Hyper G with slick cross?

Anyone try Hyper G with a slick / round poly cross? Thinking it might dampen it and decrease notching. Looking at crossing 18g Hyper g with RS Lyon or YPTP in an 18x20 frame.

Hyper G with Lyon cross is very good. It softens the stringbed a little, but similar spin and control vs a full bed Hyper G.

Hyper G with a thin round poly cross works very well for me. Durability is quite good too. I restring after 14-16 hours of playing time.

Really liking this so far. Very comfortable setup and very good combo of spin and control without being dead. This will be my go to setup in my Blade from now on.

Maybe try it with Ghostwire.

I have been playing with HyperG/ghost wire so hopefully can offer some insight here.

hyperg 1.25 @ 22kg
GW 1.22 @ 21kg

My usual setup is full hyperg 1.25 @ 22/21kg

The ghost wire adds
- much more comfort
- higher launch angle
- more ball pocketing/better feel

I would say actually less power and spin.

There is still good spin but the strings just don’t bite as much at lower swing speeds.

I would say it’s well worth a try if you love hyperg but find it a little harsh.
I would also recommend stringing the crosses at the same tension as the mains.

@ls206 - I started using Hyper G on my Blade v7 18x20 and like it but you mentioned to string both mains and crosses at same tension. Currently strung at 46lbs mains and 42lbs crosses but wanted to know your reason for using same tension for the entire string bed.

signum pro poly plasma is my fav cross string, nice soft dampness feeling and half the price of most other strings!

It was more a comment for when using Ghost Wire as a cross. Because it’s a lot softer than HyperG I don’t feel like it needs the tension dropped to open up the sweetspot.

I’m going to try HyperG 1.25/1.20 next

I am gonna try 1.20mm Hyper G and see how that plays. If it plays well, then I don't need to use a cross but will keep that option open. Let me know what your thoughts are on your next setup.

I’ve been using hyper g 17 as mains with MSV focus hex 17 as a cross at 45/42. The hex is a little harder than hyper g so it doesn’t notch but the slipperiness starts to drop off before the strings are dead, about 5 to 6 hours, not sure why. I’m going to try prince Tour XC 17L next. It’s also a little harder than hyper g but is slicker than hex.

Which cross did you use? I’m playing a full bed of Hyper G 17 in my V7 Blade 18x20. I like it a lot. Curious about what you would get out of RS Lyon or PTP that you don’t already get from Hyper G. I feel like Hyper G is already a very comfortable copoly.

No reason tbh. I had both, I wanted more spin / less harshness but tame some Hyper G power with a deader string.

I'd try YPTP as the cross, it's super slick and smooth and will give you more comfort than the full bed of hyper-g. That setup will have some big power depending on your tension and both of those strings have a pretty sharp drop-off in feel/comfort at the 10-15 hour mark. I haven't tried that hybrid yet, but I just did full reviews on both hyper-g and YPTP as full bed on youtube. Two of my favorite polys by far.

If you like it damp, try HG 1.15/Black Force 1.14. But it may have a little more pop than you want. It is comfortable enough to go up a lb. Besides that BF is slippery and resists notching very well.

Did you end up trying it with Ptp cross? I wonder if this combo addresses hyper-g stiffness and Ptp lack of power?
