I stake my rubles on Rublev: the official Andrey match watch

Not buying that. Rubylev was there, then he wasn't: then he had to start all over again but, shaken by the fold, there wasn't enough belief to close a second time. It was an ugly third set for both of them, just ultimately uglier for Rubylev. Demon is a bulldog, as competitive as they come. In the end, that was the difference.

Rubylev? Love it. "Ruby" was Meles's creation and I loved it.

aaaaand Rublev concedes the first break of the fourth set with an almost parodical double fault, way out.

Racquets are getting destroyed.

Cue the baseline of Chic's Good Times.

Their highness the Carsomyr cannot be bothered to participate in the journalistic debate, unless and until their germanic idols emerge from their fake injuries and silent bans. The lowly Rublev, Donskoy, Shapovalov, Khachanov, Zverev, and the likes, are not worthy of their majestical attention at this time, you see.

Bumping this thread, just because I can.

Since the last time, our Russian peasant liberator has turned a ripe 21 years of age. His results of late have been less than stellar, his ranking has dropped worryingly (with Doha points to defend at the start of next season as well), and he has struggled to find any consistent form since the Brokeback Mountain episode.

Nevertheless, my faith abides.

Meanwhile, let's appreciate the Rublev haymaker. An underappreciated facet of his game is his admirable footwork. I don't mean movement overall – speed, running, scrambling – but his offensive footwork is on point, and a large part of why he's able to carry out his aggressive precision game. The boxer in him shines through.

Rumors have it that Andrey Rublev, who was ranked just below the entry cutoff for Doha, has now gotten a last-minute place in the draw after Mikhail Kukushkin disappeared from the draw in mysterious circumstances. The FSB purportedly does not wish to comment on the matter.

Kukushkin's body is rumoured to be hidden behind a double wall of his hotel, freshly bricklayed by Rublev's net skills.

Young Money goes into the new year with style, making routine work of Seppi and serving a breadstick in the process. Next up, Basilashvili.

Best of luck to Andrey in 2019! May it be a bountiful one.
