2007 Federer was the greatest version of himself with a 3 slam season and his absolute prime age wise and his game showed this.
Shouldn't feed trolls with multiple accounts, but for the record: Fed's peak grass form was 2003-2006. Anyone who says 2007 is not a Fed fan and hasn't a clue about Fed's grass peak.

What have 2010, 2011 or 2013 got to do with 2008?

Anyhoo, looking at 2013, Fed played very compromised that year. At least he showed up when he was.
Fed was 32 in 2013 and got destroyed at his BEST TOURNAMENT by Stakhovsky.

When Bull was 32, he won 92% of his matches and cruised to an RG victory (that Fed was afraid to play).

In 2007 fed was a bit better than in 2008 and nadal was a bit better in 2008 than he was in 2007 it's mainly confidence that was the difference.

Nadal probably should have won easier in 2008, fed was there for the taking after that RG final

Fed 2007 was better but he was better still in 2004, 2005 and 2006

Also for me the 2007 final was better quality as was the 2009 AO final Wimbledon 2008 is far from the greatest match

Destroyed? How is losing in 4 sets wiyh 2 of the losing sets being tiebreaks and the other being 7-5, destroyed? Funny cos 29 year old nadal got straight settled at RG by Djokovic, 29 year old Fed beat Djokovic. 30 year old Fed won Wimbledon

Because it was clear watching the match that Fed was not doing to win. Hence, destroyed.

29 y/o Nadal got straight setted by Djokovic at RG, but that was DJOKOVIC not STAKHOVSKY.

Yeah that's not being destroyed. Nice try

22 year old Nadal got taken pit by Soderling

Nadal also got taken out by some absolute legends in other slams like Pouille and fognini

Nadal hitting forehand to not even half of half court and Fed shanking backhand and then the vamosing = great match

This isn't an age issue this is a health issue. It is well known that Fed played hurt for most of that year, hence he was anomalously bad. Bull skipped his best slam (and Wimbledon for that matter) when he was hurt, so we can't examine who would have decked him besides Soderling and Djoker. Believe it or not, losing in 2R is better than not playing (results wise of course).

As a Berdych fan I don’t get why fed and Ned are so overhyped. 38 slams? Big whoop. I’ve had double the slams at Denny’s
You know they have Denny's in Tokyo?

I remember the first time I went there, I was still living back at home in California and was missing home. As soon as I saw a Denny's, I couldn't believe it, thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but after a double take I understood it is real. I went straight in and ordered double grilled chicken breast with green salad and a glass of still water with lemon....all of sudden I was home again.

I'm from other side of the world. My only experience with Denny's was when I was staying in New York some years ago. It was Monday night and I had Raw on then a Denny's commercial with Paulie Walnuts came on. Epic. lol

Dennys is awesome. Back in 2009 I was in Houston Texas, and we had just finished watching Wrestlemania 25. So the fans were all leaving, I went into a Denny's and it was packed with wrestling fans, and the question on everyone's mind was...Did we just witness the greatest match in wrestling history between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels? I was with these complete strangers sitting there, all of us enjoying our food, and having in depth chats....we didn't leave until 9am the next morning!

I probably would have argued Bret vs Austin. Michaels and Undertaker is in my top 5 Wrestlemania matches.
Well, there is nothing like having a Denny's grand slam while enjoying an argument about wrestling with everyone dressed up in wrestling gear. :p

Sounds awesome. I was raving about it with the guys on the old wwefan forum that doesn't exist any more.

Misspoke, I meant to say top 3. Bret and Austin is my undisputed 1.

It was awesome, but then instead of going home, I jump on a plane and head straight to Vegas for a pit stop first of all and met some wrestling fans there on the strip. I get a call from my aunt saying everyone is heading off to Hawaii for spring break and I need to get my tail back to LA as quickly as possible and to get my flight booked. I get back home to LA, and while watching the match for first time on You Tube, I accidentally book my flight to take me to Salt Lake City instead of Hawaii. :p

We all get to the airport, and everyone is in a crazy rush, and when I get to check in, they say everything is set for Salt Lake City. LOL. My aunt has a go at me, and we are trying to get the ticket changed, but it was too late, so I then get out to Salt Lake, and then catch a flight from there to Hawaii. On the plane I meet this girl, and who started paying interest to the Bret Hart Auto Biography I had bought and was in the middle of reading, and we just hit it off.

I get to Hawaii, and my aunt is asking where I am, the kids are asking for you. Well, I was with my new lady friend, and told them I am stuck at the airport, but will meet them soon. Her hotel was close to where we were staying, so we hanged out by the beach drinking Blue Hawaii ;)

All this because I was too busy watching Shawn Michaels v Undertaker on You Tube. :X3:

Why has Nadal only won Wimbledon ONCE (2010) since that epic final? Even Murray, considered a far ‘lesser’ player has won it twice since then. Please bring on all the excuses why....

This is why I asked about 2008 Nadal and not 2014.

The 2006-2010 Nadal on grass was vastly different to say to his game today.

Federer at his prime is considered the greatest grass court player of all time, and Nadal went toe to toe with Prime Federer and even beat him on one occasion. I think it's remarkable that Nadal was able to do this, don't you?

People on here discredit Nadal on the 2008 win, Federer's 2008 grass performance was one his best out of any season he's played. He won Halle without dropping serve or a set, and he got to the final of Wimbledon without dropping a set.

People say Nadal got lucky etc but that's not true. In 2007 he also took Federer to five sets in the final and 2007 was Federer's greatest form he won 3 slams and was 25-26 years old and was playing almost perfect tennis.

Why do people hate Nadal for being able to go toe to toe with Federer at his best years? Enjoy it like I do as a fan of both.

I love this argument.

So Nadal of this year's AO final was his prime/peak, right?
No that's part of the analysis. You look at the footwork, age, the forehand, timing etc and he was on an amazing level. He was hitting winners from anywhere on grass, and of course he would do, greatest grass court player of all time in his prime age - what more do you expect.

The people saying Nadal got lucky don't address why he went 5 sets with Federer in Wimbledon 2007. Federer's greatest year and greatest performance. And Nadal was not as good in 2007 as he was in 2008 on grass - that is very clear to see.

If you want to see the difference of level, look at the video in my opening post. Look at the speed and movement of both players compared to today. You must agree it's something amazing to see from both players regardless of who you support (both in my case).

Can you imagine 2008 Nadal against a 2003/2004 Federer? Nadal would have made mince meat out of him.

Even in 2006 Nadal was 20 years ago, a baby in today's tennis terms and there were two close sets - you're not going to argue that 2008 2007 and 2006 Federer was crap now are you?

Why do you think Federer had to change his forehand and backhand to add more spin? The field in 2003-2005 were people like Philopousis and Agassi.

I think 2007 Federer played a perfect game, even on clay, apart from Nadal I don't think there is a player in history that's better than 2007 Federer on clay - that's my opinion.

He let out a giant disgusting fart during the final. Federer with his bigger nose was more impacted by it and distracted so lost.

I don't understand why you have to mention Philippoussis as though he was a stalwart in the 2003-05 era! All he did in those 3 years was make a Wimby final and win a minor grass tournament. You might as say "the field of 2009-2011 were people like Verdasco and Roddick! I can get why you mentioned Agassi, as he was playing fine tennis during that time, not much difference to 2014-16 Fed...but if you said, "Roddick, Safin and Hewitt" instead of Scud, it would have been much more accurate.

It's a media hype to somehow elevate 2008 match to historic levels .
Quality wise 2007 final was way better .

And fed has won 3 more Wimbledons after 2008 final loss and Rafa has won just 1 .
So I don't understand how is 2008 match so important ?
I only see it as just another major final .
Had fed never won another Wimbledon again after 2008 final loss ,den this match would have carried more importance I think..
It was momentous for a few reasons:
1) Fed’s aura of invincibility on grass shattered
2) Fed’s domination of tour ended (lost top ranking after several years)
3) Nadal’s first slam off clay. Basically first step in becoming a bona fide ATG
4) Epic nature of match (two juggernauts on collision course all tournament)
5) Fed’s dramatic comeback in 4th set and 5th set rallies (agree with others that 2007 had better overall tennis but the 4th and 5th sets of this match much tighter obviously).
