Since @RS is losing faculties and hasn't posted a thread concerning this hypothetical yet, I'll do it myself.

Had Zverev gotten injured, had Medvedev gotten COVID-19, had Sinner commited a federal sin that granted his expulsion from Australia... Who would've won a hypothetical but plausible tennis contest between Alcaraz and Novak in the AO 2024 final?

This would've been the dream final for some, btw (ehem, @Kralingen).

Would this have become an intant iconic classic of the Australian Open finals?

Would this have become an intant iconic classic of the US Open finals, like the immortal Sampras-Agassi of 1995 or the mythical Federer-Hewitt of 2004?
If Novak played the almost "drunk tennis" of sets 1-2 then he's gifting a 2-set lead to Tiny.

I don't know man. It's close, but I gotta think Tiny has a good shot at pulling out one more set versus the three Novak would have to dig out.

But if it's Novak of sets 3-4 for the whole match then Novak for sure.

Novak was peak, just Sinner that played peak Kyrgios tennis with that amazeballs lightning thunderbolt serve of his.

Don't see how Chari would fair well considering how dead bouncing courts are his archenemy just like it was for Nadal. Zod would not be the only one to exploit his weakness, Mad Lad, Sin man and peak Nole would destroy him even more horrendously.

Djokovic in straight sets to be honest. Alcaraz had looked kind of poor all tournament, we shouldn't judge him on his match vs Zverev coz that was honestly one of the best matches I've seen Zverev play but yeah, I still think Djokovic in straights.

He's interested in old match ups only .

Easily Alcaraz. Just the match before the Z disaster, Alcaraz played by far the match of the tournament.

You had to see it to believe just how high his level was.

The Z match was also better than the Sinnovic catastrophe. While admittedly Carlos sucked in the first two sets, Z played the match of his life arguably while sets 3 and 4 were very good with the tiebreak showing glimpses of the extraordinary tennis Charlie is capable of.

Djokovic wasn't at his best the whole tournament but played well in the Fritz and Mannarino matches and seemed to be playing into form until he played the first 2 sets against Sinner. Alcaraz on the other hand played decent, consistent tennis but nothing that completely wowed me. No opponent really pushed him until Zverev, who just outhit him on both sides.

If I had to go based on average level the whole tournament, I'd probably pick Carlos in 4 bad sets. If I had to go based on their playing into form, by the time they both reach the finals then Djokovic wins in 4.

I'm thinking that Novak threw that semi final against Sinner.

All I will say is this, it would have been a let down after the W 2023 final. Don't think they would have lived up to expectations had they played.

LMAO this is so ridiculous. So you really think Djokovic would deliberately sabotage his opportunity to:
1. Break the all-gender Grand Slam record by winning #25
2. Win his 11th AO title, steering closer to Rafa's RG count of 14
3. Become the first tennis player ever to win 35 consecutive matches at the AO
?!

Man, sorry, but this is trolling on another level.

And if you really think Djokovic threw that match, then you should also admit that Sinner tanked the 2023 Wimbledon semi-final and this year's IW semi-final

I’m a tennis fan first, a RAFAN second. Plus I have common sense.
OK I understand.
By the way, just out of curiosity, have you ever watched Djokovic play in the SF-F stages of the 2011, 2016 and 2019 Australian Open?
The confidence with which you claim those versions of Djokovic to be so vastly superior to prime Sinner does arouse some suspicion...

To be frank, I find it really hypocritical how Djokovic fans try to hype up their idol's wins against an old, past-prime Federer during 2014-2019, but when Sinner beats an old Djokovic, they try so hard to argue that "prime Djokovic would have destroyed this Sinner"
A similar argument can be made for Federer-Djokovic rivalry.

For example, AO 2024 Djokovic was clearly better than:
Wimbledon 2015 final Federer (specifically the final)
AO 2016 semi-final Federer

Now that I 100% agree with. This also applies to beating 2015-2016 RAFA all those times.

In those conditions Djokovic in 4 sets
