it not over yet?
I viewed that match on YouTube some time ago.
He was killing her on the return of serve, and she couldn't return his serve. As expected. I can't believe she actually tried to beat him at net.
It was doubles...and Mac made pretty much everyone else look bad - Including Sharpy and the great doubles player and USC guy Rick Leach. Leach was playing with one of the best and most powerful women's players in the game today and Mac with some girl (can't really remember - Ashley Harkleroad maybe)...Guess who won? Mac's not thought of as one of the best if not the best doubles player ever for nothing.
And if it was singles between John and Maria...I mean please. Nothing against Maria - I actually like her and she hits a very nice ball - but let's get serious.
Haha Mcenroe loses to hawkeye at the end of the first video. Certainly shuts him up. Now if only they had that technology back when he was on the tour.
Well if you saw the rest of the match - you would see that he was right three or four more times all of the rest of the challenges. Having been courtside many, many times at matches over the years - Mac was usually right about the calls. He has a great eye.
And we've seen Fed argue with Hawkeye, so I'm sure John would've as well.
"WTF McEnroe playing Sharapova"
This title makes me think they have some kinda physical relationship rather than tennis...
It was really funny watching Sharapova trying to out volley McEnroe. He took her to school bigtime.
not serena or venus
Surprisingly, most players on the tour at that time agreed that McEnroe was probably correct about 95% of the time on bad line calls. His eyes were amazing. That is why he could volley so well. Plus, McEnroe was correct 4 of 5 times in the match you are talking about.
Luke Jensen is one of the best tennis commentators. Loved his commentating in the Sampras vs Kuerten match in Miami 2000.
He can hang with top 100 men what makes you think he couldn't beat them? Because they hit too hard
Interestingly Roddick was asked this in an interview before wimby. And he said Mac easily.
Yes he could. I would bet anything on that. I have seen both Williams play and McEnroe play. He would win hands down. Fairly easily too.
I know this is a ridiculous question but.... If Mac were to compete in the WTA what rank would he be?
Has there been any 'Battle of the Sexes' besides Bobby Riggs vs Billie Jean King?
Yes. Bobby Riggs and Margaret Court.
Erm, the riggs and king match isn't really that serious. He only got one serve I think, and was way way past his prime.
Tilden played a match too against a top female and he beat the crap out of her, didn't he?
I think that we don't need to have a battle of the sexes because we know the outcome. Sorta like flipping a coin with two heads on it.
This is interesting. From Wikipedia:
Robert Larimore ("Bobby") Riggs (February 25, 1918 – October 25, 1995) was a 1930s–40s tennis player who was the World No. 1 or the co-World No. 1 player for three years, first as an amateur in 1941, then as a professional in 1946 and 1947. It is quite possible that he was also, unofficially, the best player in 1945 as well.
A master promoter of himself and the game, Riggs saw an opportunity in 1973 to make money and to elevate the popularity of a sport he loved. Although 55 years old, he deliberately played the male chauvinist card and came out of retirement to challenge one of the world's greatest female players to a match, claiming that the female game was inferior and that a top female player could not beat him even at the age of 55. The cagey Riggs challenged Margaret Court, 30 years old and the top female player in the world. In their May 13, 1973, Mother's Day match in Ramona, California, Riggs used his drop shots and lobs to keep an unprepared Court off balance. His easy 6–2, 6–1 victory landed Riggs on the cover of both Sports Illustrated and Time magazine.
In 1973, Riggs challenged Billie Jean King to a match, which was eventually played on September 20 of that year. Riggs lost the match which was promoted as The Battle of the Sexes 6–4, 6–3, 6–3.
The Riggs vs King match was normal rules. From Wikipedia:
