I hate orthodics

Fintft

G.O.A.T.
First my knee hurt, then I pulled a groin. I can still feel both.

Going back to my regular Dr Scholl's active insoles (gel with plastic reinforcements in the arch), to see if I can still feel the groin and the knee. In general my movement is not great in them and I also tire easier.
Mind you I did walk in them for many hours and had some easier practice as well, after taking them back to the podiatrist to "losen them up". The feel too raised in the arch.

Try this: Put Dr Scholls Float on Air insoles in your shoes. Then underneath the Float on Air, put the Dr Scholls Heel & Arch (3/4 foot length insole). Only costs about $25 total. It is amazing for me, I think it's probably as good as a custom orthotic. But I've never tried a custom orthotic, I might try one in about a month if my new health insurance from my new job will pay for it.

I've used my Dr Scholls for years and they were fine. The orthodics were reccomended after a bout of plantar fasciitis, but I am not sure about them yet. Will revert for at least today's singles.

Same shoes or did you try something new? The shoe manufacturers always feel the need to change their models. Every now and then, I'm forced to try a new model shoe that just isn't right for me and causes plantar fasciitis symptoms. Once I decide to ditch the shoe and try something else, then it goes away.

Same shoes, more weight.

i use and have tried many many orthotics... i'm flat footed.
even did the barefoot thing + zero drop shoes with the idea that it would build up my arches (imo hasn't worked)
these days i've settled in on a strat of getting the "right amount of arch support"...
too much, and my ankle feels like it's gonna roll/pinky toe starts to kill me...
too little (no ortho), my inside ankle starts to hurt which "travels" to my knee eventually...
using superfeet otc orthotics... atm settling on the black

I have a low arch and had some custom carbon fiber orthotics made when I was in college, after wearing sandals daily. The podiatrist said, you'll never want to walk around w sandals again. He was right.

After getting those custom orthotics stolen, another pair chewed by my pups, I'm using over the counter tread labs carbon fiber insoles for low arches. They're almost perfect (a little too low). I don't buy their replacement insoles, but just stick the carbon plate underneath the insoles in my shoes. I've had them for about 2 years now.

When these wear out, I'm going to take a mold of my feet and lay up my own carbon fiber orthotics.

lol you just cost me a couple hundred $ :P
tx for sharing

I meant custom orthotics. Otherwise it's insoles.
i kinda agree, but to be fair, i didn't go the custom ortho route because i was unconvinced of their cost to value ratio, though i've probably spent as must testing many otc insoles

I got some upsteps and they are at least partially responsible for curing my plantar fasciitis. I've done other stuff too (stretching, etc.) but the upsteps have helped, I think, and are way more durable than insoles. I've been wearing them about 6 months now and they show no signs of wear/breakdown.

What helped my groin pull (at least starting today), was playing with my....Tom Cat. Did all kind of stretches that way( b/c I have to wait another week to see the physio) and felt better, almost perfect on the court just now.
I've replaced the custom orthos for now, going back to insoles also b/c I kept feeling my knee with the former.

Gel is no good, it feels soft but it actually doesn’t compress that much, it’s heavy but my knees hurt the most with gel insoles, they give about a .2 an inch and they it’s a rock. Foam insoles are much better imo

a) I change mine periodically, at least twice a year
b) They have plastic reinforcement in the arch
c) Tried a bunch and only liked Dr Scholl's active, have you tried them?

I have had knee issues for 20+ years so I’ve tried those and custom and everything in between but it’s like tennis strings and rackets I guess everyone is different and It’s personal but from a scientific pov I feel like gel gets really hard after the first few mm of impact.

Are you flat footed or have collapsed arches? If you are flat footed I don't think anything can help to build up the arches. But if they are collapsed exercise can definitely help. Since I have been doing some exercises nowadays I get no knee pain even though I don't wear any special insoles. I used to get knee pain almost everyday before.

you taught me something new :)
i think i have flat feet, so maybe i can't do anything build them up, and make sense that zero drop shoes haven't been "building up my arches"..
i guess i'm stuck with orthotics (custom or otc).

Only got a bit of knee pain with the new custom orthodics, but none after I gone back to the Dr Scholl's Active insoles myself.
I used to have flat foot as a child, it has gone better with sports.

i just presumed i ruined mine from my skateboard days...

I've been playing in GP turbos, but they're going to be nearly impossible to get at some point. I was thinking about cutting out the full length zoom air unit, but you can buy them on the bay for less than $20. Just stuck some into my Hokas to walk around in (over my carbon arch supports, under the Hoka insoles):
GP turbo Hokas!

I'm going to use them in all my shoes. If you want cushion, this is it.

I actually like Mizunos more for tennis, but I couldn't get over the cushioning in the GP turbos. Now I can have the best of both worlds.

I also get knee pain with the cheap orthotic insoles I recently bought. I don't have any problem with my powerstep pinnacles though. It might be the orthotics.

depending on the orthotic, i will get some knee pain, but i always thought it was because i chose an orthotic that too dramatically changed the orientation of my foot/ankle/knee alignment
solution (for me) was usually to go with a milder change of arch support
another issue i've had was when choosing an aggressive arch support, was when playing tennis, my pinky toe would get jammed into the side of the sneaker (not sure if i should go with a wider sneaker maybe), but if just runnign striaght, it would be fine..

Update: my son tried the zoom air units in his Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour 6s and said he liked the cushion but his arch hurt. He has normal arches. He put the air unit under the Mizuno insoles. I think they might have added too much height under his arches.

I have high arches and I overpronate especially on my right side. I’m also prone to plantar fasciitis. The custom orthotics have stopped the PF completely and does a good job at keeping my feet from overpronating.

But I do wonder if there are some other unknown side effects of wearing them 100% of the time. Besides a lighter wallet.

My PF healed on its own with some stretching although the podiatrist has indicated that the custom orthotics would solve some of my arch related problems.
I am not wearing them in my tennis shoes now, only for long walks. Will try running on dirt soon.
