Hydrogen Sports PROTON for Pickleball

I I was walking at the park near my house during my morning routine and I saw a Lobster pickleball machine on the PB court. The player is a 60 years old woman and she was practicing both her FB and BH. She said that the lobster PB machine is good but too heavy for her to carry, and the lobster machine is around 42 lbs. I think the Proton should enter the PB market and I think it will dominate this market over lobster and other machines. The proton is currently at 19 lbs and I think it will be much more stable than the tennis machine due to the distance and weight the Pickleball has to travel.

Maybe something Jonas should consider.

he's mentioned it.. for now has no plans for a pickle ball machine.

i think with some re-programming.. it should work fine.

you can just lessen the ball speed or angle for distance. I think the issue is the ball size opening inlet, outlet and the throwing wheels need to be a different size. They should have thought about it when they made it. FYI I did try out a tennis ball in a pickle ball machine and it does work but a pickleball doesn’t work in a tennis machine

I agreed. I think it should be easy to redesign the Proton to fit a PB environment and the Proton will sell like hotcakes due to its weight and probabilities. It is because old PB geezers can take the machine in/out of the car and onto the PB courts. Not to mention that these people have disposable incomes to do this and they are not cheapskates. I see many of them with the PB CRBN paddle that costs like $250.

if there were a spring or adjusments on the rollers to adjust the difference in ball diameter.. the proton would make a good machine.....

for now..PB are for peeps that can't play tennis... :-D:laughing::-D:laughing:

my local tennis court has both courts.. i get asked all the time to play PB.. that i'd make a very good PB player..

when i get old and no longer can run.. i'll consider it..

I am afraid that PB is here to stay for good and probably already takes over tennis in popularity. Below is the picture I took in December 2nd 2022. The weather is around 0 degree Celsius and windy but you could see that PB courts were full of people while the tennis courts next to them were emptied :-D

I mean look at that crowd, retired people, of course pickleball courts will be crowded, that age group has all the free time in the world.

Given most ball machines compress the ball, the pickleball ball machine would require different engineering.

might just be a software update for those that already have the machine..
I am not sure that is possible because
pickleballs are not the same size as tennis balls. Pickleballs are slightly larger in diameter than tennis balls. I would think that would involve more than just software updates, that’s my guess.

I’m guessing it’s an entirely different machine. The tennis version compresses the ball before shooting it out. You can’t compress a pickleball.

I have a 30 year old Tennis Tutor Jr. I converted to pickleball. I bought the pickleball throwing wheels and cut some plastic for the balls to drop and it works fine. A pickleball compresses on the wheels that have rubber for grip. To make it ideal for pickleball a tennis machine would need to have the lowest speed slower and the side to side radius wider.

Proton or someone else should make a machine that easily converts from tennis to pickleball by electronically adjusting the throwing wheel spacing. I have the next best thing with my Spinfire Pro. I made my own pickleball throwing wheels and can swap them out in a couple of minutes. If I use the smallest available balls, no other modifications are needed.
