Identifying the present distinct tennis seasons

Legend
Tennis has changed a lot over the last 15 years or so. The seasons (where one surface/conditions dominate) have been a big part of that change. I identify these distinct tennis seasons. (Note: the following doesn't mean that there aren't other surfaces/conditions played during those periods - but instead it speaks of the dominant surface/conditions).

January - March - Slow Hard Court - Notable Events - Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami

April-Early June - Clay Court Season - Notable Events - Monte Carlo, Rome, Madrid, Roland Garros

Mid-June - Mid July - Medium Paced Grass Court Season - Notable Events - Queens Club, Halle, Wimbledon

Late July-September - Medium Paced Hard Court - Notable Events - Canadian Open, Cincinatti, US Open

October - November - Indoor Medium Paced Hard Court - Notable Events - Shanghai, Paris, WTF

-----------------------

So in summary - Nearly 6 Months of Slow Court Tennis (1st 1/2 of the year) and then 5 Months of Medium Paced Tennis

Thoughts anyone?

I think you missed a few, like the Golden Swing and summer clay season, and the Australian hard court season.

If you think only slow and medium courts exist, that is a pretty even dispersion, 5 and 6 months. I think there are a few more distinctions to be made though.

As I mentioned, there are some exceptions to these 'seasons' but they describe the most common events of those periods.

Golden Swing?

Australian Hard Court season? I am only aware of the January Australian events on Slow Hard Court.

I think the Latin American events are collectively known as the golden swing. And there are 6 tournaments in Australia/NZ to start the season, I've heard it referred to as the "Australian summer season" or Australian HC season many times

The four tennis seasons -

Beer by the barrel

Champagne by the pot

Tea by the litre

Coffee by the gallon

I can't think of any other way to make watching anything other than the final set of the finals any less bearable...unless they showed more Men's Doubles.

Yes, the "Australian summer season" or more accurately 'Australasian Summery Season' you mention is part of the Jan-Mar Slow Hard Court season I mentioned.

The South/Central American clay courts (one of which has moved to hard court recently) aren't the major focus of the 1st 3 months of the year. The Slow hard courts are.
