I can feel it coming—Dimitrov’s first slam imminent

I had this premonition even before the Thiem match.

As soon as I heard that the court is playing as fast as it ever has, I new that Grigor would be in the mix.

Why? He’s one of the top fast HC players on tour when in good form. We saw that when he won Cincy and WTF. He’s mowed down the competition so far and blew up the Thiem hype machine (as a Thiem fan, I feel he’s overhyped currently). He basically has a free pass into the SF, where he may not even have to play Djokovic.

The biggest threat would be Nadal, who owns him in the H2H.

Folks, it’s happening. I can feel it coming!

LOL!

Actually, I'd love to see it happen except for one thing, I'm a bigger fan of someone else. Honestly I love to watch Dimitrov, dang beautiful player with so much talent and natural appeal. For him to go far now would be really exciting! Want to see his next match!
I found myself pulling for Dimitrov against Thiem. Had never rooted against Thiem before.

Nah, his nerves aren't strong enough to win a slam. Medvedev is probably winning this.

I'd love to see him win one. It'd be redemption for him and would silence so many of the critics and haters he has. He'll never live up to the expectations he had as a youngster but going out as a slam winner, WTF champion, and masters champion is a damn good career maybe even a hall of fame one.

Dimitrov has a weak one-handed backhand waiting to be exposed by Nadovic.

80-90% of Dimitrov's backhand shots are defensive slices.

Grigor can't really have haters, can he?

That would be cool!!!

He won’t have to play peak versions though.

Yeah but they would still be pretty tough to beat, can he take one set or two? Probably he could at his best, but win, that's an other story. He is a dark horse but I put Tsitsipas, Medvedev and Zverev (maybe not Rublev because he has not a lot of experience still) before him

How many player(s) won the grand slam by beating 2 out of the big 3 on the way in the past 18 years? Stan Wawrinska 2015 RG where he took out Fed and Djokovic, AO 2014 when he took out Djokovic and Nadal. Del Protro (2009 USO) where he took out both Nadal and Federer.

Thiem came close last year in 2020 AO but no cigar. Being close does not count. It is not goingto happen for Grigor. He is neither Stan nor DelPo.

On this court a good slice BH is devastating so that is a huge advantage for Dimitrov. If he makes semis he is dangerous as he has been there before and at his age it may be his last chance. Would not write him off at all

He’s going to be better than both!
I believe!

Only if he can avoid Big 2. Even Med and Zedbot will be tough tasks for him. But no way he is beating Nadal or Djokovic in Slam.
