for shedding their corporation of Halep!
Are you so sure it was such a mistake? They still have other slam winners. It's a business calculation, they decided they wasn't worth what she was asking.
At the moment women's tennis is a bunch of one-two Majors winners with the staying power of a an ice-cream under a scorching sun.
Besides, it takes two to reach a deal, so she might have asked for too much.
This is most likely the case.
I think I read an article or watched an interview or something that Halep was saying dream comes true with Nike deal...
Young Halep never would have lost that contract. Bouchard probably has the biggest contract.
Didnt she just pick up sponsorship?
Ion Tiriac, the tennis ruler of Romania, refused to allow Adidas to low ball her.
It's all about money
Ion could have just bought adidas and given her a contract
Not totally sure it was/is about money. Halep's behavior may be a factor.
It would appear that the younger Halep have them at least two very big reasons to keep her in their garments.
Sure It could be a factor. She is far from a Tomic level ambassador however.
Cash Rulz Everything!
What do you mean?
Seemed to get upset during a match and stop competing IMHO. Negative attitude. Adidas shoulda never got outta the boat,
Yes, "Young Halep" was capable of very heavy serves - both first and second; absolute cannons...
Romania is a small country but tennis is #1 sport in the nation. Not sure the appeal of Halep worldwide, however. Certainly interesting to see how it plays out!
Definitely a business calculation. Somebody mentioned that they wanted to focus on Muguruza instead. Similar story to when adidas dropped Nole to focus on Andy. Djokovic after that exploded and ended up making history wearing the Uniqlo logo on his chest. What I find interesting is that adidas thought she wasn't worth the money and nike said "thank you, I'll take that".
Hoping somebody gets fired for this??? Such benevolence.
Djokovic wore Adidas shoes for each and every part of his "explosion".
^^^ Yes, he did wear the 3 stripes on his feet. Unfortunately for adidas, the footwear usually doesn't show up in those pictures where he's holding the trophy.
And I miss to understand why would you go "explosion". After all, Nole is the first male player since '69 to win 4 majors in a row. If that's not outstanding, I don't know what is.
60 and 0 in 2011
It doesn't matter, if it shows up in the picture with him holding the trophy or not, when the person seeing the picture (supposedly he is a little interested in his apparel) goes to a retailer/shop and sees "Adidas Novak Pro" as his shoe.
Moreover, with sponsor companies unable to deliver a proper shoe, and making copies of the real deal ( like with Murray), It is increasingly obvious that the original company has a competence beyond that of the sponsor, which only elevates its profile in this particular segment (admittedly that is relevant only for the tennis fans).
You can bet that Nike will do everything possible to keep Federer as a shoe customer for that same reason, if indeed he is switching to Uniqlo.
"Explosion" is just too flamboyant.
Nothing against the feat itself or its significance, which is indeed considerable.
Well, it sounded better than "I hope somebody got severely reprimanded up to, but not including the point of dismissal".
Ahh life in the politically correct world......
If someone needs to get fired maybe it was at Puma then Nike,
@Ronaldo, not that I disagree, but I think you just invoked the wrath of @sureshs
@Ronaldo that puma outfit looks good,, and im not a serena fan,, I think she looks good in it.. makes me wanna watch a replay of her match on that outfit..
the nike outfit though,, its BAD.. almost as bad as the pink salmon outfits they brought out this year for the men..
Halep however, looked great in the newly aquired $$ nike pink outfits...
