I can't decide going for 1HBH or 2HBH

Hey guys. I don't no what to do with my backhand. I've just start playing tennis this year and i'm good for a newby (i played a little bit of squash before).
I sarted to play with a PD and i develop 1HBH and my cross court with topspin it's great (for a rookie), but i have problems going down the line with 1HBH. Now i switch my racquet for a PK5g (got TE) which is heavier and i started playing 2HBH cos of the weight. For my surprise, going down the line with 2HBH was pretty good but my 2HBH cross court sucks.
Having in mind that i'm left handed, going down the line its better for me to push my oponnents (always right handed) but in the other hand, my 1HBH corss court is maybe my best shot (i got to get used to the weight of my PK5g for doing it good again but i think that's not gonna be the problem).
So guys............IYO..........should i go for 1HBH or 2HBH????????????

Depending on how fast you are improving, since you've just been playing a year, you should most likely stick with a 2HBH until you get a solid technique, unless you feel you could equally go both ways (1HBH, 2HBH), then I would suggest you go with a 1HBH because it give you more variety potential and reach.

I think it depends mostly on what you want to do with your game in the long run. A power player, I would advise to use a twohander. Everyone else, what JLBAYERR said.

I recently switched to 1 hd and it feels awesome. I get the same loose slingshot like feeling i do with my forhand. It took me a while to get used to it and my arm is still adjusting I recently developed these muscles near my elbow.

I really suggest staying with a Two handed backhand until you are absolutely sure you can power up on the One Hander. With the 2HBH, develop the cross-court shot!

It is a safe and reliable shot you need and must have. When going cross-court you will go through the lower part of the net and thats the "higher" percentage as what Pat Mac keeps saying on TV.

Also try to keep the 2HBH compact. When you have a compact backhand, you will be able to have earlier preparation.

Overall, I think you should go with whatever feels the best to you. The one you think you will have the best success with later. But all things being equal, I think the one-hander is a better shot to have. It sounds like you are quite capable of hitting it decently and are comfortable doing so. I think the reason you may be having a hard time going up the line with the one-hander is because you are not stepping in enough and shifting your weight forward through the shot. If you just have a semi-open stance and let the racket do the work, it will go cross court. You have to force the racket forward and drive the ball straight. Doing so means stepping in more.

The one hander is a real man's shot. One hander all the way!

Thats such a biased statement...You don't have to have a one hander to be a real man. For god sakes, you might have a one hander and you must be a down right puss...

And personally, I think that the one hander is definately not the way to go seeing the thread maker said specificially he started this year.

I truely believe you have to have played atleast 2-4 years before going with the one handed backhand UNLESS you are truely talented and you feel better with one hand.

Why would you intentionally learn the two-hander first only to knowlingly switch to one hand later? As others have noted on this forum, it can take a long time to switch from one to the other if you are very used to the first. I think it is fine to start off with the one-hander if he is comfortable and capable with it.

One handed backhand for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONE hand, you will have a lot of flexability.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONE all the way, its good on the long run.

This makes no sense at all. Why would you play 2 to 4 years with a 2 hander and decide you'd like to switch?

The 2H requires much less work to have something good, which is why it's more popular. You'll have more time to work on the rest of your game.

I still like to rip 1H crosscourt sitters for fun, but I can't use it against players who kick the ball up around my shoulders. It's no fun to slice the whole match or try to use topspin and make a lot of UE's. That is the main reason I'm a 2H.

With 2H, I find that it's much easier to handle players who hit flat or with heavy spin. With 1H, it seems that timing is more critical and isn't adjusted as easily. High balls are the biggest problem for one handers. Play someone who has heavy kicker to your 1H and tell me how much fun it is.

Look, no one is going to fault you regardless of whether you use a 1BH or 2BH. Use whatever is comfortable for you and gives you higher percentage shots.

I use a mix of both 1BH and 2BH in my games.

That's pretty much what it comes down to. I do the same thing, use both.

NOOOO!!! 2H is the BEST!!! lol. Just kidding. Yeah, it's just preference. You'll figure it out with experience.

I tried to do both last year for topspin drives (mostly what I hit), but that made me indecisive at times during a match. It's important to know what you're gonna use during pressure moments. I still use a 1H for body/foot shots, but does that really count? <- It's more like a block or slice, which is handy as well.

I used a 1h for 3 years, about a year ago I switched to a 2hb. It just came down to the 2h allowing me to be somewhat out of position, and still beable to hit it.
