As a Federer and Nadal fan I have admired them both as for me they are the two greatest of all time. Djokovic has a very good chance to finish with the highest slam count (5 years, 20 slam opportunities), but Federer Nadal for me will still be top two.

Federer in 2008 was playing amazing tennis on grass, he won Halle without losing a set or losing serve, and he got to the final of Wimbledon 2008 without losing a set. The commentators and pundits were saying he was playing perfect tennis - and he was.

Nadal had also stepped his game up on grass, he got the final in 2006 and 2007 and improved in 2008 to win the title.

I've noticed people on this forum discredit Nadal hugely saying he got lucky in 2008. Silly thing to say because if you watch the match you see two players in their prime at the top of their game. It is no surprise that almost every tennis fan, commentator, past and current player say this is the greatest match of all time. The quality from the first point onwards is undeniable.

And we know for certain it wasn't a fluke, as people seem to think, because Nadal almost beat Federer in 2007 Wimbledon final, when in 2007 Federer was the greatest version of himself with a 3 slam season and his absolute prime age wise and his game showed this.

Is it really a surprise that Nadal pushed Prime Federer right to the end, then clearly he was stronger in 2008 and managed to beat him?

But I want to hear the Nadal haters excuses of why Federer lost in 2008 and why was Nadal able to almost beat the greatest form Federer in the 2007 Wimbledon final?

Excuses please, explanations for 2007 and 2008 final and please see video below for reference.

he was better? lol. he won in 5 sets.

i still think tennis was pushing/creating a narrative with that match and they allowed external factors to play a role(it seriously was much darker irl than on screen and the match continued for longer than it should have) , but it is what it is and nadal deservingly won. its funny though that nearly 11 years later, tennis continued on, many other amazing matches have been played and federer/nadal continued to add to their legacy and it wasnt a case of nadal triumphs over federer and replaces him in the way they thought it would be since he continued to play, win some, and lose some. both continued and experienced highs and lows.

He was in the best grass form of his life back then. He had just won Queen's (a tournament he thinks he no longer needs to bother with), had the experience of playing the last 2 finals against Fed at Wimbledon, had just well and truly smoked him in the final of RG, and was brimming with confidence.

Firstly, I think the best form Fed showed on grass is the latter rounds of W2003 and all of W2006.

However, not really many excuses for this win, though it did take an extraordinary set of circumstances to take Fed down. It took the second greatest player of all time with a kryptonite game, giving arguably his all time best performance on grass to take the victory 9-7 in the fifth after an unprecedentedly crushing blow at RG weeks prior. And to think, it took that to stop Fed from winning 7 Wimbledons in a row. We speak of Nadal's obviously GOAT single-surface dominance, but Fed's on grass has also been quite something.

Even when we’re in mid season we get mindless clickbait drivel like this. #makettgreatagain #nomoredumbposts #bantheinstigators

Most of them never pretended to be ok with Nadal in the first place

It would be glorious.
Lot of instigating here lately. All I say is if it does happen I don’t wanna hear complaining when it’s reciprocated by people.

We can stop pretending it’s only Fed fans that do it now

I don't think anything has changed really. Everyone is just super sensitive since the FO. It really burned this place up and a lot of masks melted :) I haven't seen a day without trolling here in a decade. Just all of a sudden it's a problem.

Honestly, don’t care at all that Nadal won. 2008 Wimb and 2009 AO were quickly erased by 2009 RG and 2009 Wimb.

2017 AO was just a gentle reminder. 2017 Wimb just shut the door.

It’s not a problem to me. Just a lot of Ned fans tend to have a victim complex when they dish it as much as they take it.

And honestly it’s more so the Nadal fans whose masks have been melting lately. Rightfully so their guy won. Kudos. Just don’t complain if Fed wins another slam and it’s returned with interest. I don’t have much interest in doing it myself really. But it will happen if he wins

There was no pretending in the first place. It's basically equal opportunity from all sides and has been forever depending on who is doing well in the moment. This idea that Fed fans are the "worst." is BS. If anything it's always been Nadal and Djokovic fans together vs Federer fans because I can guarantee you if Fed ever gets his slam count surpassed he'll be piled on here by two fanbases. There's a few Nadal fans that dislike Djokovic and vice versa, but they're few and far between. 95% of Djokovic and Nadal fans here have a common enemy and it's Federer. Make no mistake.

To argue peak-Nadal would beat peak-Fed on grass because of 2008, is pretty the same as arging peak- Djokovic would beat peak-Nadal on clay because 2015.

Yeah, it's a three way street (four including Red Rick) but apparently it's just Fed fans letting their masks slip after the FO when there's a bunch of Nadal fans fanning the fires...Plus there's some Djokovic fans on here that hate Federer with all their souls lol.

So much hypocrisy.

Both fanbases tend to instigate the other and then gaslight them to make them think they’re the ones doing it lol. You could write a psychological dissertation on this place. Please just write it more cogently than AndyM

Lol at people talking about Nadal fans with the complex. Sorry dude, no one obsesses over their hero the way Federer stans do. You can tell it's grass season by the amount of trolling that goes on here.

Anyways, I'll go with Mono. Federer hadn't lost a set going into the Final but that's because his mono only affected him in the Final.

Yeah dude because brand “new” accounts don’t come here in droves during clay season. Lol

Except that Federer was still in his prime (though not peak) in 2008. Nadal in 2015 was at his absolute worst. So your comparison makes no sense.

The first chapter will be titled, "SeedGate".

If Nadal goes out early to Kyrgios you'll be able to fill the sea with the salt about the draw. I'll try to keep my hysterics to a minimum if that happens.
