Advancing through qualies to 4R MS1000 Miami has earned the promising 20-year-old a dedicated thread.

Many here have had our eyes on Jared for three years or so, particularly @GRANITECHIEF who saw his son win over JD at the Zoo along the way to the title and its automatic WC to USO'14.

Opting to go pro after graduating from high school in Rhode Island, one of his first plum rewards was being invited to Dubai to train with fedr over the offseason. That work paid off with his first and only Challenger title at Maui'15 in January.

His first ATP match win was at Memphis'15 over sometimes dubs partner Big Kozlovski. His biggest scalp was eliminating then #12 Prince George Joffrey McFly Goffin ( hi @I Am Finnish !) at USO'16. While not sexi, the w/o vs Raonic earns nice cash ($77K minimum) and the valuable 90 points to vault him to NCH #75 and #5 in the NextGen Race to Milan.

At 6'2", he's in that champion physique zone and is coached by two former top 15 players, Jan- Michael Gambill and Mardy Fish.

How far can our Jared diamond in the rough rise?

Great new thread. Seriously promising #nextgen for sure.

I like these new Americans who are coming through with a cooler temperament on court.

Big off forehand and a nice transition game.

The slightly awkward wearing of a Nike-branded pirata headband may be Jan-Michael Gambill's influence :)

He has good power, lacks touch. Serve and backhand are decent but not great. I don't really see top 10 being in his future unless he improves a lot, but he has some potential.
Better at this point than Kozlov and possibly Tiafoe.

I voted for top ten potential, but, I would've added a 3rd option: top 30 potential. Unless you do one thing incredibly well, every tourney is a struggle. And most players have that predicament. But, he's seems so genuinely nice -- and that counts with me -- and he's scrappy, and has some fight. That can really get you places. Look at Cibalkova! What the Hell is a player with her game doing in the top 5...?! For what ever reason a name of an old wrestler just popped into my head: Junkyard Dog! A tough personality on court, with a lot of perseverance could get him that far, I hope.

Oh, and that thread title deserves an award. Too funny, ST. ;^)B

The diamond was roughed up with a Sock in the jaw.

A nice boost in the rankings and I believe it's early enough to get DE to RG. Last year he tried Houston qualies (lost 2R) and then the Sarasota/Savannah/Tallahassee Challenger triumvirate for the RG WC. Kicker took him out at Houston and Sarasota but he made the finals in Savannah, beating elder Harrison, younger Melzer and just plain Young on the way to losing to Bjorn American.

A reduced schedule might be in order this spring. I'd like to see him over in Europe earlier than the one Challenger (Bordeaux) he used as warmup for RG'16. Play Houston and then get jetting to the Continent to be acclimated better.
