I'm not surprised. Your game is so grooved to one stick that it will take a little time for you to switch over and instantly hit that heavy with anything else. I would venture to guess that you could possibly hit heavier shots with the 7G, but once again it will take time because your stroke is married to that Diablo.

I've been demoing this racquet. I'll stick with it a few more days, but it's been disappointing so far. Maybe, it is due to the extra length, but I am not sure if it is the case.

The general feeling of hitting with this racquet is that it does not seem to bite the ball. I cannot figure out what is the cause of this. Probably, not the swing weight, since I don't have any problem with those with higher swing/or static weight. My strokes even with PS 6.0 85 had better action, let alone 6.1 95's. Not sure it's the extra length. It does demand the adjustment of timing and spacing, still it should not affect the way racquet feels even when the timing and spacing is right. Maybe, caused by crappy strings?

My hunch is that this racquet might be a little too light. Maybe, adding some weight to the upper hoop area might give a little more oomph and better feel. But this might make the racquet too cumbersome with its extra length and big head size. Maybe, this racquet is simply not for me.

What strings are in the demo and how old are they?

If you are used to playing with Wilsons, my guess is that you are used to a stiff frame and it is too flexy for you.

The frame is not really flexy at all. Sure it is not as stiff as other sticks I've hit with but it does not feel like a noodle.

PP, you are absolutely correct, my plan is to keep hitting with it and work my way into it. I love the comfort, the diablo mid is not the most comfortable stick when you hit high up on the string bed.

Yeah it sounds like you have the game and could hit hard with any racquet you like. So if you end up liking the 7G and sticking with it, I would love to hear how things progress a few weeks from now with it.

I simply can not mishit anymore due to wrist tendinitis, and since that is impossible, I thank PK for making this amazing racquet and allowing me to play aggressive still.

Relative to a PS, given its flex rating, it should be a big difference

I don’t know what the string is. There is nothing written on the string, but string itself does not seem worn out too much.

Well, it's possible, but I usually don’t have a problem with a racquet with 66 or less in stiffness rating (e.g., Prestige Pro, Pure storm tour, etc.) And PS 6.0 85 I was talking about is one from the new batch of PS 6.0 85’s whose stiffness is lower than 7G, and 6.1's are not much stiffer than 7G, either. Actually I don’t mind more flexible frames such as Redondos, which seem to be the only frames I liked from PK lines.

Yep no racquet is for everyone. It's just impossible. If you are coming from the Wilson PS, than that is a big change. The 7G is a modern racquet meant for big hitting with spin. I am not sure your stings or tension, but I can give you some reccomendations to try.
Thanks for your offer of recommendation in strings and tension. If I decide to buy one, I'll ask you.

But when you say it doesn't bite the ball, that is interesting because for me it does. The Pro Staffs do have a more open pattern though, and you may prefer that. I personally like to hit deep and through the court and use so much spin naturally that an open pattern can sometimes make it harder for me to do that.
Yeah, it puzzles me, too. I thought the extra leverage should help, but my shots (especially fh) with 7G don’t seem to have the usual weight and spin. I feel I’d be better off by slowing down my usual swing and hitting easier and flatter with this racquet.

One thing I like about this racquet is the serve, which is the main reason I am demoing a longer racquet. I can see the potential for easier pop and higher kick. Maybe I was hallucinating from the crazy heat…. However, I’m not sure it will still be there if I add weight to the upper hoop and increase the swing weight as a result. A little dilemma.

The crazy heat also causes crazy bounces. Yesterday when I stepped on court, my car thermometer said 98 and the balls were flying through the court with ease and spin was more accentuated.

Hey Power Player, Have you played with Organix 10 (295g)? I want to hear comparison between X10 and 7G if you played with.

Thought I would post my initial impressions of the 7g.

I am a former satellite/challenger player who played in the mid 90's, now playing at the 5.0 level. I have been playing with the Prince Diablo Mid for quite some time. There have been many other "flings" along the way, but I always come back to the diablo due to the heavy ball I can hit with it off both sides and the weight and jump I get on my kick serve. My sticks are 360 grams strung, I use Genesis Typhoon at 56 lbs. I've been frustrated in the last couple of years with the very bad quality control coming from Prince, my last batch of racquets were all over the map with weight and swing weight, so I am motivated to find my new weapon.

So I read this thread as well as the feedback for this stick, so I bought one to try. Put leather on it, 10 grams in the handle, and strung it with typhoon at 58 lbs. Hit off the ball machine last night, and I can say I am very impressed. Pace and spin were easy to attain, especially on the forehand, my backhand was fine, but it felt like my hand was on the grip ever so slightly, probably due to the different grip shape. I only hit about 200 balls, but came away impressed both with the performance and the comfort. All in all, I was able to just pick it up and hit good shots right off the bat, which is a good sign.

Tonight I am hitting with my regular hitting partner who was a D1 player in his day, he knows my game as well as anyone, so I am interested in his feedback. I will update tomorrow.

Nice writeup Sparky. i have to totally agree with you on Prince's horrible QC with the latest batch of diablos. I played with the diablo MP for over 3-4yrs and just couldn't get away from themr(modified w lead to 338g) but my last 4 from TW have spec'd out all over the place(6-7g diffference in static unstrung weight) PLUS developed 4 identical hairline cracks in the exact same spots in the throat (TW was awesome as always and sent me 2 new replacements upon the first crack, but the 2 new one began to crack in the same spot just after 2 months and only a handful or so of string jobs). Also--the Diablo, even with lead, was just too unstable and was not helping my ailing GE issues--so tried the PK7g. Definitely took me a little adjusting, but the7g is so much more stable than the Diablo (atleast mine and not your beast)--especially on receiving hard/heavy balls and volleys.

FINALLY getting to play today with my NEW 7g after being on vacation last week. Will report back--

I'm still having trouble dialing in my backhand with this frame which is very unusual. Normally my forehand is frame sensitive but with this stick and my latest B5E/Genesis Thunder Blast setup, I'm crushing forehands all day but don't yet have the confidence to do this on my backhand side very often.

I have the opposite (probably since I hit a 2hander) but I have been dialing up the backhands a lot better lately. Probably the best stick I have owned for the BH. Slices are ridiculous as well.

Just strung up BM and MCS at 56#s.

Tennis Kid, I never played a Volkl.

It seems to me that the QC issues have been getting worse the last couple of years. It's one thing to have static weights that vary by 5-10 grams, but when I get 3 sticks that are 10 pts heavier in swing weight than all of my previous sticks, you start to question whether you want to stay with Prince. I have been playing with this model since 2002, so I have probably had 20+ racquets and this last batch was by far the worst.

If you have ever used the tip weight of a racquet to match various sticks, you know that this is a good measurement to approximate swing weight (along with handle weight). 3 of the 4 new diablo mids I got recently were 5 grams heavier in the tip weight, which affects swing weight tremendously, imagine taking your racquet and put 5 grams of lead at 12 o'clock, makes it much more sluggish and the feel is totally different.

Anyway, rant over:), looking forward to getting to know the 7g, have had some good experiences so far, love the comfort and feel, will have to continue to hit and see if I can get the heavy ball working with this great racquet, really hope I can.

Not having too many issues with the slice, just the topspin 1 hander which is typically my most consistent shot, not necessarily most dangerous. My forehand has been on fire the last 2 matches. I'm normally a guy who just tries to hit heavy spin on the forehand, but I've found my magic combo that just gives me the confidence to finally flatten that sucker out and the results have been pretty good on that wing.

Same story with me and the Black Ace Mid, which shares almost identical weight/swingweight specs to the 7G. Really believe that the closed pattern plus the 330-plus swingweight has made all the difference in flattening out my (often too spinny) forehand.

Yeah Mikeler knows how I hit my forehand, but I'm kind of a hybrid of flat and spin with this racquet as well..I can do either, which is awesome..i usually hit my 2hbh with a lot of top and it is not really a weapon..but it has started to become much more of one with this stick...probably the XL helps with that. My forehand can get pretty loaded up with top, so I have to keep the depth there as well or it can be a liability instead of a weapon.

Gads i wonder how closed the sweetspot is if we compared both sticks...the 7G is tight in the middle, and I love that. Really key to the versatility of the stick.

I remember the 7G being nicely dense for a 100-square-inch frame. 16x20 patterns can really be the biz; best of both worlds.

One day I'll have to retry the 7G. Actually, I might have a trade set up for one right now, but it's still a maybe as the other party is thinking it over. I remember when I demoed the 7G, I played two matches with it. In one I played this pusher that often gives me an awful time because I'm usually an idiot against pushers (I win, but I sweat WAY to much to do so) and I was serving him off the court, and nailing corners a lot. It was great at taking those dink shots and getting rid of them effectively with easy, easy line drives for winners. In the other match against a much better player, the only thing I remember is getting jammed up on a lot of forehands but then hitting a ton of lasers when I lined it up properly. Serves were sick. I also even recall smacking a down-the-line forehand to end the match on a winner, always satisfying.

ProKennex, I love you.

Fellow 7Gers, I have possibly discovered something.

If you look at the PJ, you notice at the tip that there is white, as with other PJs, I believe this to possibly be a nice little guide for lead tape application. So I measured out the length at 12 from white to white and cut 8 grams of 1/4 inch tape out.

This racquet is so headlight, that the balance is still great, at 6 pts HL. The Swing Weight is now cranked up to 360, and the racquet weighs in at a manageable 12.2 ozs.

I believe the racquet will gain most from lead at 12 due to how it speccs out with it's stock balance.

I may have possibly turned this stick into a complete beast, I will post how it goes for me.

Well folks, I hit upon a magical thing. The lead tape was far better than I expected. If you have a 7G you owe it yourself to try this out. It is worth the $2 in lead tape and may make you worship the stick like some kind of golden calf.

When you bring the balance down to 6pts HL, and the SW up to 360, you would think the racquet would be very heavy and hard to use. I assure you that's not the case. The racquet becomes a complete thunderstick. Not even sure what to say, but this is a must try if you own this stick.

I do. What I'm finding out is with my B5E/Thunder Blast setup is that it rewards aggressive play and penalizes passive play. When I go for my shots, they tend to land in. If I just try to loop rally balls, they miss the mark a little more often.

Hey PP, is your stick stock otherwise? I have always wanted to try a setup like you are describing. You basically added 8 grams to 12 o'clock, correct? Hitting tomorrow night with a guy I usually beat easily, so it may be a prime time to try the "PP setup"!

Sparky yes..totally stock besdies the lead tape..This racquet is my favorite of all time now..just because it is so easy to mod this way in addition to all the things I have listed before. It still is in a realistic weight range of 345grams, but the SW is now jacked up to 360 for maximum ball crushing.

The best part is you can measure the lead tape across the white tip of the racquet to the solid red paint (past the one stripe) and 3 1/4 strips of lead on each side of the grommets will give you the specs I mentioned. It is almost like PK planned for this mod or something to be honest.

I assure you that you will be hitting an exceptionally heavy ball with not a lot of effort. I saved a lot of energy last night and was hitting very hard and very consistent. Love to see what you think.

That sounds like a mighty hefty stick w 8g at 12! I've been playing so much more dubs of late--mainly due to the 100*+ temps here in S.C. and think that much lead at 12 wld slow it down too much on quick/reflex volleys. Still digging the stick--especially on the 2hb--never hit it better!! Ordered one more 7g and will get it strung with full Black Thunder as my elbow still not ready for any poly mix right now.

Kcraig if you have a spare stick..just try it out..I thought it would be hefty as well, but it truly is not..you are bigger than me so I doubt you will have any issues at all..except possibly not smiling the whole time while you are crushing the ball.

I do know what you mean on the doubles..if you see some practice time coming up, just try it out and see how it goes..my mind is still kind of blown by how well it worked out.

Alright, so I was able to hit with the 7g tonight, I took off the mods I had done originally and returned it to stock, than I put the 8 grams at 12 o'clock as suggested by Power Player, hit with a friend of mine on very wet Har-Tru for a couple of hours.

So all I can say is holy s***, I was hitting monster ground strokes with this thing, the weight totally changed the dynamics of the racquet, where as before I felt like I had to accelerate as fast as I could to get the results I wanted, I now feel like I can just smooth out and hit a better ball, when I upped the amount of spin on the ball, I was getting tremendous kick off the court. Volleys were good as well, didn't really notice much difference there. Transition shots were superb, loved getting a short ball to my forehand, just was crushing it.

The only thing I struggled with at all was my kick serve didn't seem to have the jump that I expect, but to be fair, I tweaked my right side lower back on Saturday, so it's tough to gauge what actually was going on, I do know that I was holding serve very easily and my opponent was missing a lot of returns, so I have a feeling that the serves were plenty heavy, just not getting as high as usual, probably more due to me.

I was amazed overall that I didn't feel the need to think about my timing or how I was hitting the ball, it was just set up, swing and crush, a pretty cool sensation.

So I am sold, going to just move forward with this set up. I will hit early next week with my normal partner who will be able to gauge what's going on. Thank you Power Player for turning me on to such a great set up.

With extended racquets like 7G, this is how I serve with them.

For flat serves, I grab the very end of the handle. In fact, the butt cap is in the middle of the palm of my hand. This gives me the extra leverage for an absolute flat bomb.

For kick serves, however, I choke up on the handle. This way I get a quicker racquet head speed needed for the extra kick.

It may not sound all that scientific, but give it a try. You might very well find that it works for you.

Ive used countless rackets. Recently Volkl Organix 8, Yonex VCORE and RDIS 100. I always go back to a Aeroprodrive which seems the right racket for my strokes.

But, the APD, if you dont hit in the center, feels not so dampend and plush.
Recently Ive use Polyfibre TCS with Excel and this has helped.

I dont have a big shoulder problem but sometimes I feel something going on, a slight pain that does not increase but is there.

Im tired of buying new rackets and returning them. Loss of money and time.
I sometimes think of staying with the APD and forget about options.

So, is this Pro Kennex racket very different from the APD in terms of weight and swing speed and capacity to hit topspin shots?

Power Player

It's a little heavier and does not hit as heavy spin. I get excellent top with it, but not as much as the APD.

It does drive the ball with more pace and weight to it though.

You should be able to hit heavy top with it as it is a midplus stick with a neutral string pattern.

It is also an extended length stick..keep that in mind. I personally love them.

Getting one via a trade, and the gent I traded with was kind enough to include a set of my beloved Tour Bite.

Tension recommendation? I'm unafraid of going higher tension, as I have with my Ace Mid and BC20, etc., but don't know if that's where to start with this frame. Just checking to see where you guys are stringing with full poly, if there are any of you out there.

I'd suggest around 50-55#s. This stick should have more power than your Ace, so adjust accordingly.

I have dialed down the lead for a bit just because I need to get my new serve going before I go back to Roddick mode..but even 2-4 grams of lead at 12 will give you some extra boom if you want more from this racquet. It is a very simple stick to mod, you just put lead at the tip, and go hit.

To all PK 7g fans, I just ordered this frame from TW (with Babolat Tonic 16 at 60#) to try to help me get back to tennis. Basically, I had a one year layoff from tennis due to job change. As a result, my timing is off, footwork is off, and my wrist, elbow, and shoulder have been sore after recent outings.

I liked the 5g and the Ki5 but found them just a little lacking in the power and stability departments. Hopefully the 7g can help.

Yes the 7g has more power than the 5 series, but let us know what you think.

You still playing the 7g PP or move on? I tried to go back to my Diablo MP for a brief hit and realized just how much more stable/effective the 7g is. Also--my elbow has all but "about" healed up with using the 7g.

Still have 2. Also trying out a more open spin stick to see what works better for me in the w/l column. For that I am currently demoing a prince exo3 tour.

I won a lot of matches with the APD, and wanted something similar that was easy on the joints.

Yes it is extremely fun..the slices were driving for me..but keep in mind I was previously slicing with an APDgt, and had to adjust to keep that thing from floating.

A lot of people seem to love it with BHBR..it seems very common..I was thinking maybe doing regular BHB crossed with some OG sheep syn gut.
