Don't get me wrong. He wants this badly.
But all of his life he is behind Roger. Same with Novak.

I think his mind just learned to live is in this dimension. Since tennis is more than 50% mental sport, any change can have bad coincidences..

Sorta like Murray, ever since he defeat Djokovic at WTF 2016 he just vanished.

I don't think that is the case with Nadal. I think if you watch the way he has been playing in the Open it is with a fierce determination I've never seen before. Nadal doesn't fear Roger and I think he even has the edge in all time head to head. However, I do think Roger has a mental block playing Djokovic. I think he sees Novak on the other side of the net and subconsciously doesn't believe he can win. He's lost too many huge matches to him.

I doubt Nadal loses to Berritini, then he has one more match, either against a banged up Medvedev or Dimitrov. Dimitrov is playing well and can trouble Nadal, but only if he plays full out and get past the nerves of playing in his 1st Grand Slam final.

Even if this was true, Berettinni/Dimitrov/Medvedev are all much more scared of playing him than he is of passing Roger.

Even if he tries to lose this weekend, he'll be holding the trophy on Sunday.

Why would they be scared of playing him? Nobody expects them to win anyway.

I actually can see Nadal making it to 19, and then of all GS suddenly feeling the pressure the most in RG and losing there because of nervousness. ^^

Don't be fuqing ridiculous. Nadal always plays like a mad dog, 1st round or finals. That's why he's dearly loved by his ridiculous crazy rabid fans.

I agree. Rafa will lose this finale. He will be too nervous. And Medvedev has huge confidence after reaching his 4th consecutive finale.

The Russian will be no 1 in less than a year, and Novak and Rafa will struggle to get anywhere close to 20.

Are you sure vive? That would mean you are signing away a denadalization.
i know... but if it means he never plays another match, the deal is really tempting.

that being said, an immediate and definite retirement following a loss tonight has to be the best option

I think Rafa will prove you wrong today, he's less impacted by pressure than any man in the history of sport :)
If Rafa finds himself in a 5th set, he'll figure it out, because playing for #19 is exactly what he's ready for.
