Rafa was just unlucky to play Novak who was having the best 12 months of his life. Rafa would have beaten anybody else on that night.

At the end of the day, Rafa is the best clay courter of all time, and novak is the best all-rounder of all time

What you wrote makes Djokovic look even worse because outside of RG according to how some people act he should be at least 7-1 too but he’s only 5-3. It just shows that even without RG it’s close enough.
Fed is 4-4 outside of RG with Rafa. That is the definition of "close enough"

That 30-15 backhand miss was the worst and most consequential miss of Rafa's career. At least with Nadal's break points 5th set 2018 W SF, Djokovic earned those points. 2012 miss was a choke because he had such a good look that it threw him off.

That's some impressive mental gymnastics there, bud. Gold medals await in Tokyo for performances like that!

Of course in reality, Djokovic leads both Fed and Nadal in H2H, dominates Fed in Slam H2H, and leads Nadal in the Slam H2H off clay. Facts can be tough for your feelings sometimes.

Lol the very close 2012 AO or 2018 W matches would have made it 4-4 or 5-3 in favor of Nadal. Like I said Djokovic record of 5-3 is not that great. The way his fans brag about him you would think he’s 7-1 or 8-2 against Nadal outside of clay.

The bottom line is it’s 10-6. :giggle:

As for Federer he is a legend and older than both so don’t bring him up because you can’t defend Djokovic.

Djokovic leads the Slam H2H off of clay 5-3.

Nadal leads the Slam H2H off of hardcourt 8-3, he also leads the slam H2H off of grass 9-4 and he leads the slam H2H overall 10-6.

You have zero arguments by using that off of clay, as Nadal wins the off of everything else. Don’t quit your day job... 8-B

Major difference: grass and HC are actually real surfaces that people care about

I don’t think I could ever feel bad for Federer, Nadal or Djokovic after any of their defeats, given how much they’ve won across the board !

As has been said, this match and the RG semi-final in 2013 were basically mirror images of each other.

In this match Djokovic was clearly the better player (more winners, fewer UEs, more points won, more breaks of serve), should have finished it off in 4 sets, fell down a break in the 5th set, and fought back to deservedly win it.

In their RG semi-final the following year, Nadal was clearly the better player by a comfortable distance, should have finished it off in 4 sets, fell down a break in the 5th set, and fought back to deservedly win it.

Or it shows how one dimensional Rafa is.

I think it's best we leave the final comparisons for once they are both retired.

The bottom line is he could never win at the AO and only won at Wimbledon via retirement.

Nadal toyed with Djokovic and made him suffer breaking him into pieces so Djokovic had to retire at the end because he couldn’t even manage to walk anymore because of the destruction. That’s what BauerAlmeida was referring to.
So Djoker couldnt physically keep up.

A match that should have been over in 4 sets but much like Djokos fight back in RG 13 it turned out to be several more hours of contest. These 2 matches are very similar in that regard.

They are literally mirror matches. A dumb mistake even decided both matches.

Djokovic was just a tad better than him that day. He fought hard and almost beat Novak in an Australian Open final.

In 2017, he was as good as Federer but needed the match closed in 4 sets but Federer had come for a war and it went to 5 sets and fatigue set (that Dimitrov 5 setter!!) in, and Federer played with no fear at all and deservedly won the final.
