Hybrid string setup with RPM on mains

I'm having some trouble using the Technifibre Pro Red Code as a cross string to hybrid with RPM Blast. Anyone have experience with this string or have recommendations for a poly to hybrid with RPM on the mains?

The thinking was that Red Code is slightly less stiff with similar specs as RPM (at half the price) and would be a viable candidate for a hybrid set-up. However, I dont like it as much as using RPM only (40/38).

I've tried varying the tension on the Red Code crosses from -2 all the way to -10 lbs and do not like it. Also tried Red Code on the mains and really didn't like it. I've read this is a popular string among college players, so not sure why I'm struggling.

Generally, my specs are 17g poly for both the mains and the crosses typically with -2 to -3 lbs differential. Most of my rackets are 18x20 string pattern with tension set at between 40 to 45 lbs.

First, get rid of RPM...it’s trash. Get a high quality nicely shaped copoly like diadem solstice power, tourna silver 7 tour, tier one firewire, and cross it with a smooth round soft copoly like ghostwire or signum pro poly plasma and string it at appropriate tension. Ghostwire and SPPP are my two favorite crosses at the moment. String crosses 2 lbs lower. I usually do low 50s. Polys don’t kill arms. Bad technique kills arms.

Didn't you just trash Ghostwire not too long ago?

I'm a poly novice, so let me know if I'm asking the wrong questions. Also, lmk if there is a better way to get an introduction to poly strings.

Over the past year, I've tried a handful of polys in various combinations and at least 2-3 string jobs each. Ranked by most favorite to least:
1. RPM/RPM - Couldn't hit the ball out, balls grew wings and leaped off the court
2. Luxilon Alu Power Rough/Lux Alu Power Rough - Pretty close to RPM/RPM, but "love" RPM/RPM vs. "like" Alu/Alu
3. RPM/Prince Premier Control - I know, I know some think this is a dumb idea, but my wrist was hurting from full poly for a while.
4. Luxilon Alu Power Rough/ Prince Premier Control - Same as 3
5. RPM/Proline 2 - Liked it for a few hours, but had to cut it out.

And then there Luxilon/Pro Red Code and RPM/Pro Red Code. These two combinations just didn't work for me. Every ball was popping up and hitting the back fence.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with the Pro Red Code or hybriding. I just can't seem to make the Red Code work as a cross and trying to understand what's going on.

Should I just do single poly set-ups to learn more about how each feel?

more info needed
what do you not like about the tec.red-code??
what do you like about the b.rpm??

Tension tried:

Poly/Poly - 50/48, 45/43, 40/38, 35/33 and 30/28

Settled at low 40s

Poly/Multi - 45/40 and 40/35

in what racquet? if you use a stiff racquet then stiff strings will enhance the stiffed feel even more so u might need to use full bed multi. Also, when you use multi in a hybrid, u should string it 10% higher than you would an equivalent poly or else it might be too loose since you need to account for it being softer. If your arm is really hurting, you’re better off with gut/multi in mains with soft copoly hybrid. I don’t see the price of expensive strings outweigh the price of pain. If your arm still hurts with soft copolys and u absolutely must use poly (like me) since u break strings so often, it might be time to get a softer racquet...diadem makes racquets with foam injected frames so they’re quite soft [emoji3059] but the open pattern shreds through strings so fast...onto the next frame [emoji19]

@sshin12
based on what you wrote, your seem to be favoring the "stiffer feel", of the b.rpm
there are several options out there that are similar "in feel"
but you mentioned that its hurting your arm!!
soo im not sure if choosing to stay in this path is what you wanna do???

anyway, to get back to your initial post/question
lots of polys out there have different feel
tec.redcode is a medium low power poly, with a buttery feel, imo/ime
b.rpm is a crisp feel poly
that little bit of comfort your getting from t.red.code, is not agreeing with your swing, from what it sounds like

there is babo.rpm.rough, which ime its a softer/mushier feel version of b.rpm
red, yellow, black,, btw all 3 colors feel slightly different,, red being the softest,

@1HBHfanatic Very interesting pov.

I've started to wrap everything that is breaking. Definitely not a 16 year old animal anymore...

I didn't even think about stiff vs softer poly's. Do you use tighter tension with the softer poly's?

in what racquet?

I'm using the Microgel Radical MP and the Graphene Touch Prestige MP. Definitely a string breaker and heavy topspin player.

I haven't had wrist issues since I started wrapping my wrist and increasing the weight of the rackets. Not too worried about the arm, but find the natural gut hybrid interesting.

If I like poly/poly at ~40 lbs, what's the translation for natural gut/poly hybrid?

i found 52/50 lbs the perfect tension with 17L xperience/18g SPPP in my diadem elevate tour (98) which is supposed to be very similar to the radical. If i were to use 17g i bump it down to ~50/48 lbs with diadem solstice power 17g//ghostwire 17g but that broke around the 7-8 hrs mark of heavy hitting so now im trying 16g solstice power//ghostwire 17g at 48.7/46 lbs. Gotta go few lbs lower for every thicker gauge because it will be stiffer. Poly shreds so fast in that frame that there’s no chance I’ll use gut in that. In my ezone98 however, I would need to string 1-2lbs lower on same gauge because it is tighter pattern so I want more power.

I would do gut 10-15% higher tension...~12.5% a good starting point...probably better to string it up at the higher end and if it’s too tight then let it settle in, eventually over time the strings will loosen up and you’ll find your sweet spit

i actually hit with a friend’s prestige MP strung up with proline II 16g which hit nicely. It is a soft round copoly with good ball pocketing but if u want great spin, use a nice shaped poly like solstice power in mains with proline II crosses and ull be in spinny heaven

yes and no, you can go up in tension for a while, but eventually the softest of the softer polly will show up again (when the string stretches and the tension drops), and youll dislike it once again
same issue i have with playing with 18g polys after playing with 17g exclusively,, 18g starts out nice, but 30 minutes latter (nojoke here, 30min), i start to feel how musshy it gets for me and i start to crave the control i like from the 17g polys im used to

Thanks @blai212 and @1HBHfanatic !

I tried RPM and Red Code again, but not hybrided, and liked them both. Something was off when I hybrid these two and not sure why. Regardless, I'm going to stop hybriding for a while and trial different polys alone.

Got some Kirschbaums from a sale a while back. Never heard of Diadem before, so looking into that.
