I'v never had the chance to play on a singles only court but im sure it would be strange at first.

The courts I grew up playing on had 1 singles court, & now I run my tennis camp there, using the 1 singles only court & 3 doubles courts. Another HS in the area has a few singles courts b/c they ran out of room to put more doubles courts in, & they play the county HS 'flights' tournament there.

Why is it confusing?

Maroon and Earth-colored courts are supposed to give the most contrast against the ball. I've found this to be true on a general level---good for both the players and the viewers

I believe he's talking about the fact that it's a singles court, not the colors.

I myself don't mind them too much. I usually play a little less close to the lines when I get to play on one.

Ah, ok. I see. Yeah, I always feel just a little out of my element on such courts.

It would feel awkward to me as well. Never done it before though.

The courts I grew up playing on were green in the playing area but orange outside that area, although they had doubles lines painted....

I've never played on one so I wouldn't miss it. I play a lot of dubs too though so I wouldn't be that big of a fan.

I have a couple at my old school. They are weird to play on because without alleys, they give off the illusion of being smaller than they actually are.

The existence of those courts are undeniable proof that the doubles field sucked in the 90's.

Also those videos show that Edberg's serve sucked. Compare the first point in each of the two videos to see what I mean.

That looks really odd. I've never seen on before. Would that be easier to play on. That is really cool, weird, strange and fascinating :):):-?

Yuck, I would be pissed if I had to play on one of these. Just put singles sticks on a normal court and your good to go.

I think you would like it, everything you do on a court like this just feels a little bit better than on a normal court. But hey, maybe you would!

You're an idiot. Edberg basically only hit kick serves because it was hard to return them with anything on them - which obviously worked out well for him because he was a serve and volley player. Not to mention the fact that video number one has two of the biggest servers of all time in it....most players look like "weak" servers of the ball compared to them.

i play on these courts alot since its the closest one around, it sucks when we want to do doubles tho coz we use the singles lines also and its pretty narrow.

I miss the old wimbeldon surface and the indoor carpets. The homogenized condition of the game today, is extremely dull IMO. They really need to at the very leas polarize some surfaces again..

Its a big reason why I believe you see more players seeing more consistency and better results throughout the course of the years. You can play the same style on every surface there is. Years ago you could, but it would be much tougher to adapt your style to certain surfaces which didnt compliment your game as much so it was a tougher battle to achieve.

Yeah, i definetely miss the carpets of the 70`s and the 80`s. Also there were cool cities in USA that hosted lots of tournaments but they dont anymore. Its sad.
