Hybrid Multi/Poly

I've been looking at the Tecnifibre X-One Biphase string and found that it is packed with a lot of power but not that much control or spin, so I'm considering stringing it with the Luxilon Alu Power. I also looked at Wilson NXT Control and would like to know the best of the three options (or anything else you may suggest):
X-1 Biphase mains, Alu Power cross; Alu Power Mains, X-1 Biphase cross; or full Wilson NXT Control.

I would only like to restring around 3-4 times a year and don't frequently break strings.
Which one (and what tension) would last the longest but still give me a combination of the power, feel, and comfort of the multi as well as the control and spin of the poly. I have a 16x19 string pattern.

In my experience, Multi mains with Poly crosses is one of the least durable hybrids. If you don't restring often, I would not suggest playing with Poly. It will lose too much tension before your next restringing. Most people that play with poly restring it about every 2 weeks.

Would you recommend the x-1 then? Does it have a fair/decent amount of control & spin?

It's definitely one of the top multis on the market. It's probably not the most spin oriented multi though, then again no multi's are known as spin strings.

What is it you want out of your string? What are the characteristics that are important to you in a string? What string do you currently like playing with?

I definitely like the power and comfort that the X-1 is known to have, but I also like to have a moderate amount of spin and control, which I was hoping a polyester cross could provide. I don't have the budget to restring as frequently though which eliminates polyester. My best choice seems to be the X-1 as long as it can provide me with a decent amount of spin.

Spin is really more of a technique thing than the string. Strings will help, but technique is really what generates the spin. For me must multis play the same in terms of ball bite, spin, etc. The only one I've tried so far that was more spin friendly was Gamma XP Ocho, but not by much.

You may want to consider a Natural Gut/Poly hybrid. More expensive than a full set of Biphase, but will keeps its playability longer and be much more durable. Gut mains and Poly Crosses is probably one of the most durable set ups you can have.

Another option I'd suggest is Babolat Origin. You may want to try that in a full bed and also as a hybrid. It seems to be a longer lasting string than Biphase and perform very similar according to one of my dubs partners.

I might get natural gut/poly some time in the future, but I just don't have the budget for that right now. For the X-1 Biphase, would you recommend pre-stretching it? What're the pros/cons?

Gut/poly is cheaper because it lasts so much longer. Multi poly shreds way too fast

What are you trying to accomplish with pre-stretching?

Biphase is $19 a pack. You can get a pack of Klip Legend for $26 and a good poly for less than $10 dollars. (I personally like the Tourna Polys for their price point and performance.) So at $36 dollars you'd get 2 hybrid jobs cheaper than 2 sets of Biphase. And the hybrid will last you twice as long as the full bed of multi.

a combination that should last long and probably won´t go dead
is babolat tonic mains / ashaway monogut zyex crosses

in general you shouldn´t only look at the price but also how long the strings hold up. a full multi setup isn´t durable, gut/poly is

Do you consider yourself a flatball hitter?
If you hit flat, I don't think there is any string that will create spin for you.
You have to generate the spin yourself.

If you generate spin, a string will help enhance the spin.
In my case, I find that a grippy main/slippery cross is the best combination.

How many hours do you guys get with multi/poly? I don't mind if I get at least 10 hours since I would buy a cheap multi.

Currently using gut/poly but for as long as it lasts the poly goes dead on me before the gut snaps. So thinking maybe multi/poly might be a good alternative as the multi should snap by the time the poly dies.

If I was to go with gut/poly, how well would the tension maintenance of the poly be? As I've said, I don't want to have to string so frequently or have dead, unplayable polys.

Depends on the poly. Unfortunately the stiffer ones hold tension better. 4G and Max Power come to mind for best tension maintenance.

Given what you want I think full gut would be best for you. I have a freind that hits flat and full gut last him 6 months. Great thing about gut it is the best string for tension maitenance.

Multi crossed with Poly lasts me a set of singles at most. Maybe 2 if it's doubles.

Try Tourna Black Zone as a poly cross. Keeps its tension pretty well imo.

Wow. What do you use now?

That was also in a 18x20 Ozone Pro Tour that it would break that fast.

Full bed of Big Hitter Blue 17g. Haven't found a better string yet imo. Personally, I think it's almost as soft as a syn gut.

Had a bout of TE over the past 6 months, so I have been hybriding BHB mains with Tourna Syn Gut Armor crosses for the past couple of months. Going back to full poly now again that the TE has cleared up.

I do have a set of Hyper G I plan on trying next, though it will have to perform significantly better for me to consider changing.

I get about 15 hours out of 16G multi mains with smooth 16G or 17G poly cross. I use either TF NRG2 16G or TF MultiFeel 16G mains with either Kirshbaum 16G or 17G Max Power poly. TF NRG2 and MultiFeel hold tension better than most according to me, TW and others statistics on the WWW. KB max power allows holds tension well according to me, TW and other statistics on the internets. KB max power is stiff so string it low. I play thin beam 98" SW330+ish at male 4.0 level. In hot weather mains 52-54 lbs with poly cross 48-50lbs and this plays very stiff to me. In cold weather, drop 2 to 4 lbs on both mains and crosses.

TF X1BP is a very good string but I found it notched quite fast if used with a poly. I actually like TF NRG2 and MultiFeel better than X1BP as they last longer and aren't as springy.
