I wish Nadal is more friendly, jovial and humurous rather than being very shy and always focussed on his career.

Wait, you mean Rafa isn't jovial in interviews?
And he's clearly jovial in person, as we see him laughing all the time when with fans and friends/family :)
And on the court he does more positive celebrations than any player on the tour!

I do not know any tennis player personally. But from Nadal's photos that I see on news paper and internet and also on TV, I feel that he is not a very friendly and jovial type of person unlike Federer and Djokovic. I have never seen Nadal being humorous or funny at any time unlike players like Federer, Djokovic, Agassi etc.. Nadal does not try to make people laugh by his wit and humor. He never tries to behave in a funny way or to entertain the audience. He is always extremely focused only on improving his game and winning more and more titles. In all his photos that I see, I only see him being very ferociously and mercilessly competitive. His appearance is like he is very angry towards his opponents as though they have done some big harm to him. Also from his looks, I feel that he is never satisfied or contented with his achievements and always badly wants to achieve more and more. I feel that even if he wins 100 slams, he will not relax or cool down and will still be extremely hungry to win many more titles. In other words, he does not show any mercy or generosity towards his less accomplished opponents and is always obsessed only with his personal accomplishments, pride and glory. I feel that there is no merciful, generous, funny or jolly side in him and I find him to be always dead serious about defeating his opponents and winning more and more titles. I actually feel that even Pete Sampras is a more friendly and humorous person than Nadal. This is how I really feel about Nadal. I have wondered for long why no other person in the world feels like that.

Rafa looks like he laughs more than any player on tour, based on the photos and footage I've seen of him with friends and family :)
Rafa doesn't let tennis control his life, that's why he's always in a great mood off the court.
Wins and losses don't seem to impact his personal life.
And when he does courtside interviews he laughs constantly with Jim Courier and John McEnroe etc.
The only time he's serious is in press conferences, because he's aware that reporters are going to try and trick him into saying something that can be used as a misleading headline, but he laughs in interviews when there is a funny moment that's for sure.

You are looking in the wrong place.
Rafael Nadal is a professional tennis player.

Well...I'm a Federer "fan". But lately I have started to like Nadal more and more. I have always liked Nadal way more than The Choker. I believe that Nadal is honest, easy going and respects his opponent, and he always fights till the end and doesn't give up when he is maybe feeling some little pain and his opponent is "winning big-time". I mean how many time has The Choker done that, especially against Stan The Man?

But Djokovic is a much more jolly natured person unlike Nadal. He has a great sense of humor and often tries to make people laugh. Also he is much more generous and compassionate towards his opponents than Nadal. Djokovic is merciful even towards animals. I remember very well that during 2018 Wimbledon final against Anderson, he nursed an injured bird that got hit by the ball. I do not think Nadal will ever be compassionate towards an animal that too on such a big occasion like Wimbledon final. I am just trying to express my honest views and I really wonder why people think the other way around as evidenced by the replies in this post.

Does anybody else think the same way?
when he's competing, he's competing...he's all those things off the court

true, some players, successful ones, can do some playing around on court and still win, but obviously that's not Rafa's MO

Is he? Have you seen a press conference with Rafa? He is so funny, and yes part of it (was) his (not so good) english (before). Anyway The Choker is the least sympathetic of the top players, that is my honest opinion.

I do not have any problem even if Rafa is not so much respectful or humble. I will be very happy if Nadal openly tells that Federer and Djokovic are nothing compared to him. But I only wish Nadal is more jolly and entertaining and not always very serious and focused about winning. I actually like friendly arrogance over unfriendly humility.

Nadal wouldn't do that because it would be a lie.

Is it only me but when The Choker "roars in affection" after winning a great point and "acts like a god" that I start cringing? I remember once when The Choker even ripped his shirt and still didn't get a code violation? Nadal has his "big fist-pump and a jump" but I don't find that cringing at all. I guess it all comes down to that I find The Choker the least sympathetic of the top players. And I guess I'm not the only one, or am I :D ? When I win a great point the first thing is of course to "celebrate" but I always always complement my partner, because would he have not produced those great shots the whole point would have been far less "fantastic".

Yes. I agree that Nadal is very energetic and intensely competitive. But I do not find him to be jovial or humorous with any body. I have never seen him joking or having fun with his opponents or any body else at any time.

No. It is not a lie. That is the absolute truth. There can never be any champion in any sport who is close to what Nadal is likely to achieve when he choses to end his career and his end is not going to come anytime soon. Honestly Federer and Djokovic are nothing compared to Nadal. I will be very happy if Nadal openly tells out that fact. As I said, I like people who are friendly and jovial though arrogant rather than people who are very humble, shy and diplomatic.

Also I read the below article which clearly states Nadal does not like animals.

Even in one interview, Nadal has stated that he does not like animals, especially dogs and that he doubts their intentions. Why does Nadal feel like that? I love animals very much and I find animals as very cute, innocent and enjoyable to watch. Even scientifically, it has been accepted that having pets is a medicine for depression. Why does Nadal feel the other way around? Why does Nadal feel that animals have bad intentions? I will be very happy if Nadal is friendly and compassionate towards animals also. In the above article, he was clearly not happy with the presence of that dog. What is the reason for his dislike towards animals? As far as I have seen, friendly, compassionate, jovial and jolly natured people love animals very much and Nadal clearly does not have good feelings about animals.

I personally do not like people who are humble and respectful towards me. I like people who are jovial and compassionate towards me. I like people who underestimate my ability in a friendly way rather than people who over estimate my ability. I will be honestly very happy if Nadal tells me that I am good for nothing with a friendly smile on his face but I will not like it if he treats me with respect and humility. I myself know very well that I am nothing compared to Nadal and I do not deserve his respect. But I wish he is merciful and compassionate towards myself and also animals. I wish Nadal stops thinking that animals have bad intentions and instead starts treating animals also like his friends. As I said, I do not like respect and humility. I like only compassion and understanding.

It's difficult to say but those sort of feelings usually go back to the very earliest days. I suspect he was a very nervous and shy kid and may have had an unpleasant experience with an aggressive dog at that time which has affected his opinion of them ever since. I recall Carlos Moya, a lifelong friend and mentor to Nadal (as well as his current coach) saying that he had to lock his pet labrador in another room whenever Rafa came to visit.

Some people are just not naturally attuned to animals and Nadal would seem to be one of them.

I don't like a lot of things. Some people are "afraid of dogs", even because of religion. Yes a dog can be a "dirty animal" according to some religions. I don't like wasps, bugs, snakes, sharks, scorpions does that make me an "animal hater"?

And also Nadal has many times told that he loves fishing very much. But fishing is also a type of hunting. Professional fishermen need to do that for their livelihood. Therefore I do not have any problem with them. But Nadal's case is totally different and he loves to do fishing for pastime. Why not Nadal be more compassionate towards those creatures? Nadal has said many times that he is very fond of kids. I feel that animals are also like kids. They are very cute and innocent.
