Hypothetical question re doping

You are a talented and gifted junior that's won junior slams. You discover that doping is commonplace amongst the seniors and you have very little chance of reaching the summit of the sport, despite your outstanding talent, without it.

Choice A - don't dope, languish in teens/twenties watching certain dopers with less talent win majors

Choice B - join the club to give yourself a chance using sophisticated masking agents within a poor doping program, ie with little chance of being caught.

Does this explain the relative lack of success for Gasquet and Monfils - both junior phenoms who have not realized their potential.

Or maybe, just maybe, they simply did not reach their potential?

Interesting question nonetheless. Hard to answer. But I guess it depends how seriously I take my tennis and if I would like to be involved in a sport where doping is the key ingredient to success.

dont dope, document the whole thing as best as i can (with todays technology its quite easy), after a few years turned to become a whistle blower.

get hollywood to make a movie of my struggle and make money!

A and it is not a hard choice! Of course you want to win Slams and reach the pinnacle of your profession but cheating is not winning and cheats do not prosper ask Lance.

I take your point but these top players have such a hunger to win, and they devote their entire life to winning......

Tennis Lance seems to be doing just fine.

Seems a tad ironic citing Gasquet as someone who failled to reach their potential for lack of doping! Wasn't he suspended a couple of years ago for testing positive for cocaine (said he'd got it through kissing a girl with cocaine on her lips)!

to think how successful he would have been if he blood doped with a tried and true blood doping method that actually helped your game instead of cocaine, considering cocaine constricts the flow of blood, the opposite of the desired effect :|

hopefully he'll get on the right stuff soon.

Personally speaking, all that money, I'd be doping like a fiend......and most people on this site would be too....no matter how much they protest. :)

Sad but true.

Blood testing before and during every major. Life ban for anyone caught. The only solution.

thankfully the atp isnt as absolute as you. instead of a lifetime ban i would impose a mandatory 6 month period of play after serving an 8 month ban to showcase caught player's level of suck without suspect pharmaceutical assistance
