I.Prestige Replacement..C10 Pro?

mrc

Rookie
I have 4 I.Prestige MP's and have hit every Prestige Model since and like the IG model the best. However, I still end up going back to the I.PRestige MP's because it has that "thick" feel and stability. I love the racquet. However, they are expensive and have not been made since 2001. Should I buy more and stock up or I have heard a lot of good things about the Volkl C10 Pro as a potential replacement. Has anybody out there hit both of these? How do they compare? I know Volkl has a current model out and I am thinking about trying it. I have tried Wilson Blade, Donnay Gold, 6.1 95 Wilson, and a few others. I like 6.1 the best but stiffness hurts my old pitching arm. I have been thinking of trying the Prince Graphite as well.
I am a 4.5 player-all courter singles and dubs. 35 years old.
I would appreciate some people commenting on potential racquet replacements.

I can only compare the LM version of the Prestige MP with the C10 pro. The C10 pro feels whippier and seems to have more flex in the hoop which, for me, resulted in less control and accuracy. I know exactly what you mean by the "thick" feel and stability of the prestige and the C10 pro can't compare in this department in my opinion.

I was in a similar situation... I played the C10 becos I wanted a more open pattern frame but I felt the lack of that dense feeling behind the racket which my iPrestige and PT630 had.
I tot it might the CAPs providing that extra stability and solidness in the hoop... So maybe the T10 gen 1 might be a closer fit

Try the Kennex Ki Q Tour 18-main. REMOVE the grip, add 2 overgrips. Will THEN come in at 11.85 (Kennex tolerances, from what I have seen, are VERY close), and you have a luxurious, pro stock play/feel racket, much like the coveted pro-stock PT's. Big serves, great pocketing and dwell time, and hits a BIG ball.

Or take the 295 and weight it up. Unfortunately, P/K doesn't add a trap door, but a dabble of silicone and some lead would make this even better, I think. The Ki Q Tour is a bit stiffer - but more plush, for some reason, but silicone in the 295 could make a huge dif'.

I'm talking to the rep'. Want to get my hands on an 18-main 295, add some silly' inside, a touch of weight up top, and see.

And Kennex's 18's can generate big spin - but I guess that's relative to your ability.

I can also only compare the C10 with the LM Prestige midplus and I'd say that both of these frames had only acceptable spin potential. Some other frames have offered me some extra spin, including the Volkl Organix 10 325g, which replaced the C10's I used for several years. I should point out though, that I only got to like the O10 after I customized its weight and balance to get its layout more in keeping with my old C10's (12.4-12.5 oz. and 10 pts. HL).

I got into the C10 when I wanted a more flexible alternative to my old Wilson 6.1 Classics. At the time I found them, they were exactly what I needed. I think that both the C10 and O10 can be potentially great softer alternatives to the 6.1's, but they're not exactly alike. The O10 only came alive for me when I added some lead both to the handle and at 3/9 o'clock on the head. It's a bit more crisp and snappy than the C10, which is more flexible through the hoop. The C10 can offer some old school soft 'n solid feel, which might be fine as long as you know that the hoop flex can make this frame a little "tip dead".

Boinz-what did you think of C10? More spin?

I dunno if there is really more spin. But with 16mains the ball path is definitely higher hence the ball is also bounce higher. Whether does that mean more spin I really do not know. However, string density of the Heads and C10 in the center of the sting bed they are actually pretty similar

I used to play with iPrestige; My opinion; iPrestige is the best "modern" prestige. If you can stock up, do it!! If not, be prepared to spend some time experimenting and getting used to a new racquet.
I suggest trying lots of racquets. I now play with Babolat Strike tour.

You should stock up.

Why embark on a quest when your grail is already found. PT57E is brilliant stick!

(no, mine are not for sale  )

Donnay X Dual Pro (18x20) is very similar, so is Donnay Platinum.

Why did not you like Donnay Gold? Too lively? I actually prefer it to everything else you listed.

hi guys i am new to this site and am looking for some expert advise. I work at a tennis academy that has had several ATP players come through and i have several racquets that have been left behind, two are a flex point radical on the inside that says pt167a and then i have about 6 different prestiges from liquid metal to youtek that say pt57e i know that they are pro stock racquets so how much are they worth? I also was wondering what the difference is between these and the pt57a? And if anyone would like to trade for these? I am looking for more modern pro stock radicals.... i also have several i prestiges used by dmitry tursunov

Donnay Gold is awesome!!! Just doesn't bring quite enough mass like the I.Pres does but man it's awesome. I just win more with I.Pres. Backhand slice with Donnay Gold is pure GOLD!!!

What about the Graphene Prestige MP? My friend also likes the iprestige MP the best and told me that the Graphene Prestige MP is the closest and really likes it.

Interesting...

If you want to get more feedback on this stuff, you can start your own thread (in case you haven't yet). More of our pals here will at least see your title and maybe be able to help out.

Sounds like you've got a funky stash of gear there!

The Becker Melbourne at selling at $59 a pop... full CAPs, same string pattern with the iPrestige. Maybe OP wanna give it a try? Even if it dont work out at least $59 dont hurt that much

You can buy 3-4 iPrestige sticks in good condition for the price of one new retail Prestige. ;)

EXACTLY! Playing currently with a gorgeous one, replaced grommets, had a few minor scratches...$50 shipped off the "bay"...just be patient and happy hunting!

Seriously they are worth nothing...no I mean it..trust me, I'll buy the whole lot off you for $100! Then I'll sell you some land in Florida.

I hit with C10 Pro. I was expecting to not like it compared to the I.Prestige but I actually really like it. I like the bigger sweet spot and the plow through. Its just one hit, but it seems to be an awesome racquet. The feel is EXTREMELY good on all shots.

Great, glad a good experience so far!

Warning --- the two frames that are strung have 16g volkl cyclone mains and 16g volkl natural gut crosses which was a very expensive indulgence that really played well in that frame. But they hit really really well with a full bed of poly strung middle tension too. Just that my old fart elbow complained with full poly when training three hours at a time several times a week.

All, I am continuing to enjoy my C10 experience. I have it strung with all Poly (Sonic Pro Edge), Hybrid w Sonic Pro Edge mains and Thunderblast X's, and Cyclone Mains and Nat Gut Crosses. All of them play well with some differences. The C10 feels great with Nat Gut but I find myself really playing well with all three frames. Question...If I buy a 4th or 5th frame on the market and buy different year models, will they all hit the same or very close? Does the 2012 Cosmetic play similar to all the other frames?

From what I've heard, the last few years of C10's have been pretty consistent. A couple of avid users have noted this over the last year or two. This current black/yellow paint job, the mostly lemonade yellow version before that, and the primarily black model before that have probably been the exact same racquet with different finish.

Going further back where you get into the yellow-and-black sort of bumblebee paint jobs as well as the fish-scale versions is where you'll probably find more variations. I did, but a couple of those older Volkls were real honey-bunnies, too.

mrc, can you share your full poly setup tension on the C10 vs what you usually have on your iPrestige pls

I also remember a couple hints from a certain poster or two with ties to Volkl implying that the last several iterations have firmer upper hoops than the original. This could account for the disappearance of the noodley hoop complaints that used to be ubiquitous in C10 Pro threads.

I personally love the flexy hoop in my 2012 C10 Pro... When I want to put more kick on my topspin shots, I hit them higher in the sweet spot and get a nice "fling" :)
