Djokovic could very likely retire with just 8 or 9 slams tops. He is going to become a father soon and tennis daddies very rarely win slams. Roger only won 2 slams as a father, the most a father won since the mid 1980s... It is tough.... He will never be Tier 1. He will end up in the same Tier as Lendl, Agassi and Connors which is Tier 2.

Well, it is around 9 at night, and I have work in the morning, so it is understandable why im at home I guess...

And anyways I could of been on my phone, NOT at home

Please tell me you wrote "could of" ironically.

Otherwise, not a smart thing to write when correcting someone else's grammar.

So as I say Djokovic always beats nadal when they play there best.

The 2013 US Open final says otherwise. Nadal winning the third set of that match when under huge pressure from a Djokovic onslaught is the reason why he won the fourth set 6-1, and won the match with it.

Nadal is still ahead on the overall head-to-head by 22-19, leads 8-3 in their head-to-head in majors including winning the last 3, and has better career achievements. Djokovic only winning 1 of the last 8 majors is very poor for him in what is supposed to be the prime of his career. Djokovic currently holds none of the majors. The last time that happened to Nadal, he was going through a serious crisis of confidence and was going through an 11 month period where he didn't win a tournament. Yet the Djokovic fans seem very arrogant for a guy who holds none of the majors at the present time.

OK, let's say hypothetically that Nole wins, beating Nadal in the final, and that it ends up being Nadal's last Major. Do I think Nole would go on to be considered by most to be greater than Nadal? It could happen, but not on grounds of Majors won. It probably won't happen though.

Djokovic fans are the most humble on these boards.

Mustard is a troll, ignore him. You should probably ignore the whole Nadal fanbase.

If you want a fair opinion on Djokovic, ask Federer fans.

Don't you think this statement alone is highly arrogant?

What about those poor Murray fans? What about the Somdev Devvarman fans?

One thing I can say for sure is that Fed Fans will be ready to pound on Nadal fans when Djok does this unthinkable feat.

Nadal fans have been so brutal in their criticism of Roger I expect this will be the case.

Federer is a separate tier and a big gulf exists between Borg/Sampras/Nadal and him.

The gap is as sizeable as Murray and Hewitt's achievements put together

Federer shouldn't be tier 1. He already proved he is worthless against the only tier 1 in this era, Nadal.

Let's hope that Nadal wins then, and keeps them frustrated. It's always funny when that happens, and they seek to play down the competition, or even act like Djokovic is not a bad matchup style for Nadal, as one poster did after last year's US Open final.

Just because Nole isn't a dream match up doesn't make him a bad one. Stop trolling. I don't see you criticize Nadal fans when they hurl abuse at Roger, his wife and kids.

I don't condone anything like that, for goodness sake. I also didn't hurl abuse at anyone. I'm not a spokesperson for all Nadal fans, you know.

Mustard is the most fair objective Nadal poster, but I disagree about his statement that Djokovic fans are arrogant.

To be fair, they could be bitter Federer fans jumping on the Djokovic bandwagon whenever it comes to Djokovic vs. Nadal. It's not always easy to tell.

Yep, Djokovic purchased a plot of land on planet Tier 2 with his results last year :) he might as well build a nice house on it.

You make it sound like being tier 2 is something to be ashamed of. And it won't be a house but a mansion he'll be building instead. Djokovic is a great player!!

Why do you think we sound arrogant? Are you saying that we shouldn't be happy[happy, not arrogant- there's a difference] when he wins the WTF or Masters events? Remember that the slams aren't the only tournaments that get played.

Ignore them. Lets hope Nole wipes the smug grin off their faces on Sunday.

Nadal fans are constantly belittling other players. Especially those from previous generations.

One thing I think Djoko will pass Nadal on, though, is weeks at #1. He is starting to feel like "the real #1" again in 2014, but he has to back it up with wins at the slams. That is bound to happen, because Djoko won't keep losing every slam final he plays.

Happy is fine, but keep a sense of proportion. They are not majors. Djokovic is in the prime of his career, yet at the present time he has only won 1 of the last 8 majors. That should be a cause for concern for Djokovic fans and the optimism at his success elsewhere should be cautious optimism for him to win majors, yet I see people questioning if Nadal should even be the favourite for this French Open despite his record of having the 2 longest match winning streaks at the event. That gets up my nose.

Djoker is the late bloomer. Of course in the next few years he can continue to beat Rafa, if he can keep his level of playing. I just cannot see how Rafa's body can hold up for that long. He also got nothing more to prove in RG. He declined in Wimby, and HC is not even his favorite surface. I won't be surprise if Rafa hangs up his racket by 30.
Djokovic is actually an early bloomer, as he ascended to the top in 2007 at the age of 20.

It is a cause for concern but didn't it occur to you that maybe that's why we're extra happy when he wins big Masters tournaments given that he hasn't won a slam since 2013AO? Obviously him beating Nadal so many times in these events is just the icing on the cake for us- we ain't gonna be miserable about it!

You have the icing without the cake, Djokovic hasn't won a slam yet. That would be the cake, along with all the gravy.

But without the cake the icing that we have had has tasted pretty nice. 5 masters and the WTF in the past 12 months is nothing to be sniffed at. That's better than most players' entire career!!

I just thought after last year's US Open final that Nadal would get more respect for beating Djokovic after resisting a Djokovic onslaught in the second and third sets. He didn't get the respect that I was hoping for, to be honest. Once Djokovic had beaten him in Beijing and London, it was like 2011 in here, as if that mattered in comparison to the French Open and US Open. Some people were even saying that Djokovic was the real number 1 for 2013. Worse, the ITF gave Djokovic the player of the year award.

Djokovic lost some winnable slams in his prime, esp post AO 12. He won just 2/8 slams in 2012 and 2013, that's very poor compared to his 2011 and a fair chunk of those except RG 12 and Wim 12 were winnable for him.

Djokovic deserved the ITF award as he was by far the most consistent player in the slams in 2013. And be honest Mustard, if somehow Nole does beat Nadal on Sunday the last thing you'll be doing is giving him any credit for it because you'll be absolutely gutted, just like us Djokovic fans were after the US Open last year.

Ridiculous. Nadal won 2 majors, beating Djokovic in both. Djokovic won 1 major. Nadal was better in the majors in 2013.

I don't know how I'd react. One never does until it happens. I hope I never find out.

Djoker played like crap in last years US Open. He handed the slam to Nadal. Plus Nadal had a joke draw. We all know what the result would be if Djoker played his best. Maybe he was just tired.

Yeah but Nole was more consistent, earned more points overall so he deserved it.

Will you really be THAT disappointed if Nadal loses RG this year-the guy's already won it 8 times!! Deep down wouldn't you like to see a new champion for once?

Nadal had more majors, more masters series, more overall tournaments, won their most important matches of the year and was world number 1 at the end of the year. Case closed.

Of course I would be disappointed. Roland Garros has been Nadal's domain for years, the very heart of his clay empire. I hope Nadal gets his 9th French Open title this year.

No because they want Nadal to surpass Fed, even if its by racking up 13 French Opens. LOL

Yup. They've been pining for it since 2008 and the desperation worsened when Nadal won 3 in 2010. Nadal's path to 17 is heavily dependent on RG. Without RG, Nadal has just 5 slams. They know that if Nadal loses his clay throne, he'll finish 2nd in the slam race, maybe not even surpass Pete.

Monfed, the Federer fanatics are far more concerned about the major count than anybody else, because Nadal's head-to-head record against Federer in majors has gotten embarrassing for them at 9-2. I'm cool with Nadal not getting to 17 majors. I'm much more concerned about his French Open crown, which is, as I've said, the very heart of his clay empire.

The ITF award was just for the slams though, none of the other events you mention come into the equation. Out of interest do you want Nadal to win RG again just this year or forever?! Are you honestly telling me that you never want to see a new champion there while Nadal's still playing? Don't you think that will be kinda bad for the sport?

Whatever you're selling, I ain't buying chief.

If Nadal fans were content(which they're not), they wouldn't be praying and wetting their pants for Nadal to keep winning RG even after he holds the record. The only reason for Nadal to keep winning RG is to bring him closer to 17. Try as you might, you ain't fooling anyone. Like player like fan. I'm sure your'e gonna come up another ridiculous strawman argument since you have zero integrity when it comes to Nadal so please have at it.

He's also consistently defeated Nadal since his last painful losses to him, which pains a gloomy picture for Nadal come match time.

I'm sure you remember me thinking you were crazy for this last year, but now I actually agree completely. What Nadal is doing at RG is insane, and I hope it continues.
