Ok, so I've had this decade long quest to get away from my POGs. I gave up for a couple of years and like any good addict, I went out and bought 3 more POGs. Fast forward a couple of years and I'm back trying to change.

So, back to the semi-trusted Prince Diablo. It's got pretty much similar specs to the POG cept for the softer handle. I still haven't experimented with changing out the grip to a leather one to see if I would feel different. It just doesn't swing the same. It feels more dead than a 20 year old POG. Well maybe not dead, but muted. I was doing ok with the Diablo so I decided to really venture out and got the Babolat Pure Storm LTD. Handle still feels a bit different. Didn't think I'd mind it being a bit underpowered but it seems even more underpowered than the POG. Maybe I just need to reduce the tension.

I just go back to the same thought though. If I'm searching for racquets with the same flex, same headsize, same beamwidth, same weight and similar swing speed to the POG then how are these racquets better than the POG? Maybe I should stick with the POG and concentrate on strings. Poly gives me tennis elbow so maybe more multifilament experimenting is in order.

What I don't like about the POG is that I'm mishitting a bit more (I usually mishit every now and then but it seems to be increasing) so figured I slightly larger headsize from 93-95 was in order. It's starting to feel a little heavy so I wanted to get something 2.-.4 ounces lighter. The Pure Storm LTD fit that bill but no plow through.

I give up.

Never give up!

Somewhere out there, is a racquet that was made for you. You just have to find it...or tweak the heck out whatever equipment you have now, until it works for you :)

I went through about a dozen honeymoon phases but I'm back to my trusty blade tour now. Stick with the POG if it works for you, who cares how old it is, so long as you have fun and make your shots. I played 2v1 with my hitting partners using an old Jack Kramer Autograph, and I had an absolute blast!

Just curious.. what's your issue with the POG that makes you want to change?

More mishits with the small headsize and it's getting a bit heavy for my aging body. Maybe I should just hit the gym and get glasses :)

It was my understanding that newer, slightly bigger racquets had larger sweet spots. I was tired of off center shots twisting the racquet up. Yeh, I know .. I should hit better but a small bit of improvement from new technology would be helpful.

The other thing was that it's a really open string pattern which is supposed to generate monster spin. I hit with a friends older dense spring pattern racquet and it generated a heck of a lot more spin but it could have been the string so I'm going to buy the same string he had to try it out.

I also used to string the POG at around 72lbs but after suffering from a couple of tennis elbow issues I have it down to 60lbs so it's just a little all over the place right now. Figured a denser bed would also give me some more control.
