I Need A Machine Upgrade!

I currently am using Gamma X-2 stringer. I've strung about 40-50 racquets now on my machine, and now I hate it. I'm looking for a machine (table-top or standalone) that has quality clamps and mounting brackets. I plan on upgrading to a Wise tension head later on. The price range is below $600 if that's possible. I just really need a machine that has clamps that won't slip on me and are easy to move. Right now, I'm currently looking at Mutual Power Alpine 6000 and the Revo 4000.
Any suggestions?

Do a search, you will find alot of happy Alpha Revo customers. Don't know much about the Mutual Power, but you can't go wrong with the Revo.

Good Luck.

This is why i recommend stretchign the budget and getting the right machine the first time... It saves money in the long run :)

The revo should serve you fine. I always thought flying clamps were a hassle-filled way to start a string job...

I just looked at the mutual power 6000 - First of all, I have an old Ektelon Model H, and it has the glide bars (similar to the 6000). They work great, but if you are going to spend that money get some nice fixed clamps. You will be much happier in the long run. The Mutual Power machine that has the fixed clamps, the table looks a little cheap. Do a search - can't tell much in the pictures, but compare that table to the revo and you will see what I mean.

Good Luck...

I have a Gamma x-2. I'm new to stringing and have only strung a few racquets for myself so far, and I only intend to use if for stringing my own racquets. Now that I have the hang of it, the x-2 seems fine for this purpose. The clamps, which may be a bit bulky compared to some others I've seen in photos, seem to hold the strings very well while not damaging the string.

Do you think the slippage you are experiencing is because the clamps ware out after stringing about 40 to 50 racquets? Could it be the result of string residue accumulating on the clamp surface? Can't that be cleaned?

I have thought that I may eventually want to upgrade the clamps with some new and better ones, but the little information I have is that this would cost somewhere around $100 or more, so since the clamps I have are working fine, I thought I'd wait a good while before considering upgrading them.

I just upgraded from a Klippermate to a older version of Gamma Progression 600 FC; I'm loving the fixed clamps right now!!! The Klippermate, to begin with, wasnt a great stringer; the clamps slips all the time, the tensioner was crap. But because I bought the stringer at $40 at the time i couldnt complaint. The Gamma Progression is a monster compared to the Kilpper; the machine is a rock, the fixed clamps are sterdy and steady.

I have to agree; if you're interested in stringing rackets for a long time to come, save some money and invest on a rock solid machine.

Yes, my clamps are probably slipping because they aren't clean, but I would rather invest in fixed clamps than to clean them because I just ... don't like flying clamps.

Looks like I'm going to get the Revo. Are the clamps much better on the Revo than on the Alpine 6000? I have no clue how to tell whether they are better or not, and I don't get how to adjust the height of the clamps on the Alpine. Also, for those who have the kind of clamps like the Revo, do you find that the fixed clamps get in the way when you're weaving? How do you position the clamps when you're weaving?

Thanks for the help guys.
