"I don't care, I'm going to win" - Nadal after being told of roof closure for RG Final

Why wouldn't he be confident? He was only 12-0 in finals at that point. I don't know why so many people were picking Djokovic anyway like a change of balls would cause such a dramatic difference. Clay is still clay and Rafa is by far the best on it. They need to stop talking so much about this match though months later, like the 13th time was that much of a shock. They're going to end up jinxing Rafa in June when it's time to do it again.
After all the comments from Djokovic fans that the 2015 meeting proved who is the better RG player and how Djokovic beat peak Nadal in straight sets? Of course Djokovic was the big favorite. This is why the likes of Nadal_Django are so angry, they were sure it was going to be a repeat of the 2015 match.

I really like that picture... When a great champion like that shows pure joy, it really gets me.

Better for me than when they go all "aggressive-crazy-monster" thing - or whatever.

Nothing beats pure joy. There is an honesty and a humility and a dignity in the zeal that just really gets to me.

Like Fed's AO17 win. He couldn't even believe it - like most of his fans.

With Rafa it was less unbelief - no one should be surprised that he wins RG - but there were many questions and aspects going against him this year. He spoke about it. Even Novak explicitly alluded to this year being harder for Rafa earlier in the tournament.

Rafa was clear he did not feel it was the best situation for him. So I am sure he felt extra pressure and nerves at times leading up to the final.

But it must have been such a joy to get the final and realize - he crushed it.

He is so happy.

Great photo.

“He keeps going. No holding him back, it seems like. It’s amazing. I mean, I admire all his achievements, especially the one here,” said Djokovic, who had won his last five Grand Slam finals.

“There’s not much you can say,” Djokovic said. “All the superlatives that you can use, he deserves them.”

“Rafa has proven everybody wrong,” Djokovic said. “That’s why he’s a great champion.”

Well honestly, Moya comes off quite arrogant. Even from the smug look always on his face when he is sitting in the stands. He annoys me just as much as Ivanisevic. But yea, not good to gloat too much because it can come back to bite.
Did Djokovic ever have been such gloat after a win against Nadal!? He had fair share of those, especially in the last decade!? Don't remember tbh, but he had plenty of chances. The behaviour from the Nadal's camp in the past few months leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

It's classic example of how not to behave after a big win against one of your biggest rivals. So much gloating, so much arrogance. Almost 3 months after the match and they are still talking about this match, rubbing it in the face of Djokovic. Lol
Even Federer was showing more humility during his Slam winning period. o_OAt least he was more respectful towards Roddick and Hewitt, that's for sure. Crazy stuff from the Spaniards. 8-B
That wasn't respect, that was pity.

So Djokovic serving in the 35% range for a set and a half is the best he can play? Lol. You sound ridiculous. We know Nadal is the best on clay and would win anyway but no need to embellish. The match was 3 months ago and I have no desire to talk about the same match that has been beaten to death on this site.
50 + UEs in 26 games. Obviously Peak Djokovic. 8-B

That's cool.

I bet the Big 3 would die laughing at the trash on here thrown by all the camps.

They may not love each other, but I am sure they all have a lot more respect for each other.

Well how else were the points going to end?
They couldn't win with Djokovic's winners, because Nadal was retrieving like a freak.
I remember noticing that Djokovic was hitting insanely hard, and I was amazed that Nadal was able to control the points when many of those balls would usually have beaten Nadal.
Make no mistake, Djokovic would have beaten everyone else in the draw that day.

Yes, because this is the first match between them in which Nadal is retrieving like a freak. 8-B

Wow - this whole thread for you - take a look at your posts.

it's like you hate Federer more than you like Nadal.
What’s there to like when he tosses the bottle like an arsehole to the poor ball boy servants that run mindlessly like bunnies to deliver him towels and tennis balls?

That you would bring it up in a thread that has nothing to do w Federer - just like your first post here.

It's just strange to me that in a post about Nadal and Djokovic, your move is to go after Fed.

Like I said - it's like you hate Federer more than you like Rafa.

Says the poster who started the whole "Djokovic Open" nonsense...

read the prior responses. Look at what MeatTornado wrote

Now it all makes sense why Rafa skipped USO: he was injured.

The Rome defeat is now understandable.

And it explains why he seemed subpar during the first 4-5 rds, as i wrote in a thread back then.

So, lets rehabilitate Strongrule, shall we ?

Except for Madrid 2011? At least that was right after the match though and not months later.

I saw it. He didn't trash Rafa or Novak.

As if tossing a water bottle to a kid running to the court-net ends is this obvious arrogant thing.

And your very first post was to bring in Fed.

You keep hammering on him here.

Anyway, that's all.

Don't want to keep going back and forth.

I don't think beating Djokovic is the main point here. It's more about how Rafa believed he could handle that tough situation.

He was obviously implying that Federer isin’t necessarily “arrogant” in the public’s eyes. Anyone with half a brain can see that Federer is way more arrogant than your average tennis player though.

it’s like claiming that “the public can decide whether a lemon is sour or not”

obviously it’s damn sour

I'm good man.

peace.

Arrogance is almost a requirement to reach the top of the mountain. Very few at the top are not arrogant once they reach the top. It doesn't show until having reached the peak, but it was there all along.

Remember Djokovic needed 10-8 5th Set to beat Nadal at Wimbledon 2018 with the roof closed.
So it makes no sense for Djokovic to beat Nadal at Roland Garros regardless of the roof.

I don't think anything Rafa said about winning 2019 RG was arrogant. He said the exact same thing during the rain delay at Wimbledon 2008, when he told Toni in the locker room before the fifth set, "I am not going to lose this match," and then went out and won it.

As a Fed fan, I really wish Roger had possessed Rafa's killer mindset throughout his career, he'd be sitting on 27 slams at this point. All credit to Rafa for being mentally a beast throughout much of his career.

The Roland-Garros 2020 final is the most important match in tennis history legacy-wise.

In case Djokovic had won, he would be only 1 Slam behind Nadal with the AO coming next and being the favorite in the Slam/GOAT race. Nadal knew he could not fail, for the Grand Slam record was in play. No failure was allowed. And he acted like a King, the King of tennis, crowned with the Grand Slam record.

He did have that killer mindset - during the time of Roddick. Harder to keep that mentality against Rafa, Nole, and Murray.
