Yes it is well established, the calendar year grand slam is the ultimate achievement in tennis, but if Djokovic wins Wimbledon 2017 that takes his streak to 5 consecutive slam wins, a CYGS only involves 4 consecutive slam wins, albeit in the same calendar year.
So, this is a question to all the reasonably and objectively minded members out there, does 5 consecutive slams exceed a CY grand slam?
IMO, it won't, because of the perception. The perception is winning all 4 in the one calendar year is the ultimate, even though winning 5 in succession is actually the better on court achievement. If Djok wins 2017 Wimbledon, some mention will be made of 5 slams in a row, but most of the focus will be on "Can he now win the USO?", "can he win the CYGS?".
Only time will tell how history will judge 5 consec slams if he wins Wimbledon but if you think about it winning 5 in a row is one better than winning 4 in a row.
