He was due to play Taro Daniel, who conquered Djokovic last year, but a back injury has forced Chung out. Apparantly Chungs been struggling with this injury since last year. He's not played since losing in the first round of Rotterdam.

Chung will fall to about 125th in the world after this tournament, since being Isnred in the Miami quarter finals last year he's had no notable results. The only way is up for the man once labelled Baby Djokovic.

So this guy is made of even more glass than Nishi? I remember he had some good runs reaching the quarters in IW and Miami.

Novak seems to have outperformed his "conquerors" ...

There goes the hopes of all Koreans. South Koreans, I meant. Chung is becoming like Nishikori, made of glass

If Nishikori is made of glass, Chung is made of sugar glass (the kind used in the movies). I hope he gets over his injuries.

Can we stop having multiple threads about this player? He may have been touted as a talent but he was never really mentioned regularly and outside of “ones to watch” posts until he beat a subpar Djokovic. He’s fragile as all get out and he never really had a long future in tennis.

Do not insult Chung comparing him with Coric.

Chung has 2 epic matches in his career (AO 2018 vs Djokovic, RG 2017 5 sets vs Nishikori). Coric has no epic match, nor will he ever have one.
Coric is far better than Chung. baby Djokovic is Coric, not Chung. One nice match against 80% Djokovic. Lots of players can have long match against non-peak Nishikori. Chung's match meant nothing. you will hear nothing about him anymore unless you spend time watching players from ranked #50-#200.
He is the Cece Bellis on men's side. Delusional ridiculous hype and perpetual 1st & 2nd rd losses.
Coric defeated Zeverev in USO also had epic match against GOAT Fed at Masters 1000 last year. He is true NextGen, not Chung.

Guy should try and fix his FH and serve during his time off court.

He's got potential IMO (or maybe I'm just biased) given his power and movement.

I really hope he can back to tennis. As an asian player and tennis lover It's great having him and nishikori around, chung is an idol in Korea and a great rolemodel. So many people look up to him, hope he gets on track. Really

Exactly. How can people honestly believe he will be top 20 w/o improving that wonky serve and FH? If he does I am happy to see that he improved. There's plenty of powerful young hungry players with speed who try to emulate Djokovic.

So did Chung. At AO.

At the end of the day, Chung has a slam SF, which is a far bigger result than anything Coric has done. Coric's claim to fame is beating a sub-par Federer to reach a masters final and pushing a sub-par Fed in another masters SF.

Fair enough. So, Chung beating a recovering Djokovic and then Tennys Sandgren in AO18 QF made you a real believer? C'mon.
That is the Lucas Pouille argument and many more. Where are these guys now?
Current rank of Sandgren #91, Chung is #92. hmmm, okay.

So far, Chung is a one-slam "ultra-lucky" SemiFinalist (asterisk) and now he is a suddenly a box-office attraction?
If he can be do it again, it is not considered luck. No matter I give congrats to him for beating the players in his way.
I am just not on the Chung train at this moment until he consistently gets to 3rd round or better. Chung's return game, speed, and net covg. is very good but it is not translating to wins. Maybe it's the injuries, mental, I don't know since I don't follow him.

However, in no way are avg. tennis fans or his peers thinking he is a slam SF player. They are looking at Zverev, Khachanov, the Canadian youngsters and other young talent. BTW, I am no Zev, Khacahnov or Coric fan. I do admire Karen and Borna's fight though. If Chung gets back to that higher level, great. I hope he beats Zev & Shapovalov every time.

I am not a Chung fan either. But objectively speaking, at the highest level Coric is not better than him. Yes, Chung beat a sub-par Novak to reach the AO semis, but Coric has still yet to make a slam QF, so what Chung did is still better, regardless of how he did it. Especially since Coric didn't lose to titan of the game in the slams. And Chung also defeated Zverev too to reach that AO semi.

He has decided to do K-Pop instead of Pro tennis, following Bouchard's better success in social media (than in tennis)?? :D

Forget their Masters matches. If I was Coric, I'd definitely be thumping my chest over beating Federer in a grass court final.

He beat Tennys Sandgren in QF to get to AO semis
Chung beat Zev at AO. Okay so did Coric at US Open.
The point is Chung is not the same as early 2018 Chung and may never be. We can't worship a player ranked #90 who really does not have any weapons to win a slam.
If it were the other way around with Coric ranked #90 I'd say the same thing. His only true test came against the maestro and he got run over albeit with blisters.
RF & Chung then played soon again, same result, he was beat soundly.
And still, it's time!!!!!!!!!! Nishikori & Osaka (#1 WTA) are the elite leaders of Asian tennis.
