Hydrogen Sports PROTON

took the plunge..... ordered yesterday. I have a Samsung Fold phone. All the videos I see online are about the Apple software. What is the experience with the Android version?
i would prefer a built in AI with voice commands, or mind control interface like this helmet for F35

I've only used mine three times (had it for a week), but I haven't had any problems with the Proton app on my Pixel 7. I will say that I desperately want an Android Wear version though. It's quite annoying to run over to my phone while the machine is running with balls in the hopper just to pause it; I'd much prefer to use my watch, even just to start/stop it.

I'm really enjoying my Proton thus far, but have two little annoyances I'm wondering if anyone else deals with.
1. The machine rarely shoots all the balls. 90% of the time there is one or two balls left on the back side of the hopper, where the hopper "fence" bottom falls to the outside of the machine, causing the balls to "sit" in the divot. Not the end of the world, but annoying.
2. When I'm done with the machine the ball turner thing just stops in a random position, meaning I can't always get the stirring screw back in it's location. Any tips on dealing with this? Today I just turned the machine back on and let it run for a split second to rotate the turner to the point I needed, but it seems like there should be a better option. I expected it to default to the original position when finishing a session but I was apparently wrong.

Works great on my Pixel phone, I have no idea what the Apple app is like but I don't feel like anything is missing. The one thing I do wish we had is the Google watch support, then I wouldn't need to carry my phone in my pocket. That said, I change programs very often so if probably still need my phone anyway.

is this you??!!
Stampy??!! FTW

I hit with mine a few days ago and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT at all. The programs are great for any level. I did some straight feeds and then switched it up to a “Rally, Approach Shot, Volley” drill. That one was a workout! Overall very impressed with how it performed and looking forward to more practices with it. Also I used Wilson Triniti Pros, they hit very well. Soft and more realistic than the regular Trinitis.

yes.. i had the slinger bag for a whole 2 hrs then sold it and got the Proton. :D
So you bought the slinger first and then ended up with the proton anyway. Sounds like they compete to me.

I had a slinger too. Bought a proton and sold the slinger. Then just also bought a slinger again for a specific reason. Keeping the proton. Nothing is going to replace it for me. Proton can’t shoot slow enough at high enough of an angle to do hand toss simulated drills though.

These are completely different machines for sure. But they compete for dollars.

- is the proton really worth $1000 more than the slinger?
- I want a proton but can’t afford it. Should I just get a slinger or save up for proton?

if you’re trying to compare the actual machines. I’d stand by that the proton has no competition. Nothing else actually understands proper software to support the machine. Then layer in price point and what you get.

is this the Rival to proton ?? Dual motor ?? Nisplay tennis ball machine

I wouldn’t be surprised if this got some traction and became a contender.
Guy I know at work bought the Nisplay N2 version (solid gray in color) and says it’s a pretty decent machine. Angle adjuster is a little better on the N2 compared to N1 versions, and an on-board battery indicator I believe are the only differences btwn the two. I’ve read about some fitment issues with the optional oscillator base with the machine but don’t really know much about the issue so can’t really comment there. If it stays at a grand or less it’ll def compete with the Proton, lower end Tennis Tutor models, etc, etc.

does it hold more balls than Proton ? how does the Speed and Spin compare ? can it shoot out ATP tour caliber balls like 75 MPH with 3000 RPM spin,, because Proton can and not many machines this size can shoot out that kind of quality ball

I have zero clue as to what the machine can and can’t do spec-wise as I don’t own one…look it up. At a $700 lower price tag, I’m willing to bet it’ll certainly sway Proton, and other machine makers’ buyers in its’ direction. Look at what Slinger has done and a Slinger machine isn’t half the capability of what this Nisplay machine can do.

And “ATP tour caliber balls”…is this some new rating benchmark that machines are coming out with as a sales pitch?

First time last night testing the new unit.
250 balls with no hiccups so far. No regrets. Super lightweight. Very intuitive / UX app, kudos to the software/dev team.

Due to how lightweight it really is, the unit would veer off and turn even though it's a simple down the middle shot drill shooting 62mph at 3s intervals--it would become a crosscourt drill basically.
Maybe can 3D print a heavy base that will stabilize the unit from moving.

Software wise: One thing I wanted to note is that I was having issues connecting via Google pixel phone.
I noticed the hardware/bluetooth connectivity was seeing the Proton machine; however, within the actual app itself, it was blank.
Manually trying to pair via Android blue tooth settings resulted in incorrect pin or passkey.

My best guess is due to OS on my Pixel not being completely stock Android may be the culprit.
I swapped to my friend's iPhone and was immediately up and running.

I'm using a stock Pixel 7 and have had 0 connectivity issues, so I think the non-stock version might indeed be the culprit.

Well this a a VERY awkward post, considering I was the one that started this thread. I have to say I’m VERY disappointed with the Proton company. I ordered my Proton finally got it in and used it once. It went great, the second outing the rotation tray was operating correctly. It would spin but only will a few balls loaded. Third time out same problem, I contacted Proton and even sent several videos demonstrating the issue.I asked for a new machine or a refund. They sent me a free shipping label and said it would take 5-7 business days to repair it. One thing I can say about Slinger is the customer service was pretty remarkable. I’m very disappointed that machine didn’t work properly but even more disappointed at how this was handled. For the amount this machine costs there’s no reason they shouldn’t have top notch service. I hope your Protons are serving you well, I’m asking for a refund for mine.

I'm a little bit confused about your post.

1. Sucks that it didn't work out. Maybe a lemon, maybe unlucky. Either way, it sucks
2. You express your disappointment in Proton but then mention Slinger. I only looked at your original post and not the whole thread. Did you own a Slinger prior to the Proton? Proton's reaction seems reasonable - free shipping label and then fix. Sounds like you were hoping they would send you a new machine first. Maybe they didn't have any available?

Not saying you're wrong, but just seeking clarification. Thanks.

Yes I had a Slinger when it was first launched. Then I discovered Proton, but I had already had a Slinger so I decided to keep it. About a year later, I decided the sell the Slinger and upgrade to a Proton. However if I had ANY issues the Slinger the customer service was more than outstanding. I would have thought for the amount the Proton costs they would handle their customers the same if not better. A free shipping label and a fix isn’t a solution I am okay with, maybe it is for some.

Dude. You’re unlucky to have to be dealing with customer support so much (it sounds like?) across multiple companies and machines. Maybe during your next match you can give some generous line calls in favor of your opponent to appease the tennis gods and get karma going back in your favor?

Joking aside:
I AM pretty confused about what the problem is and why it’s angered you so.

I get that it’s disappointing to get a $2k ball machine and it not work as expected, but in your post you basically said Proton said they’ll fix it or refund you. Which sounds fair. Did you want them to exchange yours for a brand new one? Where did the “bad service” come in?

I’m pretty sure you just answered your own question.lol Also. I didn’t say it was bad customer service, I just didn’t like the way they handled it compared to Slinger.

In order to receive a full refund they asked me to ship the Proton back them, but it had to arrive by tomorrow in order to fulfill the 30 day money back warranty less a 10% restock fee of course. After it’s all said and done, we landed at me shipping it back to them and them sending me a temporary replacement while mine is being repaired. So I guess we’ll see how this plays out.

Oh now I see why you’re bothered. That’s annoying to now make it your urgent problem “or else”

I think it'd be fair to request post mark date as opposed to arrive date to qualify for that warranty. I believe most places follow that logic, but don't quote me on that.

Curious to hear your experience with Slinger's CS. I know you mentioned it being superior, but in what ways? Good to know as a consumer how they distinguished themselves. Thanks.

Is this your problem that you’re dealing with? No it’s mine, so who are you to tell me how behave or respond. Yeah I’m FAWKING pissed and as a consumer I have every right to be. I’m not a negative person by nature, I don’t EVER complain even when I have reason to and I’d even consider myself to be a reasonable person. So yeah their response was **** poor imo. It if were my business I would have shipped the customer a new one asap and ask for the defective model to be sent back and their expense.

TTW never disappoints with the response and replies here.

I had a similar issue with the Slinger, just wasn’t operating correctly. Send them a video and they responded the same day with an email (not three days later) and rectified the situation with a new machine and even included new accessories which they didn’t have to do (Oscillater, ball tube, etc) . They asked that I ship the old Slinger in the new box and their expense. So yeah stellar response and customer service.

Just my two pennies, take it for what it’s worth…I don’t think you caught what he was saying. He’s saying it sux that Proton is making you jump through your azz to ship it back to arrive to them within the 30-day period with only a day or two to play with, while knowing it’s defective, to alleviate the 10% restock fee. At least that’s the way I translated what he said.

Yes you’re right, I jumped the gun and misread what ryohazuki22 wrote and for that I apologize. Just still a little pissed about this situation. But there CERTAINLY more important things going on in the world right now than my Proton purchase.

Calm down. I was genuinely understanding your situation. Not being sarcastic. Until you clarified that point none of your previous posts made sense to me.

Well, ordered in early July for week of August 4..... emailed August 3rd when no word received... Basically told to cool my jets, week of August 4 included Friday.

no shipping email, emailed Saturday the 5th, "We are closed for the weekend". Ah, the wonderous world of internet shopping......

Last night, my unit spat out a screw (or I assume it did since it was next to it) and I'm posting here for visibility and also, to see if anyone recognizes which internal mechanism this was a part of?

Exterior wise, I've looked all over last night and it does not seem to be anything on the outside.

Its engravings contain "IHUAI, 12.9"

Thanks in advance.

My unit has been only used for about 700 balls since I got it last week.

Look on the bottom, underneath of the Proton. Your screw looks like one which holds the bottom cover on, should be about 10 screws total.

Thanks for the replies, guess I will have to open it up.

The squeezing of that side wall is kind of jank lol

I briefly used it yesterday for a warm up before my practice and functionality was not affected for now

Good to open it up at regular intervals to blow out ball fuzz and just to visually inspect components to make sure they are secure, show no abnormal wear, and in good general condition.

It's not a bug, it's a feature! Included Easter Egg is the hidden screw manufacturing accessory.

Now, back to the b#tch#ing...... As I said earlier, ordered in early July for ship date of "week of August 4" Now Tuesday morning - no word (Yes I realize the time diff. East Coast West Coast)

I think they have like one person (Novia) manning the help desk, customer service, support, etc. I got an email from her letting me know about the shipping delay/confirmation.
