I am thinking of putting on a tether, or a leash on my racquets

Two weeks in a row now I have gone to serve and had the racquet come out of my hand hard enough to snap the frames. Two racquets are now trashed. I am using new over grips, haven't made any adjustments in my serve motion, yet the racquets just seem to fly out of my hand shattering each time.

Can anyone see why this would be a bad idea? The one I thought I had is that I'd have to see if the fulcrum point would allow the racquet instead to hit me square in the nose or teeth. I could see me trying to save $60 on a racquet only to cost me $1000 on dental work.

Thoughts?!

Replace your grips with a contour grip

Irvin

Hmmm, I figured I was pretty literate in tennis lingo but I have never heard of this. Can you elaborate? (I'll go google around too)

I see it now, one by Wilson and another by Gamma, I don't know if that really solves the issue. I have always used Wilson Pro or Tournagrip depending on how hot or cold and if my hands are sweating.

Maybe some of that golf stick-um stuff for the hands?

You may want to try and slightly building up the buttcap on the end of the racquet with some fabric tape or something similar under your grip. It can help create more of a knob on the end of the racquet.

dude hold you stick like a man... use duct tape and tape you hand to the handle... just kidding man.... use a contoured or even a perorated grip and make the butt cap end of the stick bigger so it wont slip out of your hand

I actually had that same problem for a while during preseason. I just switched overgrips to the gamma dermagrip (previously used the supreme). Trust me and DONT use grip enhancers. they just ruin the grip

I’ve used this one in the past; Gamma. I don’t particularly like a contour grip these days but it should solve your problem. If this doesn’t work your only other option is super glue.

Caloi,

1. For serves, do you hold the racket with pinky off? (Or even just with 3 fingers?)

2. Is the grip too small?

3. Do you try (too much) to be too loose with your grip? (It should tighten naturally during impact....)

Edit:

4. Do you have really sweaty hands? (I had a friend that was trying golf swings in a store, and due to his wet palms, the 7 iron slipped out of his hands, flew 30 feet to the back of the store. Only the handle was showing, sticking out 20 feet high on the store wall.)

Bringing back an old thread here since I'll be on the courts again starting this weekend.

To answer the previous questions, no I don't have sweaty hands, at least not that I'm aware of.

I believe I hold the grip tight enough since it only happens once in a while.

I use 4 1/2" grips with two overgrips which is just right for my long fingers.

So, anyone with any other thoughts?

I was told by a local guy watchign me serve that I was using too much wrist to achieve racquet head speed on my kick serve.

I have spent the winter practicing in my living room to not use my wrist as much...but I thought there was supposed to be quite a bit of wrist in the serve/pronation at the top.

Thoughts?

This is what I was thinking. I just like the feel of it so I do it on all my racquets now. I use gamma head tape. It's easy to tear into narrow strips.

Perhaps the grip is too small for you? I am not a fan of downsizing grips and find that a smaller grip makes it harder to serve effectively without any slipping.

Sounds like you need to make the butt cap area of your racquet larger.

What do you use, a Yonex?

Apply a partial layer of overgrip just over the buttcap area, and then do a full normal layer of overgrip over the entire length of the handle.

A loose grip is good for your serves and strokes, but this way, your racquet would not completely escape your grip.

Good news, I played twice this weekend (first time out since we are very seasonal here) and didn't feel the racquets come loose once.

I did however change from a platform stance to a pinpoint stance this year and am focusing more on that than how tight I'm holding my racquet.

Hopefully I can put all this behind me.

Oh, and I'd read about building up the buttcap last year and implemented that tactic immediately. I'll continue to do it from here on out...
