Hi guys! Long time reader, time for my first post :)

I´m Prostaff 97 user, playing with full bed of Solinco HyperG 1.15 at around 24kg

Really love the hyperG, but I´m also thinking about optimizing the spin potential even more.
Have tried A-P Rough before and thought it was great, but not for a long time :)

My "goals" with this hybrid, if Im going for it:

1. More spin
2. Have the strings last more than the average 6h of play I get with full HyperG. 10h would be nice to get
3. Keep the great feel/power/control with HyperG but just add a little more pop that maybe Rough can give me?

I´m thinking to put the Luxilon string in the mains, with the hyperG in the crosses
Would you agree on that choice? Is that the best way to get more spin? Or the other way around?

One thought about this setup is also that the Luxilon is thicker (1.25) so it will last a bit better. Or will it saw through the hyperG string extremly fast? I always brake the main strings, have never broken a cross string ..

Regards,
Otto

I have never personally used these two strings, so take this with a grain of salt.

TW reviews numbers on these two strings are very similar, only big difference is playability. At 18g it would be even worse compared to the 16g hyper G that was reviewd.
Seems to me hybriding these two strings would have minuscule effects on how it will play compared to having either in full bed.
If Hyper G only lasts you 6 hours and it is a big issue for you to restring, maybe just abandon it and use alu rough instead.
Mixing a string with low playability and one with much higher playability seems like a waste of money.

Theoretically, using two strings with edges in a hybrid would decrease spin unless they are somehow well matched. The edges will create extra friction against each other. You're better off using a smooth poly in the crosses with either of your shaped strings in the mains.

HyperG is not a string with edges, at least not like AP Rough that have clear "roughness"

When someone brings their strings to me (and I don't recognize the string) I slide a foot of string between my thumb and fingers. You don't need more than that to know if it is edged or smooth.

Hyper G is edged. I have a reel of it along with three other edge polys I stock and four smooth polys I stock.

In general, you want the edged string in the mains and the round string in the crosses.

In my experience, Hyper G holds its playability much better than ALU Power, so I'd swap in a different cross. Of the strings I know well, either Luxilon Element or Wilson Revolve would work well. There are plenty of others.

Oups, sorry. I was sure what was called a string with edges was something that had like a octagon shape, such as "RS Octagon Paris" ... I was string hyperG for myself while writing that and it was so smooth =)

Guess I wont be going for this combo then, thanks for sharing the info mr Seekay
