Hurkacz Racquet

It is definitely a Yonex Vcore Pro (you can see the unique throat design in close up photos on Getty) in 16x19 string pattern.

Heard rumours it is 95d in 16x19 pattern . Looks like the vcore pro to me as well if you ask me ;)
95D had very unique throat shape which is not present in Hurkacz racquet. Considering he used Prestige line before, I'm 100% sure it is VCore Pro.

last year he was already playing with Yonex, wasn't he?
it's the stencil and PJ missing this year

What other racquets besides the prestige does a VCORE Pro play like? I’ve only ever dabbled with the EZONEs.

Its kinda a combination of prestige and ezone ;) angell tc97 18x20 felt and played similar to me but vcore is more forgiving and angell has better feel/more connected to the ball ;) btw comparing vcore hd.

Yonex VCORE Pro 97, reported from most sites as Hubert Hurkacz's racquet.
He just won, before ~30 minutes, the 2021 Miami 1000 tournamet with this racket :)

The head racquets he was using before yonex were super heavy and very head light. I dont remember the exact specs. 305mm max , 330 g minimum ! (unstrung)

Sorta figured Hurkacz was still playing with the previous gen Vcore Pro, as that's the version (or at least the PJ) he had when he switched to Yonex. Whatever it is, seems to be working for him!

You’re the one saying he is using the 95d above??

I saw the racquet on other auction site. Here its more head heavy as i remembered so maybe there was some weight removed from the handle? Very unlikely though as pros use silicone (or maybe leather was removed?)

Yeah I heard he is using 95d in a 16x19 string pattern but I have no idea if its true. People sometimes try to seek something special too much. Maybe its just a customized vcore pro...

Believe it or not but there are people on this forum that have friends and acquaintances in all sorts of places.
Do you have more general info about Yonex’s pro stocks? Do they offer the breadth of layup options that Head seems to or are they closer to Tecnifibre and Babolat that advertise their pros as using primarily older retail offerings?

Depending on the status of the player Yonex can offer a plethora of layups and molds (including ones not released to the public - IIRC Hewitt and Ivanovic sometime in their careers used molds different from retail).

That blue vcp is super good. Honestly find the green a slight downgrade except that the new HD (320) stick was introduced, which is an instant classic.

Yonex is very reluctant to alter any offerings to pros vs retail. Maybe Hewitt or Ivanovic (world #1s) got some Frankenstein stick, but not anything else.

This is not true regarding retail and Yonex. PJ is part of the business. Yonex needs to sell latest and greatest, pros like or grew up with something else, yonex will paint it to look like the latest and greatest and the world turns. On top of my head Stan, Kyrgios, Tiafoe, Hewitt, Ancic, Ivanovic, All current DR 98 players all use PJ. It would be easier to number who doesn't...

oh, I see, the ever popular "I know a person that heard about the person that talked to a person that claimed to have met the person that said so" argument.... (Disclaimer: Yonex does do paint jobs, but I do not consider PJ alone to be a racket that is different from a retail one. Others may feel differently - and that's perfectly cool)

I think he ment offer a different mold than existing (or obsolete) retail models.
Iirc, Yonex made Hewitt his own custom mold at one time, that was different than any other retail (or other) molds.
Yonex seems to be pretty consistent in offering current and previous molds to their sponsored athletes, with different layups I suppose.

Yeah, if they're only painting old retail sticks, that's like Babolat. They're prostocks, but different from the custom layups Automatix was referencing (in my own view of things, at least).

So I hear! I didn't love the green 310 (I too preferred the HD), but always wished I'd had the chance to try the blue.

After Hewitt went to Yonex and settled on a mould, he was eventually given many subtle variations in lay up and consequently flex and flex locations to choose from, similar to a pro golfer experimenting with shafts.

This photo from Dubai I can almost read the throat sticker

Looks to be leather under tourna. He was playing black strings last year in the USO series.

VCore 97's don't like higher tensions, I was surprised. A hybrid and a lower tension seems exactly what any VCore 97 would like. I also strung them at 23, and was really surprised how already at 24 they wouldn't feel OK, kind of stiff in the hoop. Normally a 97 sq in racquet I will play at 26/25 or sometimes 25/24 depends on the strings etc. RF97A with Hawk Touch I strung at 27/26 regularly, so 23kg for VCore 97 330g was loose for me. I remember noticing that clearly, and then months later snooping through these pages and finding that many people said the same thing about them.

Mains seem Luxilon ALU Power or Adrenaline in Ice Blue colour in 1.25, crosses look like a multi in 1.30 or maybe even 1.35, it doesn't seem gut to me. Maybe Yonex Rexis, but I don't know that string at all. Tension seems 23.50 / 23.50

As per yonex website, he uses poly tour strike. Was using a full bed of black strike, now appears to be using Grey coloured strike in the mains. The cross is now up for debate, could be Rexis/multi as per above posts or might be gut. Happy to be proven wrong, but I doubt he moved away from yonex string. May even be in his contract.
Quite a few yonex pros use Strike. Herbert with the same stick also uses a strike hybrid. He uses gut in the mains, strike in the cross, was using the gut in the cross for many years previously.
On strings, there seemed to better access to tournament string logs, now they don’t seem to get posted or published anywhere? Did stringers get in trouble for publishing them?
