I would like to make an announcement...

We're in the same boat essentially. My family only used to watch Wimbledon so 2003 is when I first saw Federer, both he and Roddick caught my attention that tournament.

I loved cheering for Roddick as a young teen as well. Was fascinated with the big serve. :)

The test is how many remained Fed fans after the W 2008/AO 2009 losses and likewise after USO 2011. Those were the most painful ones and I know somebody who jumped ship after AO 2009. It's NOT about whether he's winning. Only if you still identified as a Fed fan when Nadal briefly ruled tennis in 2010 or Djokovic in 2011 are you a non bandwagoner fan. You should be able to take all the nonsense that the Vamos or Belgrade brigade will throw at you after a tough loss to either of Rafole and continue to bel19ve.

Woah! Say that 5 times fast!

Not really, because Federer was always leading the majors record and weeks at #1.
You're talking as if the front runner was an underdog, which he never was.

And what did Fed do to you ?
I already disliked him, but the finger wag incident was the straw that broke the camel's back. That's what made he realize he is arrogance personified on a tennis court.

And no, it wasn't because he beat Novak. Had he beaten Nadal and made the same gesture I would have felt the same way... And I don't particularly like Nads

I have always wondered what that finger wag meant.
What is your take ?

"Look at me, I am the greatest human being to ever grace the Earth. "

It seemed more like a "I'm not done yet" or "Don't count me out just yet" rather than I'm the greatest human being.

At least he doesn't do it after match like Novak and his "Love me. Love me." celebration ;)

As a kid , i used to think Federer was the founder or CEO of Tennis Sport , maybe bcoz of excessive Federer Marketing by Establishment & media .Then saw Djokovic in 2007 Montreal beating Fed in masters final , and then in US final getting beat by federer , became Novak fan instantly..
Its very difficult to hate any one among Big 4..

No, I am not. I will explain one more time. When a player who has been at the top starts to drop his level ever so slightly and a new guy comes along and starts beating him, it is very tempting to jump ship and I know people who did so at the time. On a personal level. I am not talking about 'appreciating' the other guys which I did and do anyway, but basically saying, "Screw Fed, I am going to be a fan of XYZ because he is the one who is winning'.

Heck, I remember somebody wrote an article viciously mocking Fed for appearing in some talk about mental strength along side Tiger Woods...just because he cried after losing the AO 2009 final. OK, so one time a guy breaks down after a hard loss and suddenly all his past achievements are negated? But that is kind of how things were at the time, the apex of the 'Fraud/weak era' theory. I haven't asked those people what do they think now, not planning to.

honestly fed has a lot of vocal supporters to the point of being obnoxious i will admit, but he also has some of the most vocal detractors, something this board fails to realize or acknowledge.

Tall poppy syndrome. Whenever somebody is talented and performs consistently at a level that is a cut above the rest, there are people wanting to pull him down.
