I find Ben Shelton's mannerisms annoying

Unnecessary grunting, pumping himself up after really non-consequential points, shaking off good points from his opponent with silly smiles...oh and the obligatory putting his finger to his ear...Carlos does most of this too but it seems a little more annoying coming from a frat boy...
Why so serious. The guy Shelton himself is not serious. He still plays like he in college..showmanship and more.
But I never saw him as intense or disrespectful.

One day he will mature up..give him time

You really hate him, do you. None of these look bad to me. I still prefer a young Fed over Shelton any day. Actually I prefer FAA over Shelton any day
The media had been giving false images of Federer. He's not a nice guy behind the mask.

Young Fed threw his racquet in a tennis academy and it ripped the curtain on the court. He also threw a PlayStation controller out of the room when he lost a game lol.

What's wrong with Shelton Benjamin?

I wouldn't be surprised if you are right. Shelton style just isn't my cup of tea.

don't like it either :cautious: but at least his game isn't a bland copy-pasted item made from the tour mold, which is refreshing :)
and it's not specific to him: i can't stand the 'medieval testosterone rage' antics we've been observing on the tour since the mid 2000's......

wow... a kid who got frustrated? it happens?
(how come he's never been incarcerated for that?)

Those things I mentioned, I read about it in the book about Federer.

I saw live on TV when Federer yelled "Sh*t" very very loudly when he hit an error, and then he smiled while glancing at Tursunov. This guy feels like he's entitled to do whatever he likes, he thinks he's above the rule.

When he was first breaking through, I wasn't a huge fan due to said mannerisms. However seeing him in interviews, along with being very cordial at net after losses, I've changed my tune quite a bit. Taking a look at college tennis, as @Bill Lobsalot said, you realize just how much those guys try to pump themselves and their teammates up with big celebrations, totally different vibe. I feel like Ben has brought that along with his own personality to the tour. Plus I'm starting to realize that I'm just becoming an old fart.

Same. I ripped into him for the phone hang up thing. Seems silly AF looking back. Even Novak should be embarrassed for doing it to him.

he seems genuine and not putting up a show based on a PR consultant.

Like that tiebreaker point where he crashed into the sideboard. I thought he could be hurt and the pushups were spontaneous fun rather than something planned.

I dont give him much chance vs Sinner but appreciate his fighting spirit.

true, but johnson, isner and giron also played college tennis, without the annoying yelling and habits. sheltons „personality“ is just a perfect fit to the „competitive culture“ (to put it nicely) of college tennis.

being loud and in your face doesn‘t mean you have „personality“. i have to agree that all the players with „personality“ like paire, bublik, kyrgios and moutet are kind off fun to watch, but because of their games and not their behaviors between points. the game of the player has to do the talking, if i want stupid drama i watch wwe.

I have no problem with cocky and arrogant players. In fact i have an affinity for them. The problem with Shelton is that he's nowhere close to having achieved enough to pull it off without him looking likena clown. Talking trash to a guy with 23 slams? Beat him once, just a single time and i'll gladly put up with your shenanigans. Until then save that stuff for guys at your level
