Hmm....I'm thinking this should be in the RANTS and raves but whatever! I don't play XBOX so can you explain what a 'ring of death' is?

The three rings of death just happened with my xbox 360 recently I won't be playing again for a few weeks or up to a month. It's the second time this has happened and fortunately I'm under warranty.

its ******** i dont even play enough to get it.the ring of death is basically when ur xbox freezes and instead of the green on it theres three red lights basically telling u u just got screwed.supposibly its if u play it to much at a time and all.but i doubt thats the main reason.im so pissed i even switched from sony to it

Why are you so pissed if you're only a casual gamer? You don't even play that much, so why is the wait such a huge problem? You're under warranty, and there is no cost for postage. I don't see why you'd be so angry. I'm on my third XBox 360, and another guy here said he's on his sixth.

Yeah it's happened to me too, no big deal.

You get it back in a few weeks and often get a free month's subscription to xbox live so it's ok.

Just find something else to do with your free time like read a book, you might learn something :)

After the same thing happend to me, I took it back to Best Buy. I got my brand new one sold it on Eb@y, and I used that money to get me a Sony PS3. Now I'm as happy as a clam. So long Microsoft. It's been nice knowing you.

Totally agree with you dude, he should be happy that Microsoft made a console with a insanely high failure rate, not pissed.

Not to me. It sounds like a complete pain in the *** if you have to keep sending them back. I would just want one that would work.

I used to use it maybe 2-3 hours a week, but mine has gotten the ring of death twice now. I doubt I'll bother with microsoft anymore.

red ring death happens when you have a defect in your xbox. basically it breaks and the controller ring on the front of the box flashes 3 redlights.

im on my third one right now and my second power cord. worst part about it is that microsoft outsourced there customer service so icant understand a word that there saying. it took 3 phone calls and 1 nasty call to get an american to finally talk to me. then i finally got my problem resolved.

Microsoft designed the console with inadequate cooling. The parts overheat and eventually die.

Over time, the chips have been moved to smaller processes which makes them run cooler so the failure rate has dropped. The first models had a failure rate that's so high it's hard to believe.

The XBox 360's reliability is even worse than Windows ME's. I never thought the company would top that one. Maybe it should start making ATMs?

He was being sarcastic. But really, Lakoste. What is he to be angry for? Because he's out of a console for a few weeks to a possible month? He said he's a casual gamer.

That's true. It could have been worst. The OP could have gotten the red ring of death just outside of the warranty period (just like my brother) in which case he should be beyond pissed. Ah, good ole Microsoft. Gotta love em.

There's still hope for your brother. I got a first gen 360 and it red ringed outside the warranty period, but I decided to RMA it anyways. They charged me around $220 for a new one and an extended warranty. The good news is I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance.

Just kidding. They actually sent me a reimbursment cheque, so it didn't cost me anything. I can't remember if I had to pay for the extended warranty, but I know they covered the majority of the costs. This was months later, though. That's why I'm actually not angry with Microsoft for anything. The only thing I've lost is the time that it took to send the broken 360 to them, and get the new one.

I bought a used 360 and haven't called Microsoft to activate the warranty or anything. Should I do that now or just wait and call if anything breaks on it? I have no idea how old it is, but I think it's one of the newer generation models.

yeah well just cause im a casual gamer doesnt mean me spending 600 dollars for it and a few games last winter doesnt mean i should have to get it replaced all the time when i dont even use it that much and that shouldnt make it my fault.im 17 and it took me freakin two months to save up for the dam thing.between that and putting money in the bank and gettin tennis stuff it took a long time.if i get it fixed im selling it and hopefully saving to get a ps3.

He should be angry that his console isn't working like it should be. That was a dumb question. Also, casual gamer doesn't have a straight-forward definition. I think a casual gamer is someone who plays fairly regularly, but isn't hardcore enough to play hours on end in a clan or something. You might think he plays once a week for an hour, who knows.

I fail to see how it was a dumb question. What has he lost besides a bit of time gaming? You don't seem to reinforce your points, so I have to keep asking you questions.

You're saying he shouldn't be pissed, I think he has every reason to be pissed. I don't see the point in arguing with a x360 fanboi any longer, peace.

Once again, you've failed to respond to my direct question to you, and you've also neglected to expand on your statements in any way. And here we see the 'fanboy' accusation being put into place once again. Sorry to disappoint you, but anyone with an opinion that differs from yours is not necessarily a 'fanboy'. Your miserable arguments suffer. You're right, there really is no point in arguing with someone such as yourself that is not willing to expand on his opinions, or even to respond to my question. Peace, fool. Initially, I actually thought that you were one of the more sensible posters on this board. I was wrong.

My favorite Xbox joke:

They call it a 360 because when you're about to buy it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk back out the door.

Wait but then you'd be walking to get it anyway since you'd be facing the same direction???

This joke is too complex for me..

Yeah, Microsoft is up in Washington. I highly doubt that they do everything there. Your Xbox was probably made somewhere in Asia.
