Hybrid stringing: different guage strings?

I'm planning to stringing a poly/multi hybrid.

My poly is Head Sonic 17g. Should I also use a 17g synthetic gut? My synthetic gut is Forten Sweet. I also have Forten Sweet 16. Any reason why I might want to use the 16 instead? Would it be more durable when combined with the poly?

If I normally string all synthetic gut around 60lbs, then would:

Poly in mains at 57
Multi in crosses at 60

Be a reasonable thing to try?

Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

I would try a 16 gauge instead, the problem most people have with hybrids, atleast for me is that the polys never break. Instead my breaks come from the fraying of the cross that you use, which is why you might want to try a 16 over a 17 in terms of durability. And your tensions are dead on for what you want to do, people generally string the polys a few pounds lower in the mains. Best of luck. if it helps any I pretty much use your same combo except its the prince version. Prince 17g tournament poly and 16 gauge syn gut. same tensions and everything. Also by using the 17g poly, it will still provide the same access to spin that you would get from a full bed of 16g syn gut.

Thanks! This is very helpful. Can't wait to give it a try.
