Is Bouchard playing in the 125 WTA Indian Wells tournament Feb. 25 - March 3?

Update: Bouchard not on the draw sheet so she did not enter this tournament. Bouchard will do the big IW tournament after this one I think.

2019 IW
Bouchard - Flipkens, to meet Collins
Flipkens runs a lot, versatile, but feasible .
If Bouchard can get past Flipkens, Bouchard had a close match with Collins at the latter part of 2018. So Bouchard has a good chance to win against Collins if she can get a win over Flipkens ranked 33.

This will be the first time they have ever played one another!

ENTERING THE SCENE

On Thursday evening – no earlier than 6 p.m. (9 p.m. ET in Canada), Genie Bouchard will play in her seventh BNP Paribas Open when she starts out against no. 56-ranked Kirsten Flipkins of Belgium.

Bouchard and Flipkins, a 33-year-old who ranked as high as no. 13 in 2013, will be meeting for the first time. Flipkins is an aggressive, forward-moving player who should present an attractive target for the 25-year-old Montrealer if she’s sharp and playing good tennis. The winner will get to play hyper-competitive American Danielle Collins, the 25th seed and a semi-finalist at the 2019 Australian Open.

Doubles at the Indian Wells event is often simply used as a tune-up for some of the top singles players. That certainly seemed to be the case on Wednesday night when the wild card pairing of no. 4-ranked Sloane Stephens and Bouchard played a first-round match against Flipkins and Johanna Larsson of Sweden. It was pretty chilly in Stadium 2 but Bouchard and Stephens only had to stay out there for 54 minutes in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to the Belgian/Swedish pairing.

On Thursday Bouchard and Flipkins will graduate from 8,000-seat Stadium 2 to the big house – 16,100 capacity Stadium 1 – for their opening-round encounter.

Tom should check the spelling: it's Flipkens, not Flipkins. Now Bouchard, her we could call Flinkekin (for the Dutchies here).

Bouchard lost to Flipkens - 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in a 2+ hour match! Bouchard had points to defend and now her ranking will drop to the 100s....again! Bouchard had her chances to win but screwed up on the critical points! It sort of laughable!

As someone who follows Bouchard day in and out, you should be better informed (unless you post inaccurate information on purpose of course).

No, her ranking will not drop (not significantly anyway) because she had no points to defend from last year when she also folded 1R at IW. Her ranking movement after IW will be more dependent of what other players around her position will do. There are few players close by in the rankings that are still in the tournament that can push her further down few spots eventually.

She will eventually drop significantly after Wimbledon where she has 220 points to defend from qualifying and 1R. This unless of course you consider material few dozen points she got in between from winning few qualifying matches here and there in small tournaments and moving up and down few spots.

FWIW, last year she only got 3-digit points in 4 tournaments: Wimbledon (220), Gstaad (110), USO (220) and Luxembourg (256). Those are the major events to keep an eye on for significant ranking movement.

Just going by what Mary Carillio said in during the broadcast!

Bouchard is ranked #2 seed in Miami Qualifying tournament! It too bad she faces
Nao Hibino in her 1st round match. I think last 2 years, she has lost to Hibino in close sets but still lost in 3 or 4 times of their 1st and 2nd round face offs. Not hopeful for a win here based on past matches. Looks like Hibino still has her number!

Ohh no not again. And a bagel in there.

Bouchard lost 6-4, 0-6, 4-6!

I sort of felt that all along but I don’t see how she continues to be matched up with Hibino in the bigger tournaments? How unlucky can Bouchard get to keep draw an opponent that has her number? That is a confident deflater for Bouchard! Looks like she going to be heading down in the ranking...again!:(

The draws are obviously rigged. Bouchard could have taken out any player in the main draw, nevermind the qualifying draw that is beneath her even having to play in.

This is a terrible blow for women's tennis in Canada. With Bouchard dropping in the rankings, there just doesn't seem to be anyone else out there that Canadians could get behind.

I am becoming fan of the 18 year old Bianca Andreescu! She reminds me of young Steffi Graf, Monica Sela, William Sisters just shooting her way up the rankings.

It seems like the rest of the year will be in 125 level WTA and in qualifying round tournaments of WTA tournaments. Bouchard needs to keep her ranking from dropping below the 95 ranking or she again faces the qualifying GS round tournaments. What a tough way to begin 2019 with doing qualifying rounds that have few points and bottom level prize money. Bouchard has points to defend too. Bouchard needs to get into the MD in order to defend her points or get into a MD tournament and get at least into the quarters of two Premier levels.

at this point her tennis is just a way to keep her in the public eye to keep other streams of income flowing, and she's doing a much better job of it than i predicted a year ago when her ranking was really sliding - with not much to defend until the July-October stretch, she ought to be able to keep her career afloat a bit longer

Especially the bottom level prize money is going to be difficult for her. Tennis is her only source of income, and I think most of it goes to take care of her family. Whatever is left mainly goes to her charitable foundation that provides lip gloss tips to the less fortunate.

Bouchard continues her career likely losing money at this point from the tour BUT making a ton on the side off court. I had no clue she was as big as she is on Instagram and social media in general. Good for her making money but I don't see anyway back to the Top 20 or even Top 30 to be honest. She'll hover in the 60-100 range for a while before maybe she finally decides to retire.

Bianca's amazing run is going to obliterate Bouchard's already fading recognition and tennis canada has Felix coming up now on the men's side. Marino might well pass Eugenie this year too.

Stupid question. But how do you make money on Instagram.

Same way you do on a commercial. 1.9M followers, that’s a whole lot of eyeballs if you want to promote a product.

Like all celebrities do! You have a following and sponsors sign you to do endorsements on their products, services in turn you either wear a T-shirt with their name and logo on it and post it on your social media accounts and the sponsor also uses you image and/or endorsement video to do their ad campaign.

so she has people follow her and then she sells products. Jesus. Why do people follow her?

More time on the beach for her!
I think more like training hard to get go deep in the draw for Charleston. Bouchard has to do qualifying and then make it through that, to go three matches to avoid doing qualifying until late June-July where she had points to defend.
