If Andy Murray loses the 2012 U.S. Open final....

If Murray loses the 2012 U.S. Open final, he will have won 21 grand slam matches this year and not won a Grand Slam. This will be tie his record in 2011 for most grand slam matches won in a year without winning a Grand Slam in a year.

Interestingly enough, the previous record was held by his now coach, Ivan Lendl, with 20 grand slam matches won in 1988 and 1983 and did not win a Grand Slam that year.

For perspective, Pete Sampras (14 Grand Slam championships), only won 21 or more grand slam matches in a season twice, 1993 and 1994.

Would it not also be true to say that he would also become the first man in history to lose his first 5 slam finals?

Would love to see another Fed Murray final, I think it's a great match up to watch, wonderful contrast in styles, and with Murray's recent destruction of Federer, you've got to think it will at least go 4.

You really know how to brighten up our day with happy stats.

I will sleep well tonight with this remarkable possibility circling inside my head.

Let's just prey Murray doesn't read these forums?

For Murray's sake, and for his fans, Djkovic and Roger would need to lose before th SF/F for him to win his first GS.
Otherwise, even I, will feel sorry for him if gets to the finals, then loses.

0-5 in slam finals is a stand alone record. Haters gonna hate!

But he might not even reach the final or he might surprise us all and win, so whatever.
