If Federer wins US Open it will be his best season

He won't win, since his back is still troubling him a lot.

Just watch his practice sessions

Unfortunately, I agree. Not bending his back on serve, not bending down low on the return.

Could be that he's just being careful, or that it's still tender but on the mend. However, it seems unlikely that it will loosen up / get better over the course of seven best-of-five matches.

When Agassi played his final US Open at the same age, he had to have regular cortisone injections in his back ... if it gets anywhere near that bad for Fed, I don't see him carrying on playing.

Let's hope it's just a tweak.

I was so happy when they got owned in that final after making that decision. It was clearly just to try and neutralise Federer and it ended up backfiring beautifully.

It was a dumb decision from the French. Fed wasn't physically ready until the 2nd day so they already had 1 rubber in the bag. But playing on clay meant that the Swiss can still rely on Stanimal turning up (which he promptly showed up). They should have chosen fast indoor hard courts, much more likely that Stan bombs out in those matches (look at how he struggled in earlier DC matches against Lajovic, Kukushkin, Golubev)

Due to the fact he didn't lose a match in the one slam he didn't win due to not playing it would be a 100% record in slams for the season. Add in his other titles at Indian Wells, Miami and Halle and final appearance at Montreal, a US Open title would surely mean that he has had his most successful season at the age of 35/36. For this reason though together with his back problem I dont see him winning it. It would just be too an unreal an accomplishment so is unlikely to happen.
So I have a 100% record in slams this season too?

I don't know the French choosing clay would have helped keep Federer down. Federer is good enough any surface. Also Tsonga not telling Clemente he was injured from the beginning instead waited until later in the tie where they had to use Gasquet and Gasquet is a dead duck against Federer. The way the French played and the decisions made in that tie were odd.

Seriously? He's probably easily top 10 Open Era, let alone just the 2000s.

I put Federer's serve on the same kind of tier as the likes of Safin/Pim-pim's. Very good, compliments their games, but not at the top. There is a massive difference between a server like Roddick and Federer. There is a massive difference between Goran and Roddick. Federer might be top 10, but being 10 is nothing close to #1 in the serving department; IMO Karlovic and Goran are lightyears ahead.

Imagine him winning the USO and then basically shutting down his season except for the WTF, which he also wins and seals YE no.1.
Then he goes on a long break.
Skips everything- except the AO- till the clay arrives in 2018.
Wins Monte Carlo, Rome, and RG, beating Nadal in an epic 5-setter in the final.
Screams his head off, goes partly insane, and lives out the rest of his days as a new-age wellness guru in the Swiss mountains.

Just imagine Federer winning the USO and Nadal still ending the year as world number one...
