I’m starting to like Novak more

Nadal's humility is not his natural instinct, he has been mentally conditions/trained by Uncle Toni to not break racquets or never sound too cocky because sounding humble always puts less pressure on yourself and more on your opponent, it is a strategy that has been taught to him. He is naturally not humble.

For the record, no true champion on this earth is humble. Underrating oneself is a strategy, not a natural instinct, if it was his natural instinct then he would never be an ATG.

Being too humble is for peasants, not for rulers, the people who rule are always aggressive from within, they just dont show it and so they are called humble, people like Fed showed it in their peak and were called lordly.
It's just about getting the pride in line with ability. Those with a lot of ability sometimes struggle with balancing that.

Talkin about humble behaviour  like when he greets deportation from Australia towards Djokovic, or when he celebrates inappropriately

Federer was an all Court Master , who used to reach Finals on every surface week after week .

His Professionalism can be compared to none.

Similarly , Djokovic was an all Court Master and his professionalism from 2011-2023 is on another stratosphere.

In terms of domination of the tour as Worl No. 1 , Federer and Djokovic are the only two to surpass 300 weeks as number one , and have 6 WTF aswell .

My point is , It would have been very easy for tennis fans to like Federer and Novak equally and both fanbases like each other's favourite player , but their personal enmity stopped fans from appreciating one another.

If there was no Federer-Srdjan War , it would be easy for fans to like both players.

I'm pretty sure a humble person doesn't buy a super yacht nor wear a 2 million dollars watch, let alone put a giant picture of himself in front of his own tennis academy.
I dont follow his off Court activities as much as you guys who seem to follow his news everyday. Frankly I am least interested what they do in their private lives. That said lets focus on his on court activities. A man who respects the tools of his trade is a man with a good head on his shoulders.

I don’t think about ‘rulers’ or not. These are tennis players for god’s sake. Being confident and over confident is a fine line. As a professional player for 20 odd years I think he has balanced it pretty well.

Besides I love it how you guys know his ‘natural instinct’ when you have never spent even an hour with him in your life.

I'm not a Nadal fan so I don't follow his personal life. Being a fan of another player and hate-following Nadal or any other player is just sad.

Why should we focus on just his on court when we are talking about his persona ? Does he have multiple personality on and off court ? Not that we are giving a clean chit to on court or saying he is the devil reincarnation

As a person, he’s more relatable than Federer or Nadal who are PR bots. His work ethic, ambition, and focus are also incredibly inspiring. I have no dislike for the guy, though I do dislike his most overzealous fans.

The problem I have with Djokovic is that outside of 07/08 and 11 he hasn’t tended to play with the kind of flair that gets you out of your seat, gamestyle wise. He’s a great foil for a more dynamic player when the opponent is really firing but the past 7-8 years of career inflation era that happens rarely. Having such hegemonic success with such a moneyball-esque percentage tennis style isn’t good for the entertainment aspect of the game.

Because this is a tennis forum - not "what does a player do in his spare time" forum.

In the last five years Federer has gone way higher in my estimation, and Novak much lower.

With that negative comment out of the way, I love the thread idea, and the way you have focused on putting some positivity into things.

Some of us have been watching these guys for damn near twenty years, and there has been a lot of time for subtle and not so subtle shifts in our opinions of the Big 3 and for us to notice new things that impress us.

Federev you’re definitely one the uniting forces on here and imo this thread is another nice example of you giving credit in a very transparent way. (y)

Being humble is about knowing your true worth. You're invaluable, but not moreso than anyone else and vice versa.

No, he just never quits on a rally, game or match, and usually demonstrates whatever mental fortitude is required to secure the win.

I like both players and couldn't care less about the war. Fed is like a first love, beautiful and pure in his grace. Novak is like the crazy girl you just can't quit because he just finds a way to get it done.
