I STUMBLE WITH EVANS: Pub Crawl to an intoxicating first title

G.O.A.T.
A tactically superb, dogged performance from Dan Evans earlier today in Dubai where he beat Andrey Rublev, 6-2, 7-6(9), saving two set points in the second set tiebreak in which he was 0-3 down at one stage.
Yes i was off on that one, surprised me as he seems to struggle to put together a few in a row. Love to see him make the final and indeed win it.

Saw him at the ATP cup. He played beautiful attacking tennis. Very entertaining. I don’t understand why he has no sponsorship.

I thought at this stage he would be able to get some type of sponsorship.....So does that mean he has to go into a shop like thew rest of us and buy his tennis gear????!!! Surely not??!
TW ships worldwide! Brands without logos are a bit limited. Otherwise, off to Walmart he goes!

Pub crawling is just no fun with social distancing.. After a great win over Rublev Dan succumbs to Raonic 6-3 7-5. Better crawl next time!

A bit upscale for a Brummie who grew up on Welsh water from the Elan Valley.
At least Elan has a legendary Lotus named after it.

it would be a Chavs wet dream cruising in that Valley in an Elan

but more likely an Evian labeled thing could muster for him extra quid

I still really dig and enjoy his tennis regardless his character.
Lets not forget only Kygs takes the cake for the only tennis player to ruin the
image of any country, sport, label, equipment, printed matter, language,
male species and human race.

A dramatic first-round match on Monday night in Saint Petersburg where Dan Evans led Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 6-5 and 40-0 on the Swiss player's serve in the next game only to lose that game and the set in the ensuing tiebreak. In the third set Wawrinka led by 5 games to 2, but was caught at 5-all before recovering to take the next two games and the match, 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5.

Thanks for the summary! Sounds like a fun match, unless you're an Evans fan..

One of these days, Dan is going to convert a match point against Stan. He famously let him off at 2016 US Open and Stan went on to win the title!

Having lost in the first round last week in Saint Petersburg after having three match points against Stan Wawrinka, today Dan Evans saved a match point against Karen Khachanov to reach the semi-finals in Antwerp. The Russian led 6-3, 4-2, but was pegged back to 4-all in the second set. That set ended in a tiebreak in which Khachanov had match point at 6 points to 5, but couldn't convert, Evans eventually taking the tiebreak by 9 points to 7. In the third set Evans broke early and then held on before serving out the match in the tenth game for the win, 3-6, 7-6,(7), 6-4.

With the little help from the umpire.

All you USTA players 4.0 and up watch daniel, you can learn so much from his stretegies that he deploys on the singles court. This guy is maximizes every shot he has. His serve is top 15 in the world also, and he doesn't have a big serve, or at least he doesn't use the big serve all the time cause he knows his % would drop if he hit it big all the time. but yet his service games are ususally easily held or he domniates with his Serve + 1 stretegy

Yes, earlier today Dan Evans had four match points in his semi-final against Ugo Humbert in Antwerp. All of them came in the tiebreak that ended the second set, three at 6-3 and the fourth at 7-6. However, the Englishman was unable to convert any of them and ended up losing the second set and the final set as Humbert recorded a 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 victory.

It would be so cruel for a guy with so much game and tennis smarts to never win a single title. There are tons of far less deserving players who have pulled this off.
The 7-9 final set TB loss to Albot in the Delray’19 final was a cruel twist of the blade.

When he lost in the Sydney’17 final in straight sets to Muller it seemed reasonable to think he would be back in another final very soon but he lost basically 1.5 years due to the cocaine suspension.

Hopefully everyone including Evo get a lot more chances to grab a first title in 2021 and beyond.

Second straight week of SFs (or better!) and second ATP500 level SF of 2020 (Dubai, lost to Shoesypas) and his career. Evo will actually be the higher ranked of his pairing vs Sonego (33 vs 42) and the 1.58-2.39 betting favorite.

It's only a matter of time until Dan get's his first title. 2019/2020 have been phenomenal years for him and his game and level just keep rising. He's one of my favourite players to watch at the moment and I think considering where he came from and how far he has come, he is probably the most deserving person on tour to get a title atm.

Another strong week for him though.

Meanwhile in Kazakhstan, the far less talented Millman managed to win his first title. Maybe Evans should enter more 250 tournaments to get the monkey off his back.
I'm going to find a picture of him and make it my 2021 avatar. You'll see, that will make the difference. He'll win a title in 2021.

Thread bumpity for Bumper Evans return to action, a straight set win in R32 over Pedro Sousa at the ATP250 Melbourne 2 (Great Ocean Road) tournament. Dano is #8 seed (1R bye) and will play American Marcus Giron in R16. The top half of the draw also includes seeds Kyrgios, Coric, Fritz and Wawrinka.

I had one eye on that and one eye on the ATP Cup play! Nice runs for Katie Boulter and Jo Konta, too.
He might be able to scrape past Giron, though it will likely be close, don't you think?
All fingers and toes crossed, a pint if he wins.
