I just binge watched all 13 Star Trek movies

Have to say, it was quite something to experience. Was never a hardcore Star Trek fan, but going back and watching them all over the past few days gave me a new appreciation for that universe.

Not all the movies were incredible, but some were really good. Best part for me was the three movie arc of 2, 3 and 4. Enjoyed the new ones also.

Any Star Trek fans here? What was you fav.

I couldn't stop laughing at some of the things Captain Kirk was saying! Certainly more of a fan now.

I remember going to the first one when it came out, and being deeply disappointed. 2 through 4 were good. I thought 5 was not good at all. The TNG films were okay to weak. The first of the three re-boot movies was pretty good, the second wasn't bad, and the last one was just okay.
As with most so-called science fiction TV shows and movies, the science is almost non-existent, so you just have to suspend any scientific knowledge to enjoy them.

My favorite Star Trek movie was the movie where they have to go back in time to get down hump back whales in the 1986 Earth to save Earth in the 2300s. It quite shocking to think mankind will be so technologically advance given that we can barely get out of Earth atmosphere and we are in 2021. Using the same rocket technology as that of the 1940s V rocket.

Update: #4 - ST The Voyage Home.

Star Trek The Motion Picture - A bit too slow
Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan - Very good movie, the start of a three movie arc
Star Trek 3 The Search For Spock - Good continuation
Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home - My personal favorite and fantastic conclusion to the three movie arc
Star Trek 5 The Final Frontier - The ending was weak after a promising start
Star Trek 6 The Undiscoverd Country - A very solid entry and final movie for the original cast
Star Trek 7 Generations - More like an extended TV show
Star Trek 8 First Contact - The best of the Next Generation crew of movies
Star Trek 9 Insurrection - More like an extended TV show
Star Trek 10 Nemesis - Could have been better
Star Trek 11 Alternate Reality - A very good prequel with the new cast
Star Trek 12 Into The Darkness - My personal fav of the new trilogy
Star Trek 13 Beyond - Decent movie

Star Trek II is my favorite. Such a great soundtrack. I liked Kirstie Alley a lot better than the gal who played Saavik in III.

I haven't seen any of the next generation movies but I have seen the newer alternate reality movies. I do still watch the original series on Hulu since I liked it a lot as a kid. I didn't really ever get into any of the other offshoots.

Another quote from Star Trek The Voyage Home movie:

James T. Kirk: Mr. Spock, have you accounted for the variable mass of whales and water in your time re-entry program?
Spock: Mr. Scott cannot give me exact figures, Admiral, so... I will make a guess.
James T. Kirk: A guess? You, Spock? That's extraordinary.
Spock: [to McCoy] I don't think he understands.
Leonard McCoy: No, Spock. He means that he feels safer about your guesses than most other people's facts.
Spock: Then you're saying... it is a compliment?
Leonard McCoy: It is.
Spock: Ah. Then I will try to make the best guess I can.

In general, for the original 2 casts, the even numbered ST films have been the best. The possible exceptions are (3) The Search for Spock and (10) Nemesis.

For the reboots, I've not seen Beyond but very much liked the previous 2 films. The very best of ST (TV & films) has been where Khan has been the featured meanie: Space Seed (OTS) and Wrath of Khan with Ricardo Montalban. And then Into Darkness with Benedict Cumberbatch. Montalban is a difficult act to follow but Cumberbatch was up to the task.

Into the Darkness is probably the best from the renewed series. I think the time travelling one about the Whales was probably the best among earlier ones as well.
Some of the earlier films were just remake of the episodes from original TV series I think. I've seen Khan's plot in at least 3 versions , 1 TV episode and 2 remakes.
I must say I love the original Star Trek cast. I watched the ST the original series a while back. It pales in comparison to The next generations plot wise but the drama between the crew , the character interactions were just top notch. It was sad to learn that William Shatner is the only guy alive right now from the original crew. Somebody compared it to the Kirk quote ,' I've always known I'll die alone'. (wasn't meant to be a morbid one , Kirk meant it as a compliment to his friends)

I'm still taking Wrath of Khan over the Whale movie. To be clear, Wrath of Khan was a sequel to the (TOS) Space Seed episode, not a remake of it. An outstanding sequel in my mind. Into Darkness was a pretty loose remake of Wrath of Khan. But, like 'Wrath', 'Darkness' was the best of the ST franchise.

'Tis true that Gene Roddenberry ('91), DeForest Kelley ('99), James Doohan ('05), Majel Barrett ('08) and Leonard Nimoy ('15) have all gone off to some black hole in the sky. But William Shatner, now 89, is not the only major ST character / crew member from TOS still kicking. Last I heard, George Takei (83), Walter Koenig (84) and Nichelle Nichols (88) were still around.

I would agree with you.

Now you have to binge all the Trek series. :)

Agree with System that Wrath is #1 for me, Voyage Home #2. I actually quite enjoyed First Contact, not so much the other TNG movies. Which is a bummer, given the series was excellent. I really enjoyed the Picard series from last year and looking forward o season 2.

Haha....maybe not just yet.

I've caught bits and pieces of the original cast movies, but never watched them start to finish. I never had much of an interest since I didn't watch the original series, so I have no real connection to those characters unfortunately.

I liked The Next Generation (and the whole 90s era), but those movies might as well be in a different universe. They're so radically different from the show, Picard's character in particular.

And I actually just watched Beyond last week. I thought it was okay but it didn't really click with me, same way I felt about the 2009 movie. Never watched Into Darkness.

I'm a closet Trekker, or Trekkie, or something like that. :)

During Covid I watched all the original series, then all of New Generation, and I'm finishing up on Deep Space Nine. I'll watch Voyager next, and even Enterprise, probably the weakest of them all. I'm also caught up on Discovery and Picard. I much prefer Star Trek over Star Wars.

I've also enjoyed all the movies, but I think in general I prefer the series when they work because there is more thought and more time to develop concepts. The weakness is that each episode is only as good as the writers, to the quality is hugely inconsistent in the older series.

I consider myself a Star Trek fan. :)
I've seen all 13 Star Trek movies. As for the series, I've seen all the episodes (in that order) Next Generation, TOS, Voyager and DS9.
Of the movies, I liked The Wrath of Khan, The Voyager Home and First Contact the most. In the overall, TOS movies are better than TNG movies. I don't like Kelvin timeline movies very much. The whole idea, to create a new timeline so we can ignore the time continuity in the Prime Universe, I don't consider as happy.

@sureshs , I have heard you are a UUUGGGEEE Trekkie and you often binje watch frum your Corinthian leather pour saline thrown az Ricky Montalban Khan cruises Uranus with some Charmin searching for Klingons. Is that true?

The greatest mystery of all time, and no Google does not have the correct answer: Were Khan's Abs real?

I've been considering to do the Rocky marathon (including the Creed movies), but afraid to give up when it's time to watch Rocky V.

For me, The Next Generation is the number one of Star Trek franchise. One of the reasons why TNG is best is Patrick Stewart, which is the best actor who has ever starred in Star Trek.
I've gotten a greater appreciation for DS9 after first reading a book about the whole Start Trek cannon in which they talked about DS9 getting more into a continuing stories. This seems to have started late in the series, so instead of wrapping up stories at the end of each episode things go on for quite some time. I like that. I particularly like Garak because he is very much a "gray" character, dark past, mysterious and very complex.

Are you okay, hitman?

You seem to be binging quite a bit of late. ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Haha...

:pYou have given me an idea...And yes it is true, I have done some serious binge watching, the current situation in the world has certainly allowed me to do a lot of that.

For your next sci-fi binge, read either/both "The Foundation Trilogy" series (sequels were added), or the "Dune" series (if you haven't already). Also the "Ender's Game" series is good too.

You're a better man than I am, and with more time. I think I'd have to be paid to do this.

I feel like doing a star trek marathon too.. @Hitman which platform would you recommend? Hoping all these are available at one place and I don't have to scavenge hunt dvds to do the marathon..
