Who wins if Federer v Thiem met in the 2019 French open, eg if they met at the final.
Federer had match point against Thiem in Madrid, Thiem defeated Djokovic in the semi final. What will have been the outcome if they had met.
I'm just curious

For sure nobody would say a word about Thiem being tired after playing his semifinal for 2 days in a row.
If only it wasn’t so windy...

If only Thiem wasn’t tired...

If only there wasn’t rain delay...

If only Wawrinka wasn’t tired...

If only Djokovic wasn’t sick...

If only Djokosmash didn’t happen...

And so on.

This Nadal guy is lucky to even win 1 RG title, what a useless player.

I'm not trusting Thiem in any slam final until I see him actually win one.

I'll take Fred in 4 against a tired, nervous Timmy.

Well given the Madrid match and the fact that Fed was in better form at RG and Thiem would likely be a bit worse after the long match...

Put a gun to my head I'd probably still pick Tim but the fact that he's not a shoe in here is damning.

Why is no one mentioning that Thiem has a three year history of choking and underperforming in slam finals? The final was also not played in windy conditions, that happened in the semis.

If you factor that in, I think Fed wins in four sets. The crowd would have been hysterically rooting for Fed as well.

Lol no. Thiem doesn't have a history of choking in the RG finals.
That's like saying Fraud choked in 2005 SF, 2006-08&11F and Djoker choked in all those lost finals.
The opponent is Cãpy on the Parisian dirt we are talking about.
He doesn't let you win.

And it isn't underperforming either. He is just not good enough to beat Cãpy. But he can handle Fraud alright.

Fraud was beaten by Thiem at IW, Madrid and WTF last year, all tournaments where Fraud has a much better record than RG.
And all tournaments where Thiem has a much worse record than RG.

So you are telling me that Thiem would underperform against Fraud in the RG final?
I say Fraud would be roflstomped in 3 or beaten in 4 coz of one set of inspired play by the old man.

@Stannis Baratheon Please quote me correctly, I said "choking AND underperforming" in slam finals.

There's utterly no question he choked away the 2020 AO final from a winning position, with an out-of-sorts opponent who wasn't playing anywhere near his best level.

Regarding his two RG finals: how can anyone deny he underperformed? He's supposed to be the heir apparent to Rafa on clay, the "crown prince of clay." It's blatantly obvious he underperformed massively in both those finals. At RG in 2014 he played Rafa in R64 and won a total of 7 games. Yet in the 2018 RG final, he won only 9 games (!) with 4 more years experience. In the 2019 RG final, the last two sets were 6-1, 6-1 for Nadal. Never mind that Thiem went into both finals with a loser's mentality and had the inexplicable quote both years, "I will try my best, but I realize I have very little chance."

Nadal was 33 years old and Thiem 25 years old at last year's final. Of course Rafa is God of clay, but a 25 year old in his peak physical form should dismantle even Nadal at age 33. So yes, Thiem underperformed to a ludicrously high degree in both RG finals.

Thiem came out guns blazing in the first 2 sets vs Nadal esp the first set and still lost, Fed would have no chance competing vs Thiem physically like that

Thiem wins in 4, Fed takes the 3rd set then Thiem crushes the 4th set 6-1 or somethin'

Thiem seems like the easy choice but it's not as lopsided as one might think, he is still Roger Federer at the end of the day so he'll definitely force the the youngster to work his a** off for it

It really should be Thiem in 4 sets but then again, it's Thiem so who knows. Maybe old man would have had a punching chance.
