If Djoko wins Wimbledon 2017, has he surpassed the CYGS?

Yes it is well established, the calendar year grand slam is the ultimate achievement in tennis, but if Djokovic wins Wimbledon 2017 that takes his streak to 5 consecutive slam wins, a CYGS only involves 4 consecutive slam wins, albeit in the same calendar year.

So, this is a question to all the reasonably and objectively minded members out there, does 5 consecutive slams exceed a CY grand slam?

IMO, it won't, because of the perception. The perception is winning all 4 in the one calendar year is the ultimate, even though winning 5 in succession is actually the better on court achievement. If Djok wins 2017 Wimbledon, some mention will be made of 5 slams in a row, but most of the focus will be on "Can he now win the USO?", "can he win the CYGS?".

Only time will tell how history will judge 5 consec slams if he wins Wimbledon but if you think about it winning 5 in a row is one better than winning 4 in a row.

Probably? 5 in a row would be pretty ridiculous.

I opened same thread few days ago, but it was deleted, idk the reason.. Anyway, i think 5 is more than 4. I steel don't quite understand what kind of perception you must have to claim 4 is bigger than 5? Is it some kind of upside-down perception, or..?

Shouldn't we wait until we see what happens at this years Wimbledon? Anything can change in 1 year of tennis.

It's not necessarily my perception, what I'm suggesting is that the greater perception will be that 4 won in the one year, ie the CYGS, will be a greater achievement than 5 consec slams won across 2 calendar years.

I guess question here is.

What gets celebrated more?

Navrativlova's six straight slam wins or Graf's CYGS?
