If Federer.......

Beats a moving well Nadal today and then beats Thiem in final (assuming thiem beats Mr Charisma today) does the Federer legend move up another notch as to my mind in those conditions (arguably the worse for Roger due to sapping heat and high bounce) suit Nadal and Thiem more than any players on tour and to beat them back to back at 37 would be astonishing. I will bow down if it comes to pass.

Federer: 5 IW, 3 Miami
Nadal : 3 IW, 0 Miami

It is a fairy tale that conditions favor Federer, who is a better player than Nadal on hard courts overall (both on fast and slow hard courts).

Have to disagree. Since Nadal peaked i believe Nadal has alot more Majors than Federer on hard court and masters 1000. Federer has not beat a truly peak great player at US Open. Agassi was past his prime djokovic was a teenager. If you really examine Federers outdoor hard court credentials they are not as good as they seem prima facie. Nadal has beaten GOAT contenders on hard courts multiple times.

1) Let's not get ahead of ourselves

2) Is it even that hot out this week? Roger's better off playing them in these conditions than slow night time anyway.

OK, lets say Nadal peaked in 2008, since many say Nadal's peak started in 2008. Nadal has won 4 HC slams, AO 2009, USO 2010, 2013 and 2017. Federer from 2008 onward has won USO 2008, AO 2010, 2017 and 2018...That is four HC slams also. So, Nadal does not have a lot more majors than Federer on hard court, in fact, they are dead even since 2008.

For masters, Nadal won Canada 2008, IW 2009, IW 2013, Canada 2013, Cincy 2013 and Canada 2017 - That is five. Federer during this period on has won Cincy 2009, Cincy 2010, Paris 2011, IW 2012, Cincy 2012, Cincy 2014, Shanghai 2014, Cincy 2015, IW 2017, Miami 2017, Shanghai 2017 - That is eleven, more than double what Nadal has won on HC.

So, Nadal even during his peak has overall not accomplished more than Federer on HC as far as big titles are concerned. He is only equal with in slams, half the amount of masters, and not really any need to mentioned WTF.

Just a slight correction. Nadal won Canada 2018 and has a total of 6 HC Master since 2008. :p

Burn.

I have to admit that I am impressed by your objectivity in general, and also by how patiently you handle these type of silly posts. I wish I would be this patient in life.

does the Federer legend move up another notch... the worse for Roger due to sapping heat

There has been utterly no "sapping heat" the entire fortnight. It's been unusually cool and downright cold sometimes at night. Today will be the hottest day of the tournament at 84 degrees, hardly "hot." And as for Fed's legend, winning another IW will do nothing for his legacy, which is already unassailable. When you have 20 slams and 310 weeks at #1, there's nothing left to prove. He's 37 years old, he shouldn't even be in the semis of a Masters 1000.

In the time period you're talking about (since 08ish, as Hitman said), Rafa has stronger major wins, but Federer definitely has better Masters wins. They're about even vs each other, but Roger's been far more successful against Djokovic on hard courts than Rafa has.

It won't exactly be the top line in his credentials, but having the most IW titles all-time would be another nice feather in his cap.

Sadly nonsense. Both Nadal and Djokovic have the same legacies so Federer is not unassailable. And federer has repeatedly struggled over 25c as he did in New York so please check your facts before posting.

No, it’s not a “fairy tale.” Federer is a once in a lifetime talent who succeeds despite conditions and aging. He plays much better when taking the ball earlier has more effect (court plays faster)

Federer versus Nadal, Djokovic, Murray at IW/Miami:

Miami: 2-2 vs. Nadal, 0-1 vs. Djoko
IW: 2-1 vs. Nadal, 0-3 vs. Djokovic, 0-1 vs. Murray,

Federer versus Nadal, Djokovic, Murray at Cincy/Dubai

Dubai: 0-1 vs. Nadal (won dominance ratio), 3-1 vs. Djoko, 1-1 vs. Murray
Cincy: 0-1 vs. Nadal (2013), 3-1 vs. Djokovic, 3-1 vs. Murray

10-6

Now in the finals of Masters 1000! A complete disgrace to the sport!
