I feel extremely drained after exercising

My workout consists of power lifting (Starting Strength) and HIIT. Sunday is my rest day. For some reason after doing exercise, I feel extremely drained. I put in 100% effort into all my workouts and of course I feel a bit tired afterward. But a few hours later it just hits me, severe fatigue. To the point where I just want to hit the bed and sleep.

This winter break I've been sleeping for around 8 hours every night and eating 6 small meals a day. If it matters, this is the first week that I started exercising after taking a 1.5 month break.

So what's up? It just really sucks. I lifted weights today at about 4pm. Its 8:52pm now and I REALLY want to sleep, soo tired. I don't even have the energy to go out. I used to feel so energized and pumped after my workouts, now I'm just burned out.

I think you need to find a good doctor to examine you. I know it sounds like a lame advice, but I remember you from your other threads, and all this fatigue doesn't sound right. Only other thing I can think of, if you're taking any medication, consider stopping and see how you feel then.

Doing SS and HIIT on your other days (excepting sunday) is a lot

It sounds like you're just doing too much. Maybe drop some HIIT sessions, or take a week to rest.

What you're describing sounds like "overtraining" and whether or not you believe it exists, it definitely sounds like you need a break

Yeah, scale it back & see if it makes a difference. If you can't adjust you're overdoing it.

I have the same thing from time to time. I don't work out intensely like you, but I have definitely had periods where, a couple hours after strenuous activity, I completely drained. This will happen to me over a 5 or 6 day period, then disappear. I think I had this happen twice over the past year. I am older, and have annual physicals, bloodwork etc etc and everything seems normal. My guess is that I am pushing my body too much and need the rest to recover. Nutrition, sleep and "rest days" are all part of the answer, IMO.

"Overtraining" definitely exists, it's just that most people will never push themselves anywhere close to this overtrained state (actually, "under-recovered" would be a better term than overtraining).

OP, you didn't say exactly what those 6 meals consist of, but I would bet that you aren't eating enough. When you're training this much, "healthy" doesn't always mean low calorie. You need more calories to aid the recovery process.

Why not just stay in and sleep? There is a big recovery cycle that has to be completed after your workouts. See it through and you'll be better off for it

Hard to say what it is. Have you increased the amount of work you do now compared to what you were doing? Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint. I just did a pullups workout in the morning, and I feel whipped. Nothing has really changed much as far as my program, but my middle back feels stressed and I feel sleepy. Most days I feel like I didn't workout. Maybe I ate too much. I had about a chicken cutlet and a half, small bowl of cereal, cup of hot chocolate and two small oranges. Who knows. Worry when it becomes chronic, like a month straight.
