identifying a st. vincent Pro Staff

I did a bit of research and came up with the following criteria, some of which i may have incorrectly inferred.

no bumper guard
code on the bottom ending with q (possible chicago version too?)
the s on staff?
red primer under paint

reason i ask is i recently received an old pro staff from my uncle, purchased very early in the production run, that I am interested in selling. Lord knows I can't hit with it.

It does have the red primer (shown under one of the minor frame scratches), and came with no bumper. But I am clueless as far as what else to look for. For the record the 3 letter code is GRI

some photos are shown here

any help in identifying the model type would be greatly appreciated.

Also, how do prices vary between the models?

GRI is a Chicago code. You have the original bumperless Chicago model, which is a very nice racquet.

chicago... to me... plays just like the st vincent

Agreed. Chicago - very nice stick. IMO plays VERY similar to the St. V. More solid than the China version and a bit higher SW IMO.
Very nice frame to keep in your collection... I have one too.

Chicago and the bumperless SV both have LOWER swingweights than all other frames.

...that brings up an interesting'sideways' issue...what ARE the codes for some of the other 'locations' and time/eras ?? Does anyone actually have a list of the more common codes/sequences ?? "I'D" like one !! Thanks !

i know general trends

Chicago - has a G in the code and bumperless

St vincnent - has a Q in the code (sometimes looks like an O)

Taiwan - has an S in the code

China - who cares



Be careful of butcaps tho to identify,,., very easy to replace and scam... i have been burned

also as a side... two tests to make sure you know it is a st vincent:

1. red primer

2. bumperguard

if you have those two parameters met... you are assured it is a st vincent.

actually, come to think of it , any racquet with red primer is excellent
