Hybrid Set Ups

I am looking at trying my first hybrid string job. I have a few ideas, but would like to hear your opinions.

Which should be thinner, the polys or multifilaments/syn gut? Mains/crosses?

I always get a 17 main poly and 16 cross multi or synthetic. My favorite blend is SPPP and X1 with the SPPP in the mains.

My crosses are usually 2lbs tighter for me.

thinner, but more durable mains...

Mains should be thinner (impart more spin, have *relatively* better feel), but of more durable material. Crosses, "better strings" - this works for most folks (who break the mains before the crosses). I'm using old-school kevlar in the mains, and good nylon (pick it... that's why they make chocolate and vanilla...) in the crosses. Endgame goal is to wear out the crosses before the mains, but, for me, the cowboy rope in the mains still is the first to go (but usually in a couple of weeks vs. a couple of hours...).

MSV focus hex main all the way

MSV hex main is my preferred set up at the moment. Tons of feel, excellent tension maintenance. And yes you should use the thinnest gauge main string that you can sustain. I prefer 1.18 hex btw.

^^^All good points here.

I can comment on a few.
MSV Hex is great, fairly soft for a poly. (I use 1.10.) String accordingly. Cyberflash is stiffer and crisper, but plays great almost like Lux.

I was surprised at how muted and soft SPPP played. Even when I upped the tension it never came around. I'm not saying it's bad just not my cup of tea. (I used 1.18.)

X-1 is great in many characteristics, but do raise the tension. Otherwise too much power and too much string movement.

Hex and X-1 would be good. CF and X-1 should be great.

What are your typical stringing tensions?

Right now I'm playing indoors, so my tension is higher at around 58. Outside it is around 54. I haven't really experimented with the tension or string set ups.

I just strung my racquet with all Luxilon and it is killing my arm! Is MSV a softer poly? Also would you recommend that I try a hybrid? I am looking for a spin friendly one. Thanks in advance.
